Summary: Perhaps the greatest achievement of Mankind
Review: This movie is the best movie I've ever seen... Better than the first 2 Evil Deads in my opinion... Ash is the man, I can tell you that...

The skeletons are great special effects as are the deadites... Some of the other effects, sadly, aren't... But, I can forgive those because this movie is so great...

Any movie with such classic one-liners as "Hail to the King, Baby..." and "Gimme some sugar baby..." is great in my book

Summary: A cool film
Review: Army of Darkness is an awesome movie. I have never heard so much insane screaming in one film. If you enjoyed movies like, The Evil Dead, and, Dark Angel The Ascent, then you will like Army of Darkness.

Summary: Bruce Campbell is funnier than Jim Carrey!
Review: This is the funniest, and most original comedy of the 90's. Bruce Campbell has an amazing talent for cartoon-like facial expressions and this movie puts him in the same class as Jim Carrey and Jonathan Winters. This is pure escapism from start to finish with lots of wonderfully cornball one-liners, "That was just pillow talk baby". Although some women like this flick, it's safe to call this a guy movie, but what a guy movie! What's most impressive about the film is the refreshingly original style that Sam Raimi brings to the screen. What a thrill it must have been to work with talent like Campbell who should have become a mega-star after this came out. What a shame it flopped. Jim Carrey is also a great talent but this movie blows Pet Detective away without a doubt. If you like the flying creature that picks up the girl and flies away with her, it may interest you to know you can see it in person next time you visit Las Vegas. It's hanging in the doorway as you enter Planet Hollywood at Caesar's Palace. Bruce Campbell would be the perfect choice to star in a Superman parody if they ever made one. Watch this film and you'll see what I mean. There are times you get the feeling you are watching Clark Kent's long lost half-wit twin. (Hollywood Producers or Sam Raimi if you are reading this, please take note!) In the meantime, if you are looking for the ultimate drinking movie for the next time you get together with your buddies, look no further. The director's cut is awful however so beware. In that version they cut out half of the best one-liners and replaced the ending with something stupid. The real version contains a brilliantly funny ending in which a witch travels through time to a Sporting Goods Store. Classic! This movie will appeal to those who don't like horror movies (like myself). It's not a horror movie. And remember...clatau, nectu, cough! cough! Bow to the king baby!

Summary: Comic horror fest that won't dissapoint
Review: Army of Darkness is the third movie in the Evil Dead trilogy. It is about a guy named Ash (the wonderful Bruce Campbell) who gets sent back to ancient Damascus to fight the Army of the Dead and retrieve the necronomican. This is deffinately the funniest of the three films. I highly advise viewing.

Summary: Avoid the Horrible Director's Cut of this movie
Review: Army of Darkness is one of my favorite movies of all time! The movie effectively does horror/comedy because Bruce Campbell has incredible talent for physical humor.

Army of Darkness is a 5 star movie.

Fans of 'Army of Darkness' might want to check out 'Bride of Chucky.' Like Army of Darkness, that sequel stands outside its predecessors and delivers a good mix of black comedy.

But this DVD sucks.

(1) The GREAT original ending "Hail to the king baby!" is replaced by a LAME sequil begging ending for what might have become "Evil dead 4 -- Evil Dead in Space" This is NOT what we want to see. Moreover, there is no option to see the movie with the theathrical ending, or even to view the ending in a 'deleted scenes.'

(2) The DVD transfer is bad, and is noticably bad whenever scenes not from the theatrical version are included.

(3) Some of the extras (storyboards) are really nice though.

Buy the Regular edition and stay away from this one.

Summary: So bad it's good
Review: Army of Darkness is a bad movie. It's suppose to be. It's the greatest B-movie of all time. Everytime I watch this film I laugh so hard I usually fall over or something. I don't know which version to recomend. The Director's Cut has some extended scenes that are really funny, but the standard video has the alternate ending which is pretty funny too. Just get which ever you can afford, they're both good

Summary: I have a chainsaw and I have a pump-gun:So what do you want?
Review: After getting beamed into the middle ages, Ash, the main character, gets to know a sorcerer who is able to bring him back into his time. But there are many dangerous creatures waiting for him. Ash doesn't worry, cause he has THE CHAINSAW!

Summary: Gimmie Some Slapstick, Baby!
Review: "My name is Ash, and I am a slave" is typically how a dramatic film might start, a portent for the meditation on serious matters to come. Instead, this is the first line of "Army of Darkness", spoken by former S-Mart worker Ash who, after fighting dread spirits, lopping off his beloved girlfriend-turned-demon's head with a shovel, and being sucked into the past by a time portal, is now be being marched to his death in the Middle Ages. Poor guy!

Ash's delivery of the line, spoken in a resigned, bitter tone, is a hint of things to come. "Army of Darkness" is the third film in Sam Raimi's classic "Evil Dead" series. While the first film was played for pure scares, the second film's scarefest had a demented humor to it that carries through and becomes the dominant trait of this outing.

The film is more farce than anything else, a "Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" for the Mel Brooks crowd with great big helpings of the Three Stooges and the Marx Brothers thrown in for good measure. Despite the impressive and bedazzling camerawork and effects thrown together by Raimi and company, the film is truly carried by cult film icon Bruce Campbell, whose Ash has a high pain threshold exceeded only by his obtuseness. "Army of Darkness" has no end of screwball comedy, requiring a keen comic sense of timing and physical presence. Campbell delivers on all counts, which is why "Army of Darkness" is such a fan favorite today.

A caveat: I've found, in my experience, that people who like the original "Evil Dead" are not terribly keen on "Evil Dead II" and even less so on "Army of Darkness". This tends to be because the original film was a legitimate horror movie, whereas "Evil Dead II" was part-sequel, part-remake, and part-comedy with "Army of Darkness" as its successor in both spirit and story. So, for recommendations sake, if you are looking for a true horror film, skip over this and purchase the original "Evil Dead". If you are looking for a stylish film laced with comedy and horror (and fun all-around), check out "Army of Darkness" and its predecessor "Evil Dead II". Not for all tastes, but definitely the proverbial MUST SEE for all cult film enthusiasts.

Summary: One of the best director's cut
Review: ARMY OF DARKNESS is a classic in its own rights. This Limted edition Director's cut is rare and hard to find now, I found it at a Best Buy and it was in stock. By the way I own the VHS version. Th limited edition is the original movie before it was cut for US and International release, in other words this version of the movie as what Universal pictures and the MPAA had to watch bfore making decisions on the rating of the movie. The MPAA said it was "A rated R picutre" and Universal Said cut the movie movie by 15 minutes and put a happy ending. This version has the 15 of additional footage and the alternate ending and also includes 4 deleted scenes. My favorite ending is the Theatrical Version. This version is good but it is a collector's item. I Recommend this movie who like Horror/cult movies and collector's items.
