Rating: Summary: Pure Film Review: Few films in cinema's history can aspire to the title "pure film" in the same way as Hitchcock's great masterwork 'Psycho', in my opinion one of the seminal works of art of this century. So many essays have already been written, so much painstaking analysis already conducted, that it would be redundant to attempt another summary examination of this magnificent film. I would like, therefore, to point out just two elements that are absolutely vital to any genuine appreciation of Psycho's unique power to mesmerize, manipulate, and even move audiences. Firstly, a point which has been made numerable times but which cannot be overstated : it is absolutely impossible for anyone whose first viewing of this film is accompanied by prior awareness of its reputation and probably of all the plot twists as well, to get a true picture of the effect it had on its unsuspecting first audiences back in 1960. These were people, remember, who had never seen a toilet being flushed onscreen before and probably never expected to; who had never seen the major star being ruthlessly and unexpectedly disposed of 40 minutes into the movie; and whose last memories of Hitchcock's work were the gorgeous, technicoloured sophistication of 'Vertigo' and 'North by Northwest'. Little wonder then that for days afterwards, perfectly normal people (but then we all "go a little mad sometimes", don't we?) refused to step into their showers, among other things. The other thing that so impresses me about this film is simply this: for all the pseudo-intellectual critiques that 'Psycho', more than most other films seems to have generated, it is one of the most accessible pictures ever made. A viewer with absolutely no indepth interest in cinema as an art form, can walk into a hall, watch this film, and come out perfectly satisfied with its entertainment value, without ever feeling pressured to hold intellectual discussions about all the deeper issues/hidden meanings it contains. This, then, was why Hitchcock, a reticent man in interviews, so openly expressed his pride in this film - it was for others to (sadly, much too late) discover his worth as a true artist, but he himself thought of himself as an entertainer to the last. Of all his works, 'Psycho' is the one that most seamlessly amalgams these two contrasting aspects of his craft.
Rating: Summary: The definitive horror film Review: If you want the original crazy killer film, this one is it. Though it's in dull B&W, that doesn't matter. The spectacular performances, the horrifying music, the spooky atmosphere of the Bates Motel and the house, and the ever-classic shower scene really make for one of Hitchcock's best-best suspense films. And the way the film builds up to the horrid story of Norman Bates is also entertaining.
Rating: Summary: Psycho stinks. Review: Well, I can't state how much I feel this movie is too overrated and medicore at best. It isn't scary and it is not exciting or violent. The story is very retarded about a man that fulfiles his position as his dead mother and keeps her body in the basement. Ohhhh, how interesting, this is exactly the kind of movie I'd want to show to my intelligent teachers or friends. Yea right. There are no good effects, the acting, story, B and W color, and sets are lame and the let's find Marion sub plot is boring. No I am not one of those teenagers obsesed with blood or gore and FX, I apreciated the bloodless halloween and Rosemary's Baby (and non-horror films)with interest and admiration. People are always raving that Psycho paved the way for horror movies of the eightess but the truth is that Halloween ignited the formula and copy cats. There wasn't many horror movies in the 60's or 70's so how could Psycho cause this "formalic" version of horror movies. It couldn't because it wasn't formalic, it was just stupid. Anyhow, a story about killers were bound to come up forth with or without Psycho. And if you think the shower sequence was scary then i must ask you, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN????????

Rating: Summary: One of Hitchcock's greatest films Review: From the first time you see the original Psycho. You want to see over and over again. This master of filmaking will be enjoyed for generations of filmwatcher forever. A must see for student filmmakers.
Rating: Summary: PERFECT! Review: This is THE film. This is the film that takes its audience on a wild ride from start to finish. The set up is PERFECT! It starts out in a typical Hitchcock device: A woman in need of a new life steals $40,000 and escapes town. Along the way she encounters the police and a terrible storm. She finds a quiet hotel and meets a man(not only the best work of Tony Perkins, but one of the greatest, most convincing roles ever) who also needs to get away. The typical device is right there- a fugitive story. Then the unthinkable happens: the only person we have connected with is murdered. Who to sympathize for? Norman. The poor kid who is traped by his evil mother, who he also wants to protect. We even feel sorry for him when he has to clean up the mess his mother left behind. We fell right into Hitchcock's perfectly laid trap. This is one of the best directed films of all time, and my personal favorite. I would recommend this film to anyone-but to those of you that have seen it, please do NOT spoil the ending!
Rating: Summary: BELIEVE IT OR.... Review: Beleive it or not my "mother" and I watch this movie all the time! We watch a lot of movies together but we like to watch this together. I never thought much of it, but I now I realize how ironic it is! We recemend it highly!
Rating: Summary: A must for Phoenix nostalgia buffs. Review: The opening scenes show Phoenix as it was in 1960. This has all been torn down now. The scenes are like a moving real photo postcard collection. As for the rest of the movie, it is really a classic study in black and white, using shadows, angles and so on.
