Summary: Disappointing
Review: I always here good things about "Psycho", but when I saw it I was less than impressed. The screeching music gets old, FAST, and it is so slow moving that it is amazing to think anyone would (could) stay awake until the infamous "shower scene" (not scary at all, by the way). After the "shower scene" the film goes steadily downhill and ends too abruptly. Very overrated, and not recommended. The extra star is for Anthony Perkins' performance.

Summary: One Of The Best Movie Ever Made!
Review: Psycho is a classic and probably the best mystery/suspense/horror movie ever made! Anyone who would give this one or two stars probably only likes the repetitious unoriginal ultra violent and gory slasher flicks that are so popular these days and are filled with gore, decapitations, dismembered bodies, etc! Anthony Perkins an underrated actor was fantastic and utterly amazing as Norman Bates and is now one of my favorite actors! I very highly recommend this classic movie which I have on video and hope to get on DVD when I get a DVD player. This is the movie that started the rating system and to think the controversy about this movie wasn't so much about the violence but partly because of the shower scene but also because of Janet Leigh's character's scene at the beginning of the movie wearing a lacy bra and slip and that Seems very silly and unimportant these days!

Summary: Excellent thriller
Review: I've recently been on a bit of Hitchcock binge and I felt compelled to write a review. Psycho is not your ordinary Hitchcock movie. The formula is diffrent, forget the leading man and leading lady set up because their is not one. Most of his classics like Vertigo, North By Northwest, Notorious, and Rear Window have this set up. Change is good though as this movie is a classic. It's not only inspired countless slasher movies, but it is also stands great on it's own.
I don't really like Janet Leigh very much, but Anthony Perkins plays the part of Norman to perfection. I think only De Niro played a disturbed character better in Taxi Driver. The way he builds suspense is great. We get the McGruffin in the form of the police officer, who ends up being nothing. We then hit Norman and his creepy Odepius complex. If you have never seen or heard about Psycho before then you may believe this is another McGruffin. But the tension builds and you know this is for real. The twist is excellent. Better than Who is Kaiser Soze, Rosebud, or I see dead people. I would recommend this to anyone who likes a good thriller, and who doesn't?

Summary: One of my Top 5 films of all time
Review: Okay, what else can you say about Psycho that no one else has? Probably nothing. It's a brilliant movie that broke all the rules of storytelling, scared you silly, and shocked you with its ending. This DVD version is a great treatment of the film. Beautiful transfer, cool behind the scenes extras and featurettes, great commentary. A must have for your film collection, and Hitchcock's greatest.

Summary: Hitch at his best!
Review: Done on a low budget, using the crew from his TV show, and in black and white--people probably thought that Hitch was mad. Well, this is one of the all-time greats of the horror/suspense genre, and it still gives me the shivers, even after many, many viewings!

Joseph Stefano's script, based on Robert Bloch's novel, doesn't let up. Bernard Herrmann's music is nervous, edgy and driving, adding another dimension and reinforcing all of the nuances of the film. The print is excellent--crisp and sharp, and the sound is equally so.

The cast is excellent--especially Anthony Perkins as the nervous Norman Bates, who just happens to have a slight problem with his "mother" (who "isn't quite herself").

All of the extras on the DVD are worth the price--the documentary THE MAKING OF 'PSYCHO,'trailers, newsreel footage of the opening, posters, lobby cards, and, in an interesting comparison, the famous "shower scene" with and without music.

Watch it alone--if you dare!

Summary: The First Slasher Flick!
Review: I would say that "Psycho" is the first slasher film. It's exciting and thrilling. It's campy, too. I watched as Janet Leigh stole money, ran from the law, and then check into a motel. After chatting with the motel owner, she seems suspicious that something is wrong with him. She decides to give the money back after chatting him up. She takes a hot shower, and in the middle of her shower, the motel owner's mother kills her. Lovely. So Leigh's sister and boyfriend, Sam and Lila, get suspicious something is up. A detective drops by, and offers to help. He goes out to the motel, chats with the owner, calls Sam and Lila back, and then goes up to the owner's house, and the owner's (Bates we'll call him) mother runs to greet the detective with a big old knife, a slash down the face and a couple of stabs. Boy I sure am glad this isn't my mom. So of course, Sam and Lila get suspicious again, they travel to Bates' motel and check out Leigh's room. Lila decides to talk to Bates' mother, (oh no) and Sam keeps Bates busy. When Lila gets up to the house, checking in the rooms for the mother. She goes down the stairs, and sees Bates running up the house. While Lila was investigating, Bates clobbered Sam with a rock. He runs up the stairs, and Lila goes into the cellar, unknowing that Bates' mother is down there. Well she says hello to Mrs. Bates and Mrs. Bates turns out to be a skeleton, and then Norman shows up with a knife, and just in time Sam shows up and grabs Norman to prevent Lila from getting whacked. After that there is an explanation on why Norman thinks he is his mother, and then we hear Norman, in his mother's voice, talk about how he/she didn't do it. Then after saying things, his/her face changes into, well I won't tell you. This film was really good, and I loved it.

Summary: A true example of wonderful film making!
Review: Let me get this straight, I've read some reviews that people think Psycho is utterly dull, a disgrace to film making. Well, these people don't give a damn to great movies. I admit, to audiences now, it is not scary, but it sure is suspensful. For example, when Lila Crane is walking up the hill to the house, that is far more suspensful than any bomb or monster in any movie. Hitchcock knew how to make a shiver go down someones spine without any special effects. A true example of wonderful film making!

Summary: Hitchcock classic
Review: You never know where Hitchcock is going to lead you in this film. It starts out as a psychological drama about a woman driven to steal so that she and her boyfriend can get married. Then, the main character is ripped away, and the void left is filled by a shy young man who's never torn himself away from his demanding mother. Hitchcock's best film ever.
