Summary: THE BEST CLASSIC MONSTER COLLECTION YET!!!!!!!
Review: I think that this collection is probably one of the best I have ever seen. All the movies are in great remastered condition. This would be a good set of classic movies to own. You will be very happy with what you buy. P.S. Planet of the Apes RULE!!!

Summary: SUPERB CLASSIC MONSTER MIX
Review: I waffled back and forth on whether to get this. By the time I was ready to go for it, it was TOO LATE. It was no longer available for sale here. But then, wouldn't you know it, dumb luck paid off when I checked back and it was available AGAIN - and for only $120!!!! What's great about this set is the original poster artwork featured on the cover of each dvd case. Plus, the individual sepia-tone processed photographs of each monster featured on the cardboard slipcase is cool. Lots of nice special features (commentaries, et al.) It is a great collection. Unfortunately Universal saw the marketing possiblities years down the road after having green-lit "Van Helsing" (which I've yet to see, hearing how ATROCIOUS it is), so the only way you can have these films is individually in their current incarnation, which I suppose will suffice as long as all original 8 in this collection are released. HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!

Summary: The greatest movie box set ever
Review: I waited years for something like this on VHS and fortunately nothing ever came along because I would have bought. Instead we are treated to an excellent 8 disk set of some of the best films to come out of the horror genre. All 8 movies have a documentary and commentary along with trailers and a few other items. The transfers are as good as I have ever seen these films and the sound is great coming out of my stereo. All I can say is that this is a must have collection.

Summary: Wonderful
Review: I will never forget watching these movies late at night on WREG in Memphis when I was a young man. These movies are the best of the best, and this collection is worth every penny. One thing, beware the DVD cases, the center part where you snap the disc in has a tendency to break, and thus far, nearly all of mine have broken off. I must now find replacement cases.

Summary: 4 good movies, 3 great ones, and one bad one.
Review: I will start off talking about the movie I was let down by. It was "Phantom of the Opera". Big fans of opera music will injoy that one. Big horror fans like myself will find it lame. I hate opera music and this flim as alot more in it then is needed. The really old, classic, silent one is the one to see.
"Frankenstien", "Dracula", and "The Invisible Man" are my favorites out of this package and are some of my favorite horror movies of all time(along with "The Exorcist", "Evil Dead", "Jaws"), and are ture landmarks of the genre.
"Dracula" has not lost its chill over the years, and "The Invisible Man" and "Frankenstien" have not thier important meaning.

The other horror movies in this package are good, but I did not love them like I hoped I would.

Summary: Go For the Legacy Collections
Review: I'm surprised to see some fairly recent reviews (2004)praising this set. Folks, this is a high price to pay for eight movies, when you can get Universal's recently released "Legacy" series for about $20 a pop. Because the "Legacy" series crams an average of five movies onto each two-disk set, the picture quality isn't as rich as it could be. (Keep in mind, though that the Universal Monster Collection was released relatively early in DVD history, and I don't think the images were cleaned up all that much. I certainly found my old VHS copy of "The Mummy" far superior to the single-disk version I bought early on. The "Legacy" series improves the picture and sound, even though neither is perfect. Universal has released "Legacy" series for Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, The Invisible Man, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, and The Mummy. Each set features the original Universal movie, plus three or four sequels. The Frankenstein Legacy Collection, for instance, features all three Karloff outings, plus House of Frankenstein and Ghost of Frankenstein. The Mummy Legacy Collection features the Karloff original, plus Mummy's Hand, Ghost, Tomb and Curse. All for a great price. Check it out and save your money!

Summary: Wow, this is quite a set!
Review: If you check my other reviews on Amazon you will see I think collector's sets are generally a waste of money. Often they cost more than buying the DVD's individually, and always there are a number of dog titles in the set nobody really wants.
However Wow!!! This set is a real exception. Most of these titles are hard to find at all but the best video stores and when you do find them they seem to be selling for around thirty dollars each. I know because it took me months to find a good price on Bride of Frankenstein. For once I was happily surprised to see a set that has all great titles a monster fan would like to have and at a fantastic price that is a real bargain. What is more is these aren't some crummy public domain prints. These are high quality super clean sharp prints with full length commentaries and abundant supplemental photos and featurettes.
What an amazing collection! It satisfies all my criterea for what a good boxed set should be. All great titles, a great savings over buying individually, and the best quality versions of the film available.

Summary: Full Screen only?!
Review: If you're going to do the classic monster collection How about giving us the whole film instead of the center portion?

And How about Creature from the black lagoon in 3-D for kicks?

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: A bargain at this price.
Review: It is such fun to see the CLASSIC monster movies of my youth, they are all here, Frankenstein,Bride of Frankenstein, Dracula, The Wolf Man...

Some have aged better than others, and make sure you go into this with a bit of nostalgia as they look rather cheesy when compared with the movies of today.

A great collection, A great price.
