Review:
A half-human half-vampire named "Blade" ( Wesley Snipes) is a special hunter in the world that hunts down on vampires with the help of his mentor/guardian Whistler ( Kris Kirstofferson)as they help a young woman ( N'Bushe Wright)to destroy a vampiric kingpin named "Deacon Frost" ( Stephen Dorff) who is bent on taking over the human race.

This movie started the beginning of the Marvel comic inspired movies we have today and this is the one that brought faith that comics can be great movies. Although based on a Marvel comics character, this movie is a different approach on the vampire film genre with action genre put into it with great acting, nice special effects, non-stop battles and splatter galore.

The DVD is superb! contains a commentary by the cast-and-crew, isolated music score with commentary by the composer, Featurettes, Pencil to Post: Pencil Sketches through production designs, Cast-and-crew bios, DVD-Rom Content, Trailer and a intersting House of Erubus encyclopida that tells info about the 12 tribes of the ancient vampire ruling council from around the world.

Summary: still one of the best comic-book relted movies so far
Review: The film brings to the screen the story of Blade, a vampire hunter, himself a human-vampire hybrid in which he must prevent the resurrection the long forgotten vampire Blood God. It is a highly entertaining, action-packed adventure combining significant elements of horror.
Wesley Snipes, Kris Kristofferson, and the rest of the cast carry out their performances well, though the choice for lead actress was poor at best. Though she is a Halle Berry type (which is definitely a plus) this film does not seem to be her thing, especially when she does not present/show her "Halle Berry qualities." Moreover, she does overdo it with her character's fearless/tough attitude; it gets tiring after a while, not to mention totally unrealistic (she is supposed to be a doctor for crying out loud, not G.I. Jane!!!). Subsequently, she is not convincing in her role.
In addition, there are faults with the plot such as how did Frost manage to stage a coup d'etat, and a successful one at that, against the whole vampire Pureblood council, especially when he is supposed to be a half-breed???
Not to mention the ease with witch he plays around with Purebloods!
Furthermore, what was the point of the Bob Marley look-alike? To show that there are Jamaican vampires?
Aside from that, the concept, the setting, the special effects, the MUSIC, and the swordfights are all EXCELLENT! Blade is a movie guaranteed to provide an evening's entertainment.

Summary: The first 'Blade' is the good 'Blade'.
Review: I don't want to write a long review about how much I love this movie (hence the 5 stars), but I can EASILY recommend it to any horror/action thriller lover! I know many other people love it, I just can't get enough of that blood!

However, if you like this, then 'Blade II' might suffice, although it didn't QUITE meet my standards, don't get me wrong, I didn't think it sucked, but it was lacking something...

Review: I saw this movie yesterday on Christmas Eve, as far as the Blade series I think this movie is the best one in the series, the ratings and overviews from the critics are a fars, I do beleive that the critics dont know what the general public likes, it is there own view and they must live a very sheltered life, my hat of to Wesley Snipes on another great action flick.

Summary: Excellent movie
Review: This is one of my favorite films of all time. I'm a big vampire and action fan, and enjoyed this film very much. Wesley Snipes is a great actor and does a wonderful job. A Corpse In A Cage is incorrect though; Blade injects the serum only to control his thirst for blood, he does not inject it to walk in the daylight and reap the benefits of being human. Blade was born with all of the vampire strengths and none of their weaknesses, he already has the ability to walk in daylight, and has all the benefits of being human to begin with. Anyway, Blade is a great movie and should appeal to both horror and action fans. I highly recommend purchasing this DVD. Cheers!

Summary: First Marvel Movie
Review: For the first major motion picture of a Marvel Super Hero, the Comic book Enterprise chose Blade. Surprisingly, he is a very low key, lesser-known `anti-hero' who never even had his own comic book. Maybe that was the trick; use a hero that no one knew as a hero so the stigma of comic books wouldn't taint the popularity. Let them find out he was born from the comic books AFTER they see the movie and like it. Now, after several Marvel Character adaptations, including Spider-Man, Daredevil, Hulk, X-Men and the soon be released Elektra and Fantastic Four, Blade has pulled through well with two movies and a third one just released. He is the only character so far to get three movies. But soon that will change when Spider-Man and X-Men get their third installments.

As for Blade's first movie, it follows the basic good-guy-in-black, fight-monsters-with-a-monster scenario. In this case, the good guy/monster is Wesley Snipes, who was most likely born to play the part. He is a hybrid mutation of human and vampire, born to his nine-month pregnant mother who had just been bitten by a bloodsucker. His only common weakness with them being his thirst for human blood; this brings a certain humanity to his role, displaying desires in himself for which he hates most in the Vampires. It is never made clear what his true motivations are, or why he hates Vampires so much. All we know is he loves hating them, and seems to love to killing them even more. Although Snipes is an extremely competent actor, he doesn't delve much into the humanities and opts for the tough guy route most of the time.

For a comic book adaptation the movie is very violent, and the language is certainly nothing that would get past the comics code. But it is an extremely entertaining action horror flick, and Snipes plays the roll with gut wrenching grittiness. He doesn't seem to shy away from doing his own stunts and fight scenes either, displaying his athletic skills and martial arts prowess in almost every scene. Another performance to be noted is Stephen Dorff as Deacon Frost. He eats up the scenes with scrappy ambition. Frost represents a new order of Vampires who believe they should be out ruling society, instead of hiding in the shadows of it as the current generation does.

The finale, which was completely re-shot for creative purposes and to maintain the humanity of the villain, is energetic and exciting. The alternate ending can be found on the DVD, so you can see which is better in your own opinion.

Summary: Not As Good As They Say
Review: im quite fond on zombies and vampires and so on, but ive never liked what theyve done to these cinematic creatures in the last one or two decades. blade, being a newer vampire movie, didnt wet my whistle at the thought of it. yet when you combine any kind of monster/creature with good 'ol high-tech action, youve got something. still, this is the worst they could have done with this concept. blade is the story of a vampire who injects himself with some anti-vamp stuff so that he can walk in the daylight, resist human blood, and still reap the benefits of the undead. so, as the improved version of a vampire, he slays the less fortunate vampires that kill by nature and by need. with a head of vamps wanting to discover the secret to evolution for themselves (whihc blade holds), they attempt to fight back as blade wipes them out. ive seen this style of movie too many times. still, it works for a rental. one thing i was disapointed in was that there wanst much techno music in the score (as so many people promised). techno can go great with sci-fi action, but blade (at least the first one) doesnt have that. nonetheless, it has some nice action sequences that are worth a look at. but when it comes down to it, blade isnt much more than the average new vampire mockery.
