Review: Mondo Macabro releases this little seen, long lost piece of South of the border Surrealism boasting a great film transfer, good audio with subtitles and a handful of interesting extras. This release should appeal to fans of surrealist cinema and those who enjoyed the director's previous film released to DVD (also by Mondo Macabro) Alucarda. While there were aspects of Alucarda that I enjoyed, I feel that Mansion of Madness is the superior film. The "lunatics are running the asylum" concept gives Moctezuma a premise with which to let his imagination, and surrealist inclinations run wild. Technically, the film's cinematography is of a high caliber as are the performances from a very large cast. The locations are amazing, adding to the overall feel of decay (and yes) madness. Throughout its 116 minute running time the film does lag on occasion, however, there is enough going on throughout to hold the viewers interest, and the last 15 minutes are possibly the strongest in the film. Recommended.
