Summary: 1960s Mexican Cheapie With Some Truly Creepy Moments
Review: I love 1960s low-budget horror movies. Mexico put out some really great, cheesey movies, like The Brainiac and the Samson series. You have to be a certain kind of person to like these schlocky gems: either you love them or you hate them. I don't think there's an in-between!

This movie is one of my favorites in this south-of-the-border genre. It's the story of four people who witness a voodoo ceremony that they should not have seen. They are now the targets of an evil magician who commands some pretty creepy creatures. One of them is a hairy (but clothed), very tall zombie-like creature. The other creatures are...well, the doll people. This is not your average Mexican cheapie, solely because of the doll people. They are truly frightening. They are small (either midget or children actors) with mask-like doll faces who are sent as gifts to their victims. Then, at night, in silence, they kill. They wear suits and never speak a word. Their mask-like faces show no emotion or expression. One doll (who looks a little like a young Elvis Costello!) is given to a little girl who takes it to bed with her. After she falls asleep, the doll slowly steals out of the bed and removes a very long pin from it's clothes. It silently stalks through the dark house and sneaks up on it's unsuspecting victim, stabbing him in the neck with the pin. The effect of these little monsters is truly unsettling.

There's a lot of chit-chat in the begining of the movie which will put you to sleep. You can watch a few minutes of it to get the drift of what's going on, then fast-forward to some action. The dubbing is pretty funny, as you can probably predict.

If you can get through the slow parts, I think you will enjoy this trip to the darker side of sunny Mexico, providing you like this kind of thing. Just don't turn your back on any dolls!
