Summary: OK ADAPTION OF "I AM LEGEND"
Review: lAST MAN On Earth is an adaption of Richard Mathesons classic novel "I am Legend". Vinny Price stars as doctor Robert Morgan, literally the last man on Earth populated by pseudo plague-born vampires/zombies.

The movie is bleak from the start. The shots of an unkept city, lifeless, and littered with corpses will knock your shoes off. So be careful where you walk. And don't go out after sunset. Never. Price is wonderful in playing a disheveled man on the brink of insanity. His haggard look and stooped posture goes miles in conveying his deep sense of loss. Matheson's novel, the original source, was set in Los Angeles. But this film was lensed in Italy to save on costs.

I think the move across the pond was beneficial in creating its creepy atmosphere. The locations chosen reveal streets, cemeteries, and buildings of worship that all look a bit strange to the American eye. Even the trees and cars come across as being from another land. Not the United States. But a world where the dead could walk alongside the living. The undead shuffle along like patrons in an after-hours club, but they are still ghostly and menacing. They lust, like vampires, after the blood of Price. He in turn spends long hours and endless days wielding a mallet and stake like Barry Bonds. Only later will Price discover the secret behind the plague and his ultimate fate. He cheated science but in the end he payed the final price.

If truth be told..the film more resembles a zombie flick than a vampire flick. And, in fact, George Romero stated that Night of the Living Dead was inspired by I am legend.

The movie was remade in the Early 70's as The Omega Man with Charlton Heston in the Price role. This film deviated a great deal from the novel.

Not a great film, but not bad and certainly one a lot of people don't know about.

Summary: Interesting film -- bad transfer
Review: This is just a cut above Alpha's terrible rendering of "Terror Creatures from the Grave" -- it looks like a poor copy from video and the sound is pretty bad. I would save your money for when a reputable company comes out with a version.

Summary: Very Good, Underrated Vincent Price Gem
Review: This movie was actually filmed in Italy. It is the film upon which the later, more popular, Omega Man is based. It is a well-directed horror/sci-fi movie with great atmosphere and a real human aspect to the character that draws you in. Vincent Price plays a scientist who has a rare blood condition that allows him to survive a vampire-like virus that wipes out the world. He spends his days hunting down those who are infected(like vampire/zombie hybrids). At night, he tries to sleep while zombie hordes attack the outside of his boarded-up home. The movie was made in 1964, so it deserves a place on the old shelf
with other "Golden Age" Italian horror films and American classics also produced during this period.
