Rating: Summary: Secret Window Review: This was a pretty good movie, though I was expecting it to be better. The first hour and a half or so, it was very good and suspenseful, but in the last 20 minutes, it just gets really weird and the style of the movie seems to change all of a sudden. The ending reminded me of an ending to another movie that came out a few months ago but I won't mention what it is in case I give away the ending for this movie.Overall, this was a pretty good thriller, but it gets pretty strange towards the end.
Rating: Summary: Here's an idea .... Review: For those of you who haven't seen this movie yet, go watch Dreamcatcher first. Then after you see Secret Window, you'll think you've just watched Casablanca. That's not to say Secret Window is great, it's to say that Dreamcatcher is so bad I'd rather stick a hot iron on my face than watch it again. However, this is not intended to be a negative review of Dreamcatcher, so I'll get on with it. Secret Window is just about identical to the Stephen King story, for which it is based, in Four Past Midnight. I thought the story was good and I think the movie is equally good. The cast was great. Other reviewers go on about Depp, which is fine, he did a nice job as Mort Rainey, a writer who has secluded himself in his lake home since he found his wife cheating on him with a real meathead named Ted. But the rest of the cast made the movie too. John Turturro was great as the villain John Shooter. Charles S. Dutton was equally good as the detective but with not as strong a part in the movie as Turturro, and Maria Bello was hot. If you've read the story, you pretty much know how the movie is going to be, but the ending was done somewhat different, which I thought was actually better than the one in the story. If you haven't read the story, you can expect to see how an affair and a plagiarism charge tear Mort Rainey's life apart when a mysterious man shows up to his door one day accussing him of stealing a story he'd written called Sowing Season. When Mort realizes the story is indeed identical save the ending, he attempts to get an original copy of his story called Secret Window to prove to Shooter he wrote his story earlier than the date Shooter claims to have written his. During this, tragedy happens to Mort; his dog is killed and his house in the city where his yet to be divorced wife lives, ironically where one of the only original copies of Secret Window is, is burned down just to name a couple. I recommend checking the movie out for the suspense and the acting.
Rating: Summary: I read the story first. . . Review: Similar to many people, I read "Secret Window, Secret Garden" by Stephen King before seeing the movie.First let me say that Johnny Depp is brilliant; he saved this movie. His performance was flawless. . .with what he was given. I don't want to give away the ending to the book, but agian, this movie shows the self-importance of film makers to take liberty with a story that is not theirs. It is ironic how John Shooter goes on and on about Mort Rainey ruining his ending, because I feel the same way about this movie. The ending of the book was completely different, and much better, as far as I am concerned. The movie is decent, it will keep you entertained, but if you want to be truly thrilled, read the story, found in Stephen King's "Four Past Midnight" instead.
Rating: Summary: Secret Window was a disappointment Review: I was disappointed. It was too predictable toward the end. Johnny Depp was good. But the show had violence that wasn't necessary and wasn't really scary. Too predictable.
Rating: Summary: Nothing Can Ruin The Suspence of This Movie! Review: When I went to see the film The Secret Window I all ready knew how it would end (thanks to someone who, in their online reveiw, wrote out the ending of the movie without writing SPOILER at the top...i mean, really, is it so much to ask that you at least warn me befor giving away the ending???) The point I am trying to make about this movie is that it EVEN THOUGH I KNEW THE ENDING, there were so many exciting twists and turns that I still found the movie both highly entertaining and suspenceful. Wich, I think, goes to show you how great the movie is.
Rating: Summary: Decent but not Johnny Depp's best. Review: Fine, and somewhat scary film that has a another good performance from Johnny Depp but is very predicable in certain scenes, and the ending is much to be deserved. If you see it, see it for Depp's performance but I suggest you wait for video instead.
Rating: Summary: Not a horror movie, psych. drama with a twist Review: Not being a horror/slasher movie fan, I was hesitant to see this movie. I admire Johnny Depp's acting so I decided to see the movie. I was pleasantly surprised. This is not a horror movie, it's a psychological study. Depp's performance was wonderful, easing the seriousness of the script with his brand of humor. Unlike other reviews I've read, I was surprised at the ending, not what I was expecting.
Rating: Summary: Suprisingly Mediocre Movie which Had Potential Review: Perhaps my expectations were to high as Johnny Depp is one of my favorite actors. This movie started out with a great premise and kept you interested... It seemed a bit slow at times, but you were waiting for the "thriller moment" -- when it came, it was so uninspired and bland that I walked out of the movie wondering why I had paid matinee price to watch this movie. The ending was terrible, the plot was slow but it had potential, and it just could have been so much more than it was. I recommend this as rental when its no longer a new release, or watch it on TV.
Rating: Summary: This film deserves 5 stars Review: I watch movies all the time. I've been watching and studying them for years. People these days just can't seem to make good films like the good old days. But this is a good film. One of the best new movies I've seen in a long time. It kept me on the edge of my seat and the ending was great. But the whole movie was great. There probably wouldn't be a Secret Window if it wasn't for Johnny Depp. He is the perfect guy for this film and I can't imagine any other actor taking his role. Overall, this was a good, entertaining film and was very thrilling and suspensful. If you want to go out and see a good movie, go and see this.
Rating: Summary: A Review: I really enjoyed Secret Window; it was extremely entertaining. The suspense was just right, it even added some humor from Johnny Depp into the mix, which will always make a movie great. The viewer is thrown head-first into the plot, so you can really get into the movie, and the ending has an interesting twist. I would recommend this movie to all.
