Summary: A for Effort, D for results
Review: After eagerly waiting for this dvd to become available I was all set for some serious delirium and gore. What I got was tedium and bore. There's some serious sound problems with this shot on digital video production. The characters sound like they are talking through hollow tubes or something. Maybe the sound problems wouldn't be too noticable except that your eyes and ears start to wander after about 20 minutes and you start to spot some of the technical blunders because you've given up on the story. As a gore film you can plainly spot all the amateur theatrical effects so nothing comes off as believeable. This would make a commendable school project film but it barely rates as a marketable professional effort. There's no nudity or anything objectionable, except for the story.

Summary: SHORT CUT ROAD- 4 STARS FOR GORE!
Review: First off, let me say this from another independent filmmaker's POV, I enjoyed Short Cut Road, and for being Marc Selz's first film, I think he did pretty good! I'm a fan of horror films myself, so I liked it from the start, because watching it, and seeing some behind the scenes footage reminded me of my friends and I making small films when I was younger. For being shot on MiniDV too I thought it looked quite good.

Lastly, for a low budget film, limited filming space, and being Marc's first film, I think Short Cut Road had alot to offer. If you're a true horror/movie fan, you will appreciate Short Cut Road!

Thank you.

Summary: There's no short cut to good direction
Review: I expected a nice little terror film and instead got a high-school quality let's-make-a-movie exercise in mediocre acting and stilted direction. The story about revenge and unwitting teenagers is obvious after the first 10 minutes and all you have to do after that is sit around and wait for someone to explain why the revenge killings are taking place. To make it worse, the unknown actor playing the villain actually tells you why it is taking place with a long boring verbal explanation. The cast is indistinguishable. Maybe they could have been better but the direction is very flat. The dialog sounds like someone wrote a script and the actors just read from it in front of the camera. On the plus side of the coin, there seems to be a lot of care taken into making this film but that actually just makes the final disappointment all that more disappointing. For a film from Sub Rosa you would expect a lot more exploitive fare. For a film from One Shot Productions you would expect a lot more excitement and frenzied obsessions. From the credited list of nobodies we got just what we should have expected.

Summary: Holy crap!
Review: I give this movie one star because there's no "zero stars" option. It looks as if they took a handicam and shot an after-school project. It blows my mind that this thing got an actual release with the sub-par acting, god-awful dialogue, and below average editing. Not a bad movie per se, if you're just out of high school and looking for something to do in your spare time. But an actual DVD release? Holy crap! Emphasis on crap. Save yourselves and avoid this turkey like the plague!

Summary: Why?
Review: I maybe coming off a little strong...But I have been in the film business for 15 years now. I'm an Independent filmmaker and movies like this just give us good filmmakers a bad rap! First... I give anyone credit for going out there and making a film. The one star I gave this film is that 1 credit. I was at the premiere for this film. The place was packed! Some good P.R I guess. But this home made movie is just that! HOMEMADE! For friends and family....thats as far as it should have gone!Has anyone heard about lighting, Audio, Good Camera Work...Good Story? Come on people wake up! Everyone thinks they are Film Directors and can just make a movie! But wait...This dvd or film is availabe to buy online and in stores....It must be good! I was expecting at least some good commentary. Nope didnt happen! Sounds like they plugged a mic into a camera and recorded the commentary. The menus were very bad! And the quality of this dvd is NOT there! Very dissaponted! But wait....this movie was picked up and distributed by a place called SUB ROSA STUDIOS. Who are they? Oh wait. They distribute B MOVIES. This is not a B Movie! And on top of that SUB ROSA STUDIOS has their own preview trailers on this dvd of other films they release. Its funny all the trailers star all the same actors from a company called SUB ROSA PRODUCTIONS. Has anyone looked into this so called company? What are these retail stores thinking? Do they know what they are buying? If you want to make a film. Learn first how to do it the right way and give the audience something they will never forget! I'm very disapointed to see Amazon and these other major chains selling this in stores. Also for all the people that are going to post a bad review on this film, just be AWARE that you might recieve an email from the director asking you why you didnt like his film!

Summary: Even professionals start off as amateurs
Review: I see a few very harsh reviews of Short Cut Road and I remember what my mom used to tell me about not throwing stones. So I won't. This isn't a good film by any stretch of the imagination and having the director's friends write raving reviews only looks pathetic but that doesn't mean that this below-average production doesn't have its good points. It does show that anyone can make a movie even with no directorial talent, no decent actors and no original story to tell. It's kind of like the old Andy Hardy movies when someone says, "Let's put on a show." It's like this director said the same thing, saved up 500 bucks and starting aiming his camera at his friends and eventually some kind hearted distributor got him a dvd release. What it goes to show is that anybody out there can still make a movie. All we customers ask is that the next person who tries it is someone with a little more talent. For learning purposes only (as in "what not to do"), watch Short Cut Road if you get the chance. But don't waste any money buying it.

Review: I was very impressed with the quality of the movie. I give the Director, Marc Selz, alot of credit for making this movie. People do not realize the time, effort and support that it takes to make a movie. I hope to see more movies from this Director. Hollywood, Watch out!!!!!!!!!!!!
