Rating: Summary: 3.5 Stars. Good horror movie. Review: This horror movie does its job with minimal gore. The biggest complaint with the film is in the way the male bonding amongst the three brothers takes place. It was almost as if it was written for three gay room-mates rather than three normal brothers.
The scares are not really scary, but it is effective enough of a film...even if the director's sexual agenda is poorly disguised like a hapless clown.
Rent it
Rating: Summary: Interesting Horror Film Review: This is a obscure little film directed by Victor Salva, the guy who directed Jeepers Creepers. Its about a young kid named Casey whos terrified of clowns. His 2 older brothers drag him to a circus, that same night 3 mental patients escape from the mental hospital and go to the circus. Then things get creepy- the clowns follow them home and all sorts of wierd stuff happens. This film is somewhat interesting and had potential but it does get boring after awhile. You will want to keep watching to see what happens to the boys though. It has some creepiness and thrills to it but i dont think its one of the best horror films out there. I think horror film lovers should definetly see it once though, then decide if you want to buy.
Rating: Summary: Of Blood and Makeup Review: This is by far the scariest killer clown movie I've ever seen. It bests IT in almost every way, which was actually a monster movie when you think about it. There are some of the most memorable scares in this movie of the psychotic clowns sneaking around behind the poor unfortunates in the dark. Like a memorable scene in the attic where one of the boys turns on the light to which it crackles and sputters in short bursts while a clown moves quickly across the room before it comes on. But when it comes to the action it's somewhat clunky and unrealistic. Victor Salva had some trouble with the action in Jeepers Creepers as well (the shootout that should have been at the end). In retrospect it's hard to believe this was a TV movie. Perhaps that may be another factor of why they didn't splash alot of blood around. But even more surprising about this film were the certain deviencies the director committed with the 12-year-old star. It somewhat shows if you look for it, but what grabbed me by the heart were the clowns moving about in the dark. It really is the epitomy of all scary clown movies, and is a real pleasure to own after being out of print for years. So if your one of those people who find clowns unsettling or terrifying then this movie will scare you to death.
Rating: Summary: CHEEZ-O IS THE SCARIEST CLOWN EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: this is one of my top 10 favorite horror movies ever!!! i can't believe that i finaly found it on dvd, this flick is HARD TO FIND!!! i also can't believe how unknown & underrated this GREAT horror movie is. this scary movie is glued together by a genuine & simple display of FEAR!!!! director VICTOR SALVA captures this genuine sense of fear in just about every other scene & he does it by simpley keeping it very REAL! i mean REALISTIC in the sense of tapping into REAL CHILDHOOD FEARS such as (monsters under your bed, monsters in your closet & feeling like somthing is right behind you & yes the fear of clowns) these are true childhood fears! although the monsters under the bed & in the closet ,clowns,& the nothing monster following you threw the dark may not be so real or true, what is REAL is the common FEAR that creates them.this is what makes VICTOR SALVA'S "CLOWNHOUSE" a true & honest horror MASTERPIECE!!!YOU DON'T NEED ALOT OF BLOOD OR ACTION, ALL YOU NEED IS TO KNOW WHAT !!SCARES!! PEOPLE!!!!!!!!! "CLOWNHOUSE" should be just as big, groundbreaking & remembered like "HALLOWEEN" "TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE" & "PSYCHO" as true horror blueprints(aka the way its supposed to be done) but its not & thats a shame!! im sick & tired of hearing about VICTOR SALVA'S personal problems, it does nothing but make the dark cloud looming over this movie that much bigger , & this movie is too damn GOOD to be ignored like that. im a HORROR fan & i believe its a shame that such a superb horror movie is so hard to find because of a mental illness that the director has !! THIS WILL NEVER STOP ME FROM ENJOYING THE SCARIEST CLOWN MOVIE EVER!!!!!. p.s CHEEZO makes PENNYWIZE look like a walk in the park!! PENNYWIZE looks like a scary clown in your nightmares BUT!! CHEEZO looks like a sick clown that would stalk u in real life!. reality is scarier than fantasy!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Very Scary Flick Review: This movie gives me the creeps. I have to admit, that as a man in his 30's, a high school and college jock - I don't like clowns. But....this thing is well acted, and well done. It's really quite scary, especially if you can relate to the characters, which I could. Nah, it's not great cinema - just scary stuff.
Rating: Summary: I love it! It creeps me out Review: This movie is so strange and creepy. The killer clowns are escape mental patients! YIKES! This is the urban legend you always heard, or never heard. It beats the hell out of modern day "horror" films. I was so scared for Casey, the main character, when I fisrt saw this movie. This is a must have.

Rating: Summary: Don't spend your weeks salary for this DVD aint worth it! Review: WARNING NOT WORTH THE HIGH PRICE. Totally WACK movie!!!! Boy I am really, really glad that I didn't buy this movie from anyone on Ebay for $200.00 on DVD or even here on Amazon where the price is even higher in the $300.00 range...I'd be extremely mad! I got this from a "moms and pops" style online store "Asylum of Oblivion" for under $20 beans on DVD...First of all there is NOTHING scarey about this movie except the acting. Everyone sounded like they were on stage for a school play and trying hard to take their roles seriously. The movie only goes down as being a classic because of the fact that Victor Salvo molested the young star (Casey) in real life in which he was tried for and convicted in the late 80s and the other fact that the latest DVD release of the movie from this past summer (August 2003 release) was pulled because of the Directors molestation history behind the movie; therefore whatever DVD copies that happened to be released in this time that anyone picked up was considered limited release and if you got it in time you're lucky. Now we've got cornballs paying a weeks salary (in a bad economic recession)for a garbage movie such as this one because it is as hard to find as "Gleaming the cube" on DVD I was NOT scared at all, no suspense because you already know what's going to happen before it happens. The horror music sounded like someone using that old Casio SK-1 from the 80s. Granted this was an independent release and is considered a "B" movie so you can't criticize it much because it was not really intended to be something like a Stephen King horror movie...the TV mini series "It" was scarey...this was TAME. The clowns were terrorizing the kids for no apparent reason, no motive, nothing. They never spoke or utter one word through the whole movie and 90% of the movie all they do is hide in the corners of the house "peeping in and out" making the kids wonder to themselves or each other "did you see that?" "Am I dreaming?" Casey's fear of clowns was understanding and believable to a point with him even peeing on himself and wetting the bed from nightmares about his fear of clowns. I was hoping the movie would be more and to top it it is only like 80 minutes. You can't rent this movie (in which I would've recommended you do first to see if it's worth buying with your weeks salary) and ALL online DVD stores minus Ebay and here on Amazon says it's out of stock or on hold until 2008...it's not that serious! If you want to see a good movie about kids being terrorized on a long weekend when their parents are out of town buy "The GATE" with Stephen Dorff. Take your 200 bucks and buy some DVD box sets or 20 of your favorite DVD movies (they probably work out even cheaper)
Rating: Summary: Not as good as Stephen King's IT but much creepier Review: Whether or not you don't like clowns, this movie will deff. creep you out. What makes clownhouse extremely creepy is how the clowns don't talk, they sorta just stare and do retarded facial expressions. What really gives the movie in a eerie feeling, from the start of the movie you can tell the director, (Victor Salva) is a sick weirdo. The youngest child, Casey, who has the fear of clowns was molested by the director. Right from the start you can see how the director captures that weird feeling when he films a nude shot from the youngest child, and how he films the other brothers in their tighty whities. Besides the director's sick problems, the music and suspense is pretty cool itself. Stehpen King's "IT" is also creepy, but penny wise played by tim curry talks and makes the movie somewhat funny. Clownhouse delivers a sick twisted movie...This is deff. an underated movie, also very hard to get nowadays...gee i wonder why??!! this is deff. worth buying...if u can get ur hands on it.
