Rating: Summary: Good first movie Review: Dark Harvest was well done for a first movie. Yes there were several scenes that could be picked apart as some of the other raters have done. I felt that there should have been more of a bridge between some scenes and more time spent with makeup such as Maggie's mouth. The special effects of the scarecrow being torn in half I thought was outstanding. One must remember that this is a low budget movie. That taken into account I thoroughly enjoyed it. I look forward to the next movie and seeing what the actors do in future films.
Rating: Summary: Wow this movie is bad Review: Don't see this crappy SCIFI pictures ripoff of Signs. It's really bad. PS: This movie claims that it stars one of the Baldwin brothers (I forget which one). He's in it for 3 to 5 minutes in the begining and gets fried. Man, is this movie desperate for viewers.
Rating: Summary: Not even worth a rental Review: Funny how the only people giving this movie decent ratings are from Virginia (where the film company is located) or West Virginia (where the film is set); you think they're insiders trying to boost the rating? Any self-respecting UNBIASED viewer can tell that this movie is junk within the first 3 minutes. The only things that made me watch it were the cover art, the fact that it was distributed by Lions Gate (I mistakingly thought this assured a level of quality, but it's actually made by a smaller company from Richmond, VA), and the fact that it seemed to be filmed on film, not video. Of course, none of this helps the horrible high school play acting, the terrible dialogue, the cheesy FX/make-up, and the utter lack of suspense or fright.
Rating: Summary: same folks that brought you Blair Witch Review: I figured you couldn't go wrong since the box art looked professional and Artisan releases some entertaining movies. This is about as bad as it gets, folks!! D grade acting with a solid F for writing and special effects. No thrills to be found here other than from the additional trailers on the disc.
Rating: Summary: Great cheesy fun Review: I found this movie at our local Best Buy and since it was shot fairly locally to me, I just had to have it. I have to say, I wasn't really disappointed at all. Sure, its cheesy and fairly cheaply made, but knowing it was a local production, I wasn't expecting a Lucas production! The acting was decent, the locales great and the script wasn't bad for the most part. The "special effects" weren't high caliber but there were a few "jumpy" moments in it that were enough to satisfy me. I think with some experience these folks could really make a theater-release quality film and I don't feel like I wasted my money on the purchase at all.
Rating: Summary: SIGNS OF THE TIMES Review: I have to admit that I enjoyed this much more than the bigger-budgeted SIGNS. At least SILENT WARNINGS remains coherent, and its cast of relative unknowns do pretty good. Name stars Stephen Baldwin and Billy Zane have little screen time; Baldwin as usual makes the best of it, and Zane as usual stinks. I don't know how he's had a career.
Anyway, the special effects are fine for a low budget movie; the director, Christian McIntire, manages to create an eerie and suspenseful mood, with some genuinely scary moments.
Overall, a fairly entertaining and diverting spooker.
Rating: Summary: HILARIOUS! Review: I loved this movie, but only because it was so bad that it was funny. I wouldn't buy it to save my life, but my friends and I rented it one night because we wanted a really bad film to make fun of, and this one didn't disappoint! Terrible actors, even worse dialogue, generic Hollywood slasher plot. However, the funniest part about this film is at the beginning, the subtitle on the screen identifies the location as "West Virgina." That's right. "VirGINA." Not "VirGINIA." My friends and I howled about that the whole time. We knew we were in for a great laugh, and we were indeed. The only good part of this entire movie is the completely unnecessary skinny dipping scene. The rest is sheer garbage, and it's great.
Rating: Summary: Warning: Do not insert into your DVD player Review: Knowing from previous experiences that Stephen Baldwin is most likely the worst actor in the world, the guy has like one facial expression through an entire movie, we decided in a hurry to rent 'Warnings' (seems like that's its title here in Europe (...) After five minutes approx. the movie turns into the biggest movie rip-off I've ever seen, and we're talking 'Signs' of course. I didn't like 'Signs' that much when I saw it. The aliens, being computer graphics and all, ruined the movie totally. With that in mind 'Warnings' is ten times worse - at least! The rip-off part aside, this movie had potential, but I guess they dug their own grave with those CG-aliens (the dolls looked even worse) and the, at times, really bad acting. Unbelievable! Billy Zane is the real star in this movie, for what it's worth, and he can't possibly have more than ten lines or whatever. The only terrifying thing about this movie is that it actually got released. What were they thinking? Beats me.
