Rating: Summary: Something a little different for all Stephen King fans! Review: Cujo to me is unlike any other Stephen King film, or book for that matter. Personally I am one of those people who honestly thinks that most horror films are jokes when it comes to genuine scares or thrills. In Cujo there aren't many, if any at all, but the story itself is interesting enough to make it a quality film. Now don't get me wrong, not everyone is like me and this movie can and does deliver on the scares for some other people I know who have seen it. The story moves rather quickly as the downward spiral for the tragic title character (dog) is set right from the opening scene. The acting is average for the time (1983) and the plot sometimes leaves you wondering..What the hell?...While not classic King horror..I.E. "The Shining", "Salem's Lot", "Christine"....it won't dissapoint many horror fans...Give it a try!
Rating: Summary: A Claustraphobe's Nightmare! Review: If I had read the book first I would have probably known what I was in for when I sat down to watch this movie. I have a deeply rooted fear of confined spaces and possibly an even bigger fear of being eaten. So basically, this movie scared me to no end! Now I have to admit much of the story (and acting) moved along fairly slowly, until the mother and son were stuck in the middle of nowhere, in a station wagon, with a large, rabid Saint Bernard attempting to get inside! It was this portion of the movie that got my skin crawling! When Cujo starts attacking the car and you just get this feeling that nobody is getting out of there alive, that's good Horror entertainment! Strangely enough I never felt that Cujo should die or that he was a "monster". I just kept thinking that all of us are victims of circumstance, and not one of us has control over the events in our lives. That concept alone is terrifying! The acting of the mother and son were perfect and I'd really like to know how they got the dog who played Cujo to act so mean! To me, a claustraphobe, this was one nightmare of a movie. If I had been younger I would have probably developed a serious fear of dogs to boot. But dogs are great, as long as you make sure they've had their shots! You don't want your dog going Cujo on you, now do you! One of the scariest movies I've ever seen!
Rating: Summary: A let-down. Review: Having read the book, which is a classic and truly terrifying, my expectations for this film were high. The idea of a family pet becoming a salivating monster is still a scary thought, but unfortunately the film fails to deliver. The 'cute' scenes involving the young boy and his father really have no business in a horror film. And the characters who die are all so obnoxious you couldn't care less about them anyway. In fact, Cujo, far from being frightening, comes across as the only sympathetic character in the entire mess. Added to that are the facts that the scenes in the stranded car drag on and become tedious, and that the 'surprise ending' is pointless and idiotic, and you're left with something which isn't worth the bother.
Rating: Summary: horror Review: cujo is one of my favorite movies that steven king is my favorite horror writer i love the movies he makes that why i collect the movies he does creepshow, christine, cujo as they are released on dvd i would to meet him in person and tell him how munch i loves his movies.and when he stars in them.
Rating: Summary: Bad Doggy Gets an Undeserved Bad Rap Review: Poor CUJO --- everyone always gives this movie a bad rap. Ya, there's way too much soap opera (especially in the first half) and the downer ending of the book has been terribly modified into a happy ending as well as adding a stupid Friday the 13th-type "shock"....but all in all, this is the same story the book told and director Teague definitely sets up the dog attack scenes flawlessly. There are some very harsh scenes of the dog attacking Dee Wallace in the car that rank high in horrific intensity. And Dee Wallace is very good as is the young boy actor. I read the book years ago prior to the film's original release and found it preferable to the film, but the movie (besides the ending) is still an admirable recreation of the same story...why so many viewers hate it so much leads me to believe they never read the book in the first place. The DVD from Artisan is a joke, however...the film is not widescreen and there are no extras not even the trailer (which would have been interesting to see again because Warner Bros. never wanted anyone to know it was about a dog when it was first released!)
Rating: Summary: Great book, but the Movie should be banned! Review: I am a huge fan of Steven King, both of his books and movies. I read Cujo a few years ago and really enjoyed it. Recently I bought the movie (DVD edition). This is easily one of the worst, most boring, ridiculous, yawn yawn, so stupid its almost funny movies I have ever wasted my time on! To top it off it is entirely NOT AT ALL SCARY! I mean, let's review...St. Bernard gets rabies and rather than go off and die, as any animal with rabies always does he kills his spouse abusing owner, his owners best friend who is a worthless redneck drunk and a sarcastic jerk of a sheriff, as well as terrorizing a cheating wife and her innocent son. The dog is really doing everyone a favor in this movie by killing the people that he does. I found myself rooting for the dog. One other thing is that the dvd offers no special features at all...if you must see this movie just rent it. Read the book it is so much better, If I could give this movie 0 stars I would!...But that's me....If you like the movie then buy it!
Rating: Summary: Very Faithful Adaptation Review: Cujo was very close to the book, and it was a good movie. It had pretty good special effects for a movie made in 1983. It had good actiung too. A great performance by Danny Pintauro and Dee wallace.
Rating: Summary: Its ok Review: Cujo was a very mediocre horror film based on kings work. Not up to par.
Rating: Summary: Pretty good Review: I liked this movie. Of course if wasn't as good as the book, but what movie is? Several scenes with the dog at the end will make you jump out of your seat. There are a few things that were very important in the book that weren't explained enough in the movie. Very good considering the age and price of the movie.
Rating: Summary: Bad, very bad. Review: I enjoyed the novel, I really did, but this film is just awful. All the scenes are abrubt and the dialogue is choppy. It was like reading the novel with only a quarter of the events and one eigth of the believability. I can't believe I kept this movie for some many days past its due date. The best actor has got to be the director, who actually convinced a company that he was competent of directing a film. I'm not a harsh horror critic, im a big fan in fact, but this is just unconvincing and bad. Read the book, but leave it at that. Your imagination way outdoes this film.
