Summary: Genuinely Creepy!
Review: I rented this DVD and watched it at home alone, and I was too freaked out to get up to go to the bathroom! Really. This has to be one of the most frightening films ever made, and the added scenes only made it scarier.For instance, I think the scariest scene was the "spider walk" scene, originally cut from the film, but added for this special edition version. I literally got goosebumps--I think that has to be one of the creepiest things I've ever seen. A must-see for anyone, whether you're a long-time fan, or a new viewer like me. My only complaint is that the movie tends to drag in several places. Other than that, it's an excellent film.

Summary: This movie is not frightening - at all
Review: I appreciate a good scary movie, such as Carrie, The Shining, Dressed to Kill, etc. However, Exorcist was not, is not, and never will be - scary. It is interesting, and fun to watch, but I sure wich people would stop foaming at the mouth as to how horrifying the film is. I girl talks in gutteral tones, stuff flies arounf the room, and her face gets all yucky looking. ZZZZZzzzzzzzz . . . ..

Review: Let's not get carried away with the 5 star ratings here. I saw this movie when I was about 12 and it didn't scare me then. The re-release bored me to tears. The movie was a bunch of talking and when it was supposed to be scary, it was more funny than anything. As a horror movie, it was decent, but, not the scariest movie of all time. Reading some of the reviews, I wonder who's getting paid to sell this drivel.

Review: I want to make clear that I love 'The Exorcist' it is a great film and is truly disturbing. The only reason I gave this DVD 4 stars is because I was dissapointed in the directors commentary. One real joy of many DVDs and Laserdiscs is that you can sit down and hear inside information on the making of a film. How they did this, what difficulties they had shooting that, etc. However, it is even better, usually, when you have a film with alternate versions because you can hear what was cut and what was added and why. However, on the Exorcist: TVYNS Friedkin just sort of describes the film to you. It is almost like he is describing what is happening for the vision impaired. He goes into no description of what is different in the new version, how they did the spider-walk, or anything. There were major points where I was really hoping for some insight on why a scene was expanded in the new edition, and he never even mentioned that the scened had been modified from the original version. If you want a DVD copy of the Exorcist then this is a 5 star DVD. The film is great and I have no problems with the presentation, but if you are into directors commentary tracks, be warned that this one is somewhat lacking.

Summary: Scary!
Review: When I first saw this film a couple of years back, I had trouble sleeping that night. Had I of seen it in this form with this new footage, I wouldn't of slept for months! Even though there is only 11 minutes of footage, it is the quality that counts. The first new sequence is Regan's first visit to the doctor, which shows several tests being done on her and Regan acting as if she was in a daze. Another really scary scene is right before the spiderwalk scene, when Regan's mom walks into the front door and the lights are going on and off, the white demon face flashes on the stove, and there is also an image of the demon statue on the wall. The spiderwalk was really cool too. There are a few more scenes in the film, but I don't want to spoil anything. If you liked the original version of the Exorcist, you must have this version!!

Summary: Great Film, not-so-great DVD
Review: Okay, this film deserves 5 stars. It is, after all, still the most shockingly frightening film EVER. That's saying a lot considering there are hundreds of horror films out there. This one still gives me the chills. But, the DVD (although digitally restored to perfection) has been released before. Of course, there are new scenes--yes, yes, yes, the famous "spider-walk" scene is fantastic (and chilling)--and the DVD still holds the director's commentary. It totally missed the Documentary which came with the first DVD release. It's a disappointment, not a big one, but one that would have made this DVD the absolute copy to own. I'm afraid the director's commentary isn't enough to keep me satisfied, but this is still worthy of your money . . . and a place in your collection.

Summary: You Will Never Eat Split-Pea Soup Again
Review: I was around 13 when this movie came to HBO. Because my parents forbid me from watching it, I made it a top priorty to go to a friend's house to see it. I got what I deserved because I could not sleep for days, so freaked was I by what I saw. Poor little Linda Blair must have been coached to envision the shambles her career would become to pull off such scenes of demonic possession. Her mom Ellyn Burstyn always has an edge in any flick she stars in: here, you simply can't believe how wacky she acts..I thought the devil threw one of his helpers into Ellen while he took over Linda. The priests do what they can for the kid, but she makes their lives quite difficult, spitting a hunk of Alpo at the old priest when he isn't watching. Don't let your kids see it if you don't want them sleeping in your bed for the next year or so.

Review: So I thought this movie was scary the old way, but i was shocked by this. That spiderwalk scene, though about five seconds long, made me cry actual tears. I feel the reason the director did not include this in the original version is because people would have died in the theatre of heart failure, and he did not feel like getting sued. So see it because it's just so scary.

Summary: Great transfer, but the "extras" are nothing great..
Review: This version's crystal clear soundtrack adds a lot to the creep factor, crank it up and turn down the lights. Picture quality is great, as well. I didn't know what to expect from the new take, but I like the subliminal images. The best (and hardest to notice) being the faint image of the demon Pezuzuu (sp?) near Regan's bedroom door (Look on the left side of the door as Mother exits the room, in the scene where she comes home to find Regan alone in the house). Creepy... The radio/tv clips are silly. They are just trailers that we've seen last month on, yeah, the tv and radio. The director's commentary is extremely boring. The guy doesn't tell us anything other than what we already know by watching. Seems like he is reading from the actor's scripts. I was hoping for something like the 25th aniversary's documentary, only in a commentary form, but no such luck. That said, rent/buy it anyway. This just gives us an excuse to watch it again.

Summary: An unique horror film.
Review: The Exorcist is without the doubt. The best most realistic horror ever. Features Strong Performances by Ellen Burstyn, Max Von Sydow, Jason Miller and Linda Blair. Excellent Screenplay by William Peter Blatty based on his novel. A great direction by William Friedkin. 12 added footage is good, too bad, they didn`t used all the spider walk scene, could have been cool. Still a strong film, the longer ending is great also. DVD has dated but good widescreen print(1.78:1) format and Digitally Remasted in the first time in Dolby Digital 5.1 with the expended new surround and Also in Dolby Surround with Mono Comptable. An new commentary track by the Director Friedkin. This could have been more cooler, if it had commentary from the novelist, cast commentary and make-up with special effects crew. DTS 6.1 Surround Ex. A new docmentary on the re-relase. Keep your The Exorcist:Special Edition on DVD. The two different are still strong as ever. Grade:A.
