Summary: The Exorcist -- [Still Scary as Heck] (After All These Years)
Review: When this movie first came out in the early seventies, there was a lot of hype about it, and I never understood it until the first shocking scenes flash before my eyes. Then I was a believer. We first meet Lankester Merrin as an archeologist in Northern Iraq. He is the man who will later be the film's title character. But while in Iraq, he unearths an ancient artifact, the spirit it represents perhaps as old as time itself. He has faced this enemy before, and he will have to again. The last things we see before fading to Georgetown is the squaring off of two old foes, a chilling foreshadow of things to come. Very little of the story to follow is actually about Merrin. Rather, it shifts alternately between two story lines. One involves actress Chris MacNeil and her 12-year-old daughter Regan, while the second centers around Damien Karras, a priest who feels he's lost his faith. ... As one of the film's theatrical trailers puts it, what happens to Regan-flawlessly portrayed by Linda Blair-is almost incomprehensible. When she speaks, we hear an impossibly low voice, clearly that of a man, and through Blair's performance, we feel that we're seeing the Devil, too. And we can't wait to see Father Merrin and Father Karras triumph over the beast. It wasn't just the special effects that haunted me days or even weeks after I saw this film. Because what you see on a movie screen is gone as soon as the movie ends and the house lights come up. It was what the film represented-the idea that an unwanted spirit can invade someone you love and turn them into something hideous-that affirmed my belief that there is a constant battle between good and evil in this world. It's an idea that left me watching and waiting, perhaps terrified of my return to bed in the middle of the night, and having to face a monstrous little girl who would kill me by twisting my head around, as happened to one of the film's characters. I've lost count of the number of times I've seen this movie. If I had to guess, I'd place it close to ten. And it gets more scary every time, right up there with John Carpenter's "Prince of Darkness," from 1987. I recently obtained the newest DVD version, the one with footage not seen in the original release. I highly recommend it for a night of edge-of-your-seat thrills you won't soon forget.

Summary: Dumb horror flick!
Review: I brought the special edition on video just because it might scare me and I thought half of the movie wasn't scary. There were just a bit few scenes that were scary and those scenes are the Spiderwalk scene and the scene were the girl's head is twisting. I thought this horror movie was dumb and it didn't even scare me. I thought it was kind of funny actually because in the movie Scary Movie 2 they make fun of this movie and that's why it didn't scare me. It does have good acting, best special effects. But the whole movie wasn't scary and it didn't give me nightmares. So if you plan on seeing this movie you won't get scared. I guess back in the old days in the late 70's everybody was scared when they saw this movie but it didn't scare me. If you want to see a good horror flick go see The Others.

Summary: One of the best movies ever made.
Review: The Exorcist is not just the best horror movies of all time but one of the best films ever made. The story surrounding a young girl possesed by a demon is a true good vs evil story that will scare the hell out of you in the process. The actors,Jason Miller, Ellen Burstyn, Linda Blair, (all recieved Oscar nominations) are at thier best. This movie is not for the weak of heart. It is a scary, powerful, movie. I saw this when it was re-released and it was just a powerful. If you have never seen this film rent, or buy it, today.

Summary: The best movie of all time!
Review: I must admit, I never have enough courage to watch this movie frequently, but when I do I see a movie that is a masterpiece even by today's standards. The new scenes the film company added on to here are amazing, such as the one where Reagan descends the stairs like a spider with blood dripping out her mouth, simply horrifying I'm telling you. This film, unlike some horror films, actually follows a very good story line, even if the prologue in Iraq is a bit tedious and long. But the reason for this, is that you will understand the film a little better. If your the type of person that enjoys getting spooked by movies such as these, I personally recommend you take the chance by picking up this movie.

Review: As a huge fan of the movie I found this box set to very informative! The documentary "The fear of God" goes into the background of the story and the making of the movie. A must have for any collector!

Summary: The devil himself...
Review: Well, since it is a classic and there is simply no comparison to modern aged movies, this is quite a movie for the late 70's. A young girl, Ragen becomes possessed by the devil and soon some serious help is needed. Determined mother tries to find answers for her daughter's mysterious behavior, and calls in the experts. A priest who believes the daughter is actually possessed.
The special effects are quite impressing for the time and with the 11 minutes of extra scenes added since the first version, this movie is quite a classic and should be seen by anyone, no matter of what religious beliefs.

Summary: Powerful filmmaking
Review: The Exorcist's biggest strength and what makes it such a great film is in how seriously it takes its subject. Although it is a horror film, and a very scary one at that, it sometimes seems like calling it that isn't doing justice to the film. The Exorcist is very much a human drama with realistic character trying to deal with a crisis that they don't understand.
The filmmakers are more interested in giving us real characters, drawn from real life people rather than from other films. It is very easy to sympathize with them. The movie takes its time developing them, their strengths and weaknesses, so that by the time we get to the climactic showdown we really don't know how it will end.
The movie is technically brilliant too. The camera work, the lighting, the sound are all superb. The script is beautifully written by WP Blatty. He actually takes the time to have his protagonist seek medical help to the point where the doctors don't believe that they have the power to help. They suggest an exorcism to cure the heroine's daughter, and she looks at them like they're crazy. Blatty doesn't make any compromises. The heroine, Chris McNeil, has no religious beliefs. SO it would be very unlikely that she would seek out a priest to perform an exorcism unless she reached a point where she must accept that that is the only thing that can save her daughter. I also liked how even the priest is skeptical, trying to tell her that exorcisms aren't done anymore since the dicovery of mental illness and things like that. This movie does not jump in to anything. It takes it's time setting things up for payoffs.
The Exorcist is no doubt the scariest film ever made for the simple fact that it takes its subject as seriously as Spielberg treated the Holocaust in Schindler's List. It doesn't go for cheap thrills and monsters jumping out from behind walls. When I first saw The Exorcist and a friend asked me what it was like I said that it was the cinematic equivalent of being attacked by a wild animal. Over the years my opinions about the film have not changed. This is powerful, exciting, and brilliant filmmaking.

Summary: The new exorcist is even more demented!
Review: I do not agree with a previous reviewer that the new version is a dumned down version of the movie. In fact , I would say that this newly cut version is even more demented then the original cut. Regan comes of as quite disturbed in the doctors visit scene and the spider crawl is truly frightening. For a movie nthat is pushing 30 years it is definetly as shocking today as it was when it was originally released. Highly Recommended.

Review: This film is and will always be my favourite. Not that this new version has much improvement really, but it's always nice to see the stuff that they left out back then.
The acting of Linda Blair is wonderful, and the others do a great job as well.
