Summary: An American Classic on DVD
Review: Warner did a wonderful job restoring this film - the image and sound are stunning. Yes, this is one scary horror film, but it's not the eye-popping visual effects that scare (they're a tad tame by today's standards - and I'm not saying today's standards are necessarily better - fake CGI being a current cinema rip-off) rather, it's the quiet moments of shame, guilt, fear of the unknown and the testing of one's beliefs that make for the real horror. The soundtrack is unsettling throughout the film underscoring the nervous nature of all the characters. Most frightening is how accessible a battle between good and evil can be: right in anyone's bedroom - little Regan is no more different than any of us. The films demon chose its victim at random and turned the lives of all those involved into a real nightmare. Also unsettling is the mysterious rustling heard by the mother in the late hours of night - as explained by the director on the commentary track - is the creepy beginning of some supernatural presence within the house. Turn down those lights and enjoy. Oh yeah, a word to those who challange this film to scare and say things like "at the end, I laughed!" I dare you to go swimming way out in the ocean by yourself with the soundtrack to JAWS playing on your headset. Scared yet?

Summary: Pea Soup Anyone?
Review: Watching The Exorcist in the present day, comparing it to other movies, I want to say that it would be considered "sloppy filmaking" in today's standards. Some of the editing throughout the film is atrocious, and the sets and wardrobe look understandably dated. But not in a good way unfortunately.

There are many long, drawn out scenes of boreing dialogue, usually concerning Regan's condition. Too many of these scenes in fact. The whole first half of the film is leading up to what we all REALLY want to see...Regan going beserk as she is being possessed by the devil. The scenes of Regan tied to the bed, spitting up pea soup and cussing like a drunken sailor on payday more than make up for the sluggish pace this film. It is so ultimately disturbing to watch how evil takes over this child's entire body. To watch every facial movement and reaction of Linda Blair's performance is incredible. She convinced me!

Summary: Not scary at all but it has a good plot
Review: i rented this movie because I heard its scary. At the end of the movie i started laughing because it was not scary at all. it has a good plot, but it has corny graphics and no scary aspects. Bambi made me more scared.

Summary: Oh my God! Wicked scary!
Review: I first saw the film when I was 14 yrs old and I had to sleep in my parents' room because I was so scared. To this day, 20 yrs later, I am still afraid to watch it even on television but sometimes I force myself. I just think that it was made too well.

Summary: all hype, no scars, just like blair witch
Review: am i the only person who has seen the exorcist? xactly what part of this movie do you guys think is scary. Actually, i thought it was pretty slow-moving and didnt have any scary scenes to it whatsoever. Hell, i though Scream was scarier than this movie. It did have its moments though, but it surely isnt the best horror movie ever made, and no, it's not scary. I recommend Halloween, Alice, Sweet Alice, or Suspiria instead.

Summary: Double Ace - Treble Scary
Review: With an excellent performance from Ellen Burnstein this film is the original horror experience. The devil himself takes over the body of young Regan and shows his grim nature to mankind. Not to be missed and not to be misunderstood.

Summary: This movie will scary the cr** out of you!
Review: From start to finish, this movie never let's you relax. Theacting and the photography coupled with a brilliantly written adaptation of the novel make for a movie that you may wish you'd never watched. Definitely not for kids. I've seen every horror flick made and only 2 consistently scare me every time The Shining and The Exorcist. If you haven't seen it, you're missing out on a horror classic!

Summary: The Best horror movie of all time
Review: What a movie!!! Imagine that you leave in this house, in this room, with this possesed girl. The suspense is truly realist. I have seen the documentary of The Possesed Boy of the 1949 case, and them, the film is better then the related case. This Special Edition is fantastic, espacially for the items like the Making-Of book, the soundtrack and original cards. The only worst thing in this Special Edition, why they did'nt put the complete version, in integrale... The Prequel (Exorcist 4) will be welcome...

Summary: Hey little girl, what are you doing with that cross?
Review: Of all horror flicks made to date, this has to be one of the all time classics. The graphic horror scenes and profanity certainly don't make this a movie for the faint-of-heart, but it presents the full chilling effect of William Peter Blatty's novel. Linda Blair is precociously talented in her role of Reagan McNeill. There are so many scenes in this film that will be indelibly etched in the memories of anyone who watch it.
