They're all so-so horror films, obviously products of their era, most of them slashers. DON'T LOOK IN THE BASEMENT was often shown alongside Wes Craven's LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT and Mario Bava's TWITCH OF THE DEATH NERVE (which some consider a sort-of precursor to FRIDAY THE 13TH) if that says anything. Anyway, it's not so great. And not so bad. It's a good movie for an uneventful night... a fright night, I guess.
GOD TOLD ME TO was directed by the same guy who made IT'S ALIVE, if that says anything. A bunch of strange, random murders are happening all around New York, all committed by different people who say some Jesus-looking character appeared before them to tell them to do it. Andy Kaufman plays one of the murderers.
THE HATCHET MURDERS (aka DEEP RED) was made by the Italian Dario Argento, who has a cult following 'cause he did SUSPIRIA, DEMONS and the Italian cut of DAWN OF THE DEAD. It's pretty tense and graphic.
SILENT NIGHT, BLOODY NIGHT is NOT "Silent Night, Deadly Night," the 80's slasher movie about the deranged Santa that everyone knows from its cover, with the picture of a hand holding an axe sticking out of a chimney. Nope. I haven't seen this one yet, actually.
I haven't seen THE THIRSTY DEAD either, but it looks stupid.
PIECES is a European gory slasher-film. If you're into gore and garbage like that, then watch it.
HOUSE BY THE CEMETARY is another Italian movie, by Lucio Fulci, who directed ZOMBIE... if that means anything. Some guy moves, with his son, to a haunted house. It's creepy and grotesque and disturbing.
I haven't seen LADY FRANKENSTEIN either. Looks cheesy.
