Summary: Dreadful film. Even worse DVD.
Review: Cheesy adaptation of a pretty good Stephen King novel. While the film is fairly faithful to the book, the directing and acting are so horrible, I thought I was watching an "A-Team" rerun.

On top of that, this is the worst looking and sounding DVD I have ever experienced. While the DVD restores the film's original widescreen composition, the sound is incredibly muddy and muffled and the visual quality is dull and lifeless.

While I wasn't a fan of this film, there is no excuse for a DVD that looks and sounds this bad.

Summary: BEST CLASSIC, TO SAY, EVER SEEN - 24 APRIL 1999
Review: DREW BARRYMORE REALLY PLAYED HER PART WELL, ALONG SIDE KEITH DAVID, BEST MOVIE THROUGH MY ENTIRE CHILDHOOD. I SIMPLY WISH STEPHEN KING CAN PULL HIS FINGER, AND ALLOW HOLLYWOOD TO MAKE A PART 2 NOW THAT DREW IS ALL GROWN UP...THE MORE WICKED, THE BETTER....

NUMBER 1 FAN, ALL THE BEST FOR THE FUTURE DREW

Summary: It was a terrific film of a girl who gets what she wants!
Review: Drew Barrymore was an excellant star and I don't believe anyone else could have done this and portrade more emotion in it!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: sizzling suspense
Review: Drew Barrymore(who was born to act)superbly plays little Charlie,a fiery kid with a case of pyrokinesis(or something)which cause her to set people on fire just by looking at them.

Summary: Why the R rating???
Review: Every time that I've seen this movie, I have to ask the question: How come that "Firestarter" got the R rating instead of PG-13? I feel that this movie should have gotten the PG-13 rating because there isn't enough stuff in this movie that could have supported the R rating. Yes, there is a "Armageddon" like ending in "Firestarter" but there is a difference between the two.

Summary: More annoying than scary
Review: Federal agents spend two hours provoking a girl with dangerous powers. Gee, I wonder what happens?

Summary: Great Adaptation, Average Movie!
Review: Having read the book I can say to things: 1)This movie follows the book almost word-for-word! 2)The story is great as a book but unexciting as a movie! The book is great in that you'll read and it will build up until the giant burning scenes! The novel blends the suspense and action wonderfully! The movie however, doesn't set up suspense making the non-action parts (80% of the film) very boring. If your a King fan you should check this out, otherwise it's another unsuspenseful sci-fi movie.

Summary: Drewlimore-Garry Hixon on Drewliistimo, stisti, Drewli
Review: Hello stisti, I love you, drewlimore is you new nickname. Review by her friend Garry Hixon, Firestarter is a movie about these two psychics, Heather Locklear and Brian Keith, who are college students and need money so they sign up for this experiment called lot 6. Its kind of like LSD. Anyway they are the only ones that survive the experiment, the Shop, (the OSI-organisation of scientific intelligence) is trying to get people to start fires, but they fail with the adults, but then the two fall and love and she gets pregnant with drew barrymore, Charlie, and she has the Pyrokenisis, she starts fires with her emotions, the shop finds out and tries to capture Drew to stat a world war, but she is too bad!! and sets the agents on fire, they end up killing the parents but she burns it all down in the end. "pull it back Charlie, pull it back" "that could bite you you know" "what" "that snake your holding" they constantly play this flick on cable and its not bad, they are on the run from the agents and it does seem a little more like drew than a lot of her movies, George C. Scott plays an exterminator named John, "Rainbird got her to do it, she thinks hes a janitor named John but hes really an exterminator" "do you think they took em?" at the end she is with Art Carney and she says to him as they are walking in to The New York Times, "I'm doing it daddy!" she sort of looked at Art Carney when she said it, and I always thought she was calling him her new daddy, but last year I realized she was looking up to heaven and was talking to her deceased father. She meant she was going public with the governament and there corporate corruption. I'm glad I got it wrong for years because it made me believe that Art Carney was her new father, know I now her dad was not replaceable. Good movie Drew, I am proud of you and love you always, your friend, Garry Hixon, Mirror Vision

Summary: An underrated Stephen King Classic
Review: Horror was starting to slide around the time this came out. Bad slasher films seemed to reign supreme and the idea of Horror = low budget was in everyones mind. However this title pulls all the stops and provides a highly entertaining, and suspensful thriller that only the mind of Stephen King could write.

This movie stars a very young Drew Barrymore in probably one of her top 5 best roles, and she was just a younun in this. Her character is just overwhelmed with emotions and the development to include the frightening finally proves that this young kid (at the time) could act.

That's not to say the supporting cast was lousy, in fact it was also the backup power of Martin Sheen and George C Scott that made the movie even better. Martin Sheen portrayed the diabolical Military Comandre and George C Scott as the cold and calculating John, the basic hired guns. The first 30 minutes are Drew and her father trying to escape and the last hour is about the tests they perform and teh eventual carnage taht results.

I recomend this to anyone out there. It is definetly worth the time and effort to see.

Summary: Please Rerelease This on A New DVD!
Review: I agree, both the book by Stephen King and this movie based on it are so underrated. Firestarter happens to be one of my favorite books by Stephen King and I really liked this movie and thought Drew Barrymore (The Wedding Singer) and David Keith (An Officer and a Gentleman) were perfect as Charlie McGee and her father Andy, and George C. Scott (The Flim-Flam Man) was amazing as the sinister Rainbird, he really creeped me out! Martin Sheen (The West Wing) was also great in his roll and so were Art Carney (The Honeymooners) and Louise Fletcher (One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest). I see that the DVD got a bad rating from widescreen Reviews and it seems it's not being made anymore and I would really like to have this movie on DVD so I hope they rerelease this movie on a new and much improved DVD!
