Summary: Want to see a scary movie? Go see something else
Review: Ghost Ship. The title says it all. The fear factor in this movie is about the same as a surprise visit from your Mother in Law. Although the visual effects were pretty good, the story line was less than clever. If you want to see a movie with "jump in your seats" surprises, I would recommened renting a classic like "Cujo" or "Friday the 13th Part 1". Heck, even "Bambi" has more fear climax than Ghost Ship. I can see why top actors turned this scipt away and you are left with people staring in this film dumped over from Television or bit actors they found on Hollywood Blvd. performing for quarters.

Summary: Oh, honestly.
Review: Oh, boy. I love a good horror movie. And even when I don't love a good horror movie, I love a good mocking of a bad horror movie. I was ready for either. Ghost Ship provided neither.

Admittedly, I watched Ghost Ship in horror -- but it was most definitely the wrong kind of horror. Dig this plot: Ghost Ship is about a team of looters who head out to salvage what treasures they can from an old Italian ocean liner. Think "Titanic" with ghosts. It's a totally decent premise, but quickly its execution proves faulty. Of the two ethnic stereotypes, the token Hispanic character, Santos, is played by an Australian gentleman whom I suppose is actually of Greek heritage. The first scene establishes a gruesome morbidity that the rest of the movie simply cannot live up to, featuring hundreds of bisected inviduals slowly sliding off their own midsections. Moreover, when the flimsy plot needs more fleshing-out, the director cuts us into a Music Video Segment, taking us into a ghostly history replete with gold, automatic machine guns, and booming techno music. And, in a move which can only be taken as cruelty against the audience -- well, let's just say some of the writing is such that careful audience members might have the movie "figured out" in its first ten minutes.

The real problem with Ghost Ship is, it quite frankly is not entertaining. Whatever moments of genuine startles or flinches the audience may have, are born simply of the expectation that the film is finally going to live up to its gory opening scene, which it doesn't. Otherwise, the movie is dull, dull, dull. Its plot, already half-AWOL, is patronizingly watered-down. The screen talents are completely wasted. It could have been good. It could have been.

Summary: Ghost Ship Doesn't Stay Afloat
Review: I watched this movie in the theaters today. The film had some suspense for about an hour until it hits one of the funniest death scenes I had ever seen.
A salvage crew goes aboard a rusted out Italian cruise ship to plunder is treasures. As they explore the ship, things get eerie as they hear noises and see the ghost of a young girl. The film was going good until the aforementioned scene. One crewmember, who was checking out the ballroom, suddenly finds himself back in the past. He is now standing in the room as it was before it sank and in the midst of a lively party. He catches the eye of the attractive woman singing on stage. She sasheys off the stage and heads for the door enticing our fellow to follow her by unzipping her dress. He follows her as she strips naked and our guy, apparently forgetting that it's a ghost, and oblivious to the fact that it's supposed to be freezing cold, becomes aroused and starts to take off his clothes! As she stands before him, he reaches out to grab her, passes right through her, and plunges to his death in an elevator shaft! I almost busted a gut laughing. From that point on, the movie goes downhill, resolving whatever plot existed and sticking us with a ridiculous ending. Too bad because the rusted ghost ship made a pretty good setting, and the opening scene was great! Better luck next time.

Summary: 4 &1/2 Stars. Creepy Fun. A movie suited for Halloween.
Review: The trailers have finished. Including one of a good looking movie called Darkness Falls and another of Dreamcatcher. The WB logo comes up to the sound of a piano and orchestra, followed by Village Roadshow Pictures and the Dark Castle Entertainment. The opening credits begin with "Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow Pictures Present ...... A Dark Castle Entertainment Production" in RED cursive type letters. See a whole bunch of bubbles under the water, and then BEHOLD THE SHIP. Cut to a scene of a pretty woman singing some song in either French or Italian. Couples dancing on one of the decks. All of a sudden a cord whips across the screen and cuts them all in half. What an opening. It was clear that the movie is going to have rather large amounts of gore. Also some shocking moments. AWESOME visual effects, love the ship sinking while the aurora is blazing in the sky and all the ghosts swirling around it into the sky. Weird ending. All in all a spooky Halloween movie with great visuals that really needs to be seen around Halloween.

Summary: Disappointing, but entertaining
Review: I'm going to buck the trend and say I enjoyed the movie. Not that it was great by any stretch of the imagination, but it was entertaining. Unfortunately, it could have been a whole lot better. The biggest let down is that it is not scary. Sure a few things jump out from time-to-time, but that's about it. The basic story is a salvage crew goes after an Italian luxury liner that has been missing for 40 some years. They are tipped of by a weather plane pilot who wants a "piece of the action". The visual of the rusted hulk of a ship is quite well done and creepy. Of course once the salvage crew is on board ship, they get split up and all kinds of nasty things start to happen. The acting is quite flat, but I've seen worse. The characters are never developed to the point where you really care what happens to them. It's very cliché in that you know most are going to die, but as I said "Who cares"? The twist in the story is a little odd, but original. The opening scene of the movie is one of the best and most gruesome I've seen. The second best sequence comes towards the end when past events are revealed. The whole sequence reminded me of a Marilyn Manson video. If you look past the disappointment of the lack of scares, and take the acting for what it is, it's not bad overall. Don't put this one high on your list and don't pay more than a matinee price. If you're a fan of the genre, then it's certainly worth at least a rental.

Summary: Pretty ...good!!!!
Review: This isn't really my kind of film but i was curious. As you know i can be pretty harsh on films of today with there talentless actors and endless special effects that just go on and on,,,,usually brought on by an untalented cast,,,but i digress.....This film was really pretty good. It was like going to the movies of yester-year and being scared laughing funny all at the same time. It's a well done job by the cast, script and director and really worth the money. You'll have good time and isn't that the reason for going to a movie?Happy Halloween everyone!

Summary: Not as bad as you'd think!
Review: Walking in to the theater, i didn't expect very much. I had read all of the lousy reviews, but wanted to see it myself since I am a big fan of horror movies. I was surprised by it. During the opening credits, you wouldn't even think it's a horror movie. It opens in the 60's. The credits are in nice pink cursive lettering, there is ballroom music, and a beutiful ship. All of that is shattered minutes later by one of the nastiest, goriest things I have seen in a long time. I won't ruin it for you.
Flash forward 40 years to the present. A salvage crew gets a tip about a long lost ship(yep, it's the one). The decide to go salvage it, thinking of the money they could make. So they go out to the ship. Strange things happen, for one, the ship does not always appear on the radar. Once they are on the ship it gets real weird. A woman believed she saw a little girl, a man hears a woman singing, anouther thinks he sees the dead captain in a mirror. Then when something goes terribly wrong, their own boat explodes, leaving them trapped on the ship.
The movie is pretty fast paced and fairly well directed. The best scene is a flashback that shows everything that happened on the ship. That scene is very well directed(and not to mention gorey). The movie is worth seeing especially if you like horror movies. This movie is not especially scary, but it is fun to watch. I would rate this movie 3 1/2 out of 5.

Summary: Ghost Ship Sinks!!!
Review: My friends and I were in the mood to see a scary movie last night and decided to give Ghost Ship a shot, and we were so let down. The plot was full of holes and very shallow, the storyline very hard to follow.
A group of seafaring salvagers come upon the mother load of lost ships, the one that everyone would love to get there hands on. Yet, when they board her, they run into very strange findings such as bulletholes and new watches, that could never be on a ship that old. Slowly members of the salvage crew start seeing things that they just shouldn't see, like little girls and lounge singers.
Finally they decide that they have had enough of this haunted ship. They decide to take what they have found on her and get out of there as fast as they can, but when they try to leave, thier own ship blows up and they are stranded on this huge, menacing cruise liner, that is 60 years old, with all of it's inhabitants trying to kill them one by one.
I gave this movie two stars, because it did have some rather scary parts, but all in all I would wait for the video if I were you.

Summary: Impressive
Review: Every year around Halloween a bunch of "scary movies" come out attempting to offer up a few scares and cashing in on all the spooky fun. Rarely are any of these movies as good as the ones that have come out this year. With The Ring scaring up big business at the box office and earning a credible reputation for being genuinely frightening, one might suspect that a movie coming out that good would be a fluke. Then comes Ghost Ship. A movie that looks as though it reaks of cheap scares about an abandoned ship found in the middle of the ocean. One look at the trailer and one might turn their nose writing this off as another poor Dark Castle remake/flick (House On Haunted Hill, Thirteen Ghosts, Feardotcom, etc). However, just five minutes into watching the movie, you can't help but hear gasping and screaming coming from fellow movie goers as it's impressive opening scene unfolds. Its from there the movie takes you on a mind bending ride offering up lots of shock worthy scares and a great mystery. Julianna Margulies shows she has what it takes to play the lead on the big screen and the supporting cast all do a great job of adding to the fun. This movie is great and I'd reccomend everyone who wants a Halloween treat to go see it. Not for children at all or for those against strong violence and excessive gore.

Summary: ghost ship=mediocre entertainment
Review: When i first saw the trailer for this film i had some of the highest hopes in years for a paranormal genre film .At times it tries to hard to be like the past two haunted dark castle films which is okay but at least there were far more scarier sequences in House on haunted hill ,and 13 ghosts and more convincing.I think the film delves in character development to much and not enough in the scare department .The acting was fine and visuals were above average but not even these elements are the ingredients for a classic ghost film.At least this time around the spirits are on a ship and not in a dark dreary house. This film stars Julianna Marguiles formely from the show E>R> along with Gabriel Byrne but not even a couple faces can save the film for me .It's very average at best and could have been so much better.I would have given this movie ** stars but after all it is my my second favorite genre right behind slashers. Some of you may like it just do not go in expecting chills galore and you may enjoy .Take care!!!!
