Summary: Berlinger Should Be Ashamed of Himself
Review: I rented Blair Witch 2 because of Berlinger's involvment in the project. Berlinger, the director of BW2, also directed the extremely important Paradise Lost and Paradise Lost 2: Revelations. Both of these documentaries tell the tale of 3 boys who allegedly embarked upon a ritualistic, occult killing within the seclusion of a wooded area. The three boys who supposedly committed these crimes were convicted for the following reasons: 1) They wore black clothes and wore their hair long
2) They read books on wicca
3) They listened to hard rock music Needless to say, these 3 boys did not receive a fair trial. Meanwhile the real killer likely walks the streets. So here comes BW2, a film that exploits Berlinger's previous involvement with the Paradise Lost documentaries. After all, what is BW2 about? It's about a group of young people (including a gothic girl dressed in black and a wiccan) who embark upon a ritualistic killing in a wooded area. One of the boys featured in the Paradise Lost film sits on death row, and may very likely be executed if a federal appeal is denied. Berlinger's fictional exploitation of his documentary work serves only to feed the fire that sent these 3 boys to prison in the first place. Berlinger should be ashamed. His involvement with BW2 is in such horrible taste that I am forced to question the integrity of his work on the Paradise Lost films. You would think that a filmmaker who documents the imprisonment of 3 boys due to hysteria sounding the "reality" of satanic cults would avoid such shlocky, vulgar material. At one point in BW2, Berlinger coyly self-references his earlier work, as the goth girl states, "I come from a town where wearing black clothes can get you accused of being a murderer." BUt then, of course, the statement is nullified as the goth girl really is a murderer (in Berlinger's film, that is). BW2 is so narrow minded that it might as well have been made by the people who put the West Memphis Three in prison in the first places. Unfortunately, it would appear that Berlinger is more interested in making a name for himself than he is in honoring the plight of the West Memphis Three. And that's an unforgiveable compromise.

Summary: ONE OF THE MOST UNDERRATED HORROR FILMS EVER MADE
Review: Alright, alright--lets cut the B.S. There are those who like this film, and those who hate it. The ones who hate it claim, "How could the filmmakers take something as original as the Blair Witch Project and do this as a followup?" The answer is quite simple--nothing would have satisfied you. What did you want, a remake of Aliens with a group going into the woods to hunt for the three missing kids? There is no satisfying way to continue the story to please everyone, so Joe Berlinger did something unheard of--he changed the whole viewpoint. He turned ther series around and still made it necessary to see the original film before taking us into a new direction.
The people who like this film generally hated the first one and were happy to see this happen. I like both films and see each one as important cinema for the horror gendre to evolve.
Joe Berlinger, who you might or might not know created both the Paradise Lost documentaries and seemed to be gearing this as a so called "Third Installment." Characters make one or two references to his previous films and the opening title sequence is quoted from the previous films. His films, including this, as a whole are fascinating and should be seen--and they will live on despite what ramblings are written about on amazon.com.

Summary: Lighten Up
Review: I was disappointed with The Blair Witch project after all the hype. I didn't expect much from the sequel. Maybe that's the answer. We should stop trying to be Siskel and Ebert and just watch the movie. I found it to be fun which makes it better than 90% of the movies I have seen in the past five years. I wasn't expecting Gone With The Wind. It was a good horror movie. What's wrong with that?

Summary: Terrible Sequel
Review: They took something that made sense and made it into something that made absolutely no sense whatsoever. When I watched the first movie in theaters, it stayed with me for days. I was totally creeped out by the experience. This movie did not have the same effect on me. The acting is second rate and the characters come off as trite and cliched. A horror film is supposed to at least do one of three things: 1. Scare you, 2. Creep you out, or 3.Gross you out. This film did none of the those things. I'm not sure what the heck they were thinking when they made this sequel. I think they started out with a great premise, but it often seems that they made it up as they went along, therefore it makes little sense. I gave it two stars solely because it is the second to the first masterpiece and they did at least moderately pay homage to the first one, but it's not enough to save it from being a disaster. I do hope they make a third installment of this "project" and when they do I hope they take time to think it out and write the story before they make the film.

Summary: Better than the First
Review: Blair Witch 2 is better than the first one in action as well as horror. As the first Blair Witch attempted to prove the reality of fiction by using "real/reel" footage, Blair Witch 2 showed the absolute unreality of film, that it can be edited to take on any form. In this time of Reality Television, Blair Witch 2 shows that reality to the editor. This movie makes a great purchase because it's one of those horror movies you can watch with friends over and over again thanks to the special "secret of Esrever" at the end of the film. You can see if you see anything different.

Review: I am wiccan, I saw the first movie and wasn't too upset because they didn't actually SHOW a witch hurting anyone. This movie has an actual witch, as ddefined in our times. The chericter of Erica is one that i liked because they didn't try to sugar coat her like in "Simply Irresistable." And even though it all ended in the realization that there had been a huge demonic sex orgy, I knew it wouldn't make people go onw modern day witch hunt, so i loved the movie.

Summary: While Cheesy, Book Of Shadows is OK.
Review: The main problem with Book of Shadows - Blair Witch 2 was that it filled a fairly good idea with loads of cheese, and made it look somewhat cheap. The basic plot line for the film was OK. The unseen force that was causing all of these strange occurances made it somewhat facinating to watch & the ending was satisfying enough. But I think that had the project taken more time to develop, and not be thrown together so fast to capitalize on the the first one's success, it would have been a far better film, & a lot more worthy to be the sequel to the 1999 Original.

Review: Someone just had to make a Blair Witch 2. While the plot is good and the acting is decent, the payoff is not that great. More people go into the woods to see what they can learn about a legendary witch. What they find out is not what they expected. A disturbing resolution that makes people reconsider what is real, or not, keeps this movie from falling under its own weight. I hope the third movie I heard about is better--and finally puts an end to the franchise. Because how much can you take before it becomes nauseating?

Summary: Not a True Sequel
Review: How do I begin with this review? For one thing, this movie is not a true sequel because it acknowledges that The Blair Witch Project was a work of fiction. This acknowlegement kills the fun of the first movie. If I could remake Blair Witch 2, first I would let the audience continue to believe The Blair Witch Project was a documentary. Second, I would shot this movie on a lower budget. I feel that making this movie a different sort of movie than the first was best since making another one like the first would be redundant. This movie was suppose to be like a documentary that does a reinactment of a typical group of crazed Blair Witch fans. Sorry, but this movie did not seem like a reinactment and felt like exactly what it is, a work of fiction. It was too well produced and too much of a typical Hollywood film to be believable. The third change I would make would be to write a more believable script that follows how a typical reinactment script goes. Forth and final, I would also try to get the acting to the same level of acting you would see in a reinactment so it would be hard to tell the difference between this work of fiction and a reinactment of an actual event. Another reason why Blair Witch 2 was not as good as it could have been is because the movie studio didn't give the director complete artistic freedom. The movie studio dictated what text would be shown at the beginning of the film, and the flashbacks of the murders were added to the final cut of the film against the director's will. That goes to show that directors can only have artistic freedom if they work independently, but unfortunately there isn't a lot that can be done with a low budget which can also limit artistic expression.

Summary: Watchable!!
Review: Contrary to what I heard, I actually liked this movie. I thought it was very innovative and different. I have never saw a concept that twisted in anybody's movie. I guess you really have to understand what truely happened in order to get what was going on in the movie, or else you won't like it. This movie really makes you think.
