Summary: The goriest movie ever?
Review: Olaf Ittenbach has created a marathon gore fest with Premutos. Finally this infamous German film has been released on dvd in the US. The plot is about a fallen angel named Premutos who raises the dead to take over the world. Only a group of heavily armerd party-goers stand in his way. Things get messy often as bodies are blown to bits and hacked apart via axe, sword, and chainsaw. There's even a tank in the blood soaked finale. Perhaps the highest body count in any zombie flick, at 139. Premutos easily rivals Dead Alive as the goriest movie ever made, yet also contains the comedic element that Jackson pulled off so well. The violence is so over the top and relentless that it becomes absurd. This is just what Ittenbach wanted. The movie isn't supposed to be taken seriously, the other reviewers must not understand the premise of the gore flick. That's ok, average horror fans won't get it but us splatter freaks will eat it up.The dvd itself contains the dubbed English audio (so poorly done and hilariously bad that it's entertaining on it's own) and the original in German. There are trailers for other movies but no trailers or commentary for Premutos unfortunately. However, there is a documentary on the making of Premutos that is very cool as it contains lots of behind the scenes footage and reveals certain gore effects. Interviews with the cast members are also included. Overall, a very enjoyable movie for it's low budget feel. Definitely cause for celebration if you're a gorehound. Don't hesitate to pick this bad boy up! Hopefully Shock o Rama will release Ittenbach's other gore epics Black Past and the Burning Moon on dvd also.

Review: Olaff Ittenbach's first shot on film feature,Premutos, takes it's place up there in gory B masterpieces with Peter Jackson's Braindead (Dead-Alive), and Stuart Gordon's Re-Animator. This movie really doesn't take itself seriously on many level..it's over the top gore will have you squirming,but at the same time laughing your a** off.This is what horror movies are all about.
Olaff Ittenbach casts himself in the main role about a tale of a falen angel that has walked the earth as early as christ's death on the cross.From start to finish this movie is a blood gushing,head popping,zombie stomping masterpiece of it's genre. If the typical Hollywood trash such as Scream and Jeepers Creepers has you yawning and swearing for it's dvd purchase...than this movie is for you. Over the top gore, slapstick comedy, and a really great time.

Summary: Not worth the wait
Review: Premutos arrived in the US amid the mid-summer 2002 DVD releases with little fanfare, and it's just as well. It was released in an English-dubbed version, and I swear, the dubbing in this obscure gorefest is absolutely the worst EVER!!! The most ludicrous dubbing on ANY 70's Chinese Kung Fu film tops this one easily. You often hear silence coming from the mouth of someone supposedly screaming throughout the whole film. So is it worth shelling out the cash to replace the German language video transfer you learned the story by? Well, it depends...
First of all, the picture is much sharper, albeit a bit grainy. The DVD case claims it is complete and uncut (but it's not. Several minutes are missing, as those of you with the video-transfers will notice right away.) It also includes a "behind-the-scenes" documentary that is a hoot, even though it's an hour long. Fortunately, the German language dialogue (without subtitles) is available if you can't handle the awful dubbing.
In the final analysis, this DVD is worth the price if you've never seen it, but the rest might want to resist unless image clarity is an issue. Frankly, releasing the film on DVD without English subtitles was a rather asinine decision, and it sorely shows.

We are able to follow the lineage of the "chosen one," whose duty as the son of Premutos, is to prepare and protect the fallen angel at the time of his return. The current "chosen one" happens to be a whiny teenager whose antics and quirky family serve as a vehicle for humor. If taken seriously, the movie will seem interminably protracted and annoying. However, if one is able to appreciate the absurdity of the gore, violence, and dialogue then the film is doable. The narration is cheesy and the dubbing sub-par...however, I am told by a German friend that this said dubbing was actually comparable to the original acting (in that both are horrible). The film was rich with gore and splatter including projectile hematemesis, exploding bodies, gunshots to the head, groin-chomping, loin-stomping, head-splitting, char-broiling, saber-sticking, drawn-and-quartering, and party-going...all of which span over a millennium. Extras on the DVD include several advertisements and numerous trailers for other Shock-O-Rama movies including seduction, retro-seduction, and spoof movies-all of which seem to be soft-core porn. The only extra on the DVD worth viewing is the "Making of Premutos" as it details behind-the-scenes info on the gore and production efforts. This movie should only be purchased by true fans of the genre-i.e., gore, the living dead, off-beat humor, or by college students majoring in German. Furthermore, the viewer should be patient as the movie tends to grow on you. I've read comparisons to Dead Alive (a far better film)--if you have not seen this Peter Jackson masterpiece, you should do so prior to watching Premutos.

Summary: It's not very gory!
Review: The consensus here seems to be that "Premutos" delivers the goods in terms of gore, but has little plot, bad dubbing, etc. The most cutting comment I can make, then, is to say that in addition to all the other negatives...it's really not that gory! Maybe this is because of the way it's shot. The "action" scenes are done in slow motion, and very dimly lit, which gives the film a somnambulant feeling--it's all so slow; it's like the characters are moving underwater. And there's a LOT of gunplay--how fun is it to watch zombies take bullet hits for 10 or 15 minutes? (Maybe Ittenbach indulges in this because it's easy, special-effects-wise--you cut from the guy firing the gun, to the zombie with the red stains exploding on its chest. But this isn't very "gory," it's just boring.) I waited for this movie to come out for a long time, and when I finally bought it I was really disappointed. Since I have nothing against the video company that put this out, why don't I recommend "Zombie Doom" instead. Ittenbach shot on film and tried very hard to make everything look realistic, Andreas Schnaas shot on video and sometimes uses obvious rubber busts for the gore effects, but paradoxically, the gore in "Zombie Doom" is more disturbing and effective. (And I'm not a Schnaas fan, either--his other movies are terrible--but this one is pretty good.) Also, in general, "Doom" is a fast-paced, fun and wacky movie, whereas "Premutos" is a real chore to sit through.

Summary: yes IT IS GORY!!!!!
Review: The movie starts off about the legacy of PREMUTOS. Then it goes to the story about a kid who has these reaccuring dreams and flashbacks about all sorts of stupid stuff like the crucifixtion of Jesus and wars and everything else leading to God's fallen angel PREMUTOS. Then the movie wastes it's time with chit chat between people. Then the kid turns into PREMUTOS and he is reborn to raise alot of zombies to devour the living. OH MY GOD!! I thought this movie was gonna be a flook. But it shocked the hell out of me. The movie's gore definitely matches DEAD ALIVE! No kidding. The real entertainment however is the english dubbing. It's so crappy and unprofessional that it's funny. The sound of this movie is ridiculous but the gore, the FX and just about everything about the movie is great. Definitely buy this one.

Summary: Worth a look...
Review: There is enough gore in this film to satisfy anyone's need for carnage. Toward the end, it becomes insanely overdone but, nonetheless, entertaining to watch. Some lesser features include disgustingly bad dubbing, fairly lackluster acting, and horrible DVD release. Many times throughout the movie, someone's mouth will be moving, but no sound can be heard. The dubbed lines are horrendously under/over-acted and redundant at times. In the ending battle scene, there is a gross lack of voices and ambient sound effects. The DVD has no Premutos commentary or trailer. There is a plethora of .. trailer is also horribly dubbed. It becomes VERY awkward to watch eventually, as the translator sounds like he's working on the spot. There are a few interesting bits, namely the special effects descriptions. All in all, a mixed bag. If you're interested in an extremely over-the-top gorefest, give Premutos a look. Otherwise, avoid it.

Summary: Premutos vs BrainDead (aka Dead/Alive)
Review: This low budget German zombie flick is most often compared to "the goriest movie ever" 'Braindead' and rightfully so (please note that even the alledged "unrated version" of this film titled Dead/Alive is cut by approx 8 minutes! and I am comparing Premutos to the full version 'Braindead') Essentially both movies are surprisingly similar in that they are both comedies and both have climaxes that last around 15-20 mins of non-stop gore featuring zombies running amuck at a party. However Premutos feels in a sense alot closer to 'Bad Taste' in that its low budget seems often show, especially during the historical flashbacks and like 'Bad Taste' the whole production feels as though it was put together by a group of friends with more enthusiasm than cash. To cut to the case, no 'Premutos' is not gorier than 'Braindead' in my opinion. It easily has a higher bodycount and plenty of great gorey moments, but the limited budget makes it impossible for every gore scene to be as over the top as the ones in 'Braindead'. While not out doing 'Braindead' I will concede that 'Premutos' probually equals it in a way or at least comes closer to topping 'Braindead' than any other film, including 'Bad Taste' and 'Ricki Oh'. As much as I loved 'Premutos' there are some drawbacks that keep it from ever being as good as 'Braindead', some with the film but most with the DVD presentation. Like I said the film itself is a low budget affair and you can tell, this makes no difference to me but I know there are people out there that hate anything with this indie feel. While some very cheese war and Jesus flashbacks might not bother me, I didn't care much for some of the tedious and boring scenes in the middle of the film. Now I have a great attention span, '2001' is one of my favourite films and I love all those plodding Jess Franco flicks but the scenes with meaningless dialogue between the characters at the mid point of the film really broke my patience. Of course this could be due to the attrocious dubbing. A major flaw hindering the film is the dubbing on the DVD which makes any dialogue painful to sit through. I have great affection for kung fu flicks and hearing the bad dubbing may add to the flavour of these movies, but the dubbing used on this disc out does any terrible 70s dubbing at times completely out of sync with the visuals, in the climax there are plenty of moments where characters mouths are moving yet the is not dialogue and the voice acting is ghastly. The disc gives you the option of hearing the original German soundtrack which is great but I don't speak German and there is no subtitles? Audio in general is bad quality overall too. Overall this is a great flick and should be in any gorehounds collection, the disc like I said suffers from terrible audio but has some advantages such as being fully uncut and also there a good little making of doco included.
