Rating: Summary: Disappointing Zombie Film Review: For zombie film buffs it should be a rule to ignore low budget zombie films over the last few years. Not that large budget films are guarantees of excellence, but they have a much better track record over the last 10 years than their low budget counterparts in the zombie genre. Meat Market is one such example of a bad low budget film. It has a promising enough storyline, but the effects are bad as is the acting. It tries to be a quirky Night of the Living Dead but can't pull it off. At the end of the credits, there is an unbelievable threat against anyone who'd dare illegally copy the film. That was about the best laugh I had during the entire movie given that I can't imagine ANYONE wishing to bootleg copy this film.

Rating: Summary: Horrific! But not in a good way.... Review: Holy bejeemers! Wow, is this "movie" a pile! To begin with, there is a decided lack of good zombie movies out there, so I've been trying to find the hidden gems among them, to no avail. I tried my luck with "The Dead Next Door" and was massively disappointed. So, I didn't learn my lesson and took a gamble on "Meat Market", another super-low budget zombie flick, that had been given some praise around the internet. Well, looks like I'm 0-for-2!The plot is yet another ripoff of "Dawn of the Dead". Zombies are taking over the civilized world, swat teams are everywhere, and two survivalists (guy & girl) are the main characters we follow around, ripped from the "Resident Evil 2" video games storyline. Along with the borrowed plot hooks, some ludicrous twists are thrown in as well. Inexplicably, 3 female vampires sporting laser rifles are thrown into the mix, hooking up with our heroes. Next, a washed-up masked Mexican wrestler joins the fray. Later, we learn that some of the zombies are part cyborg, this bit of info gleaned from an evil corporate scientist, of course. Yep, an "evil" corporation is responsible for the zombie holocaust (ripped from the Resident Evil storylines once again). Production values are meager. I guess it was shot on digital video, although it looks like a camcorder to me. Dialogue is scarce and silly. The acting is completely atrocious. Special effects aren't very special. Most of the gore looks like tomato soup, baked beans, or silly string. I have to give them some credit for producing a few good-looking zombies here and there. Most of the scenes look like they were shot in a school, a quarry, and one city block. Set pieces? No such thing here. I guess since the huge, criminal success of the dreadful "Blair Witch", everybody with a camcorder thinks they can make movies now. Sorry, doesn't work that way. Some people should leave the film-making to actual film-makers. This movie actually makes "Hell of the Living Dead" seem coherent. A piece of garbage like "Meat Market" really reminds me how zombie films such as "Dawn of the Dead" and "Zombie" shine, and just fortifies their status at the top of the genre. It also gives me a newfound respect for movies that I had perviously considered mediocre zombie flicks, such as "City of the Living Dead" or "Let Sleeping Corpses Lie". Spend your money elsewhere, this movie is terrible.
Rating: Summary: er... Review: I had been browsing interesting movies and Meat Market came up in the bunch somehow amongst Ginger Snaps and Decasia -- and out of curiosity I picked it up -- only to be really appalled and disappointed. I've heard of underground films, sure, but give me a break. This laughable film was a posing effort by some kid looking for a buck. Kudos to him for trying, just spare the rest of the public from having to sit through it. A modern-day version of the Lemonade stand, I can understand how every kid wants to jump on the independent band-wagon. I truly was emarrassed to watch this and felt really bad that Meat Market made it past highschool hallway circulation. I am only Thankful that I was watching it alone and didn't make any of my friends sit through this monstrosity. Want independent cheeze but with an entertaining catch? Watch Ginger Snaps instead. Goes along the werewolf theme, but there's blood and people get killed. I would also suggest the movie May. I cannot recommend Meat Market to the living, dead or otherwise. Save your money and buy a real movie.
Rating: Summary: Very entertaining! Review: I had never heard of this title. I saw it online, it sounded good and I ordered it blind. I'm glad that I did. I've seen many low budget zombie films in my time. "Meat Market" was one of the best in many years. *Was it really low budget? Yes and no. They made excellent use of locations and special effects. The zombies had the Italian make-up look to them like in Fulci's "Zombie". *Was it [similar to] Romero's film? Yes, but how can a zombie film be made in this day and age that isn't? I would call this more of a major tilt of the hat to Romero's work. *The acting was very good with some characters and Cousin Billy level in others. It balanced well though. *I had a few slight problems with some of the plot twists with characters that took the film out of a "What if this really happened?" mode. *Lots of flashy fades and cut aways. This may have been over done just a little. All in all, I highly recommend "Meat Market" to fans of modern zombie films. I paid [a reasonable price] for the DVD and it was really worth every penny to me. A sequel has just been released on VHS. I can't wait to see it on DVD when it is released to that format. Check it out. You'll be glad you did!
Rating: Summary: Well Made! Skimpy Budget - But Entertaining! Review: I had no idea MEAT MARKET was such a low budget movie. I did not know that it was shot on video for about six bucks. But when I started watching it, I realized that despite it's low-budget roughness, this movie is actually good! The acting hovers around average; sometimes pretty good, sometimes pretty weak. The image quality is sometimes poor. And the pacing leaves a bit to be desired. BUT - there is so much good stuff here, the bad stuff seems not so bad. MEAT MARKET is a great story. I've never seen a movie successfully combine zombies, vampires, sleazy exploitation, science fiction, and Mexican wrestling! I loved it! The movie is often spooky, often gory, and never boring. If you're one of those mainstream "horror movie" fans who only sees the Hollywood junk, you'll probably hate MEAT MARKET. But if you're a REAL horror fan, you'll put up with the low budget to be rewarded with a very unique, imaginative, and entertaining zombie movie!
Rating: Summary: satisfied my hunger for something different Review: I watched this in 2 sittings... enjoyed each half greatly... like an undergound comic come to life... its great the editor left a lot of the zombie assault stuff in... I'v seen to many movies with such huge budgets and over rated actors, over edited blockbusters with no meat to the story... I'd rather see a flick with people instead of actors anyday... and the music doesnt get in the way here either... watch this and realize anything is possible!
Rating: Summary: Crap with Dad's Camcorder Review: If I were ever to meet director Brian Clement. I'd tell him to give the camcorder back to his parents. And go back to film school. Ever since Clement has been spam posting all over the net, promoting his badly made, very low rent, oh so original zombie flick, I've wanted to see it. I figured it could at least be entertaining. The way fanboys(not to mention Clement) with no life go on about it you'd think it was the second coming in the realm of zombie films. Dawn of the Dead, the Italian zombie flicks, and the Resident Evil games, have been done, Brian. And Well. Don't keep charging for viewing them,if you can't take the criticism. Here's the plot, we follow a guy and a girl as they try and survive making they're way through George Romero land. Along the way they meet up with a Mexican wrestler and a trio of vampire chicks.Boring, did I mention VERY derivative? plotting.Godawful acting. Ludicrous in the extreme. But it has some decent gore effects. I'll give the film that much. Hence the one star.
Rating: Summary: well..... Review: Its not the best movie I've seen and the acting is rather sh@tty but I do respect it. Being his first film and on a very low budget he did good, I have a feeling Brian Clement will be directing some really good stuff further down the road.
