Rating: Summary: Me Again Review: By the way, my copy, which I ordered February 2002, has the introductory scene with Sasha in the winery.
Rating: Summary: C. Thomas Howell, Worst Actor Ever? Review: One can't imagine the joy I felt when I found out this series was released on DVD. No extras, no problem. I remember watching this when it came out on television and loving it. Now I am once again losing myself in the world of the Kindred. Except for when C. Thomas Howell disgraces the screen. I am a fan of bad acting, I love all Rudy Ray Moore movies, but the story and mood come to a screetching halt once Mr. Howell's scenes arrive. And... What does on call him in person? C. ??? C. Thomas??? This is besides the point. Get this series for the great story and the wonderful world it puts you into. Just be warned that C. Thomas Howell is in it.
Rating: Summary: Wanna be embraced anyone? Review: BE forwarned, there are no special features. No trailers, no interviews just eight bitin' hours of vampire drama. I love this show, I looked for these for a long time. If you like vampires, you'll like it's twists. If you like Vampire the Maskquerade, you'll like seeing the vampires brought to life...death....whatever. Anyway, BUY THESE
Rating: Summary: THE DARK KISS Review: I first found out about "Kindred: The Embraced" while surfing the web for information on RPGs. As I read more about the show itself, I discovered that it developed quite a strong fan base in a relatively short amount of time. My curiosity peaked, so I picked up the DVD set from a local Borders store and began watching it immediately. I ended up watching all eight episodes without interruption! The show was simply enthralling! From a mythos standpoint, the writers effectively created an interesting world in which the Kindred (known as vampires to the uninitiated) thrived while secretly coexisting with humans. The multilayered stories and complex characters were powerfully brought to life by the show's cast of virtually unknown actors. And the directing was much better than I thought it would be. It is a shame that the show did not get the network respect it truly deserved. I know there are "Vampire: The Masquerade" purists out there who will shun "Kindred: The Embraced" simply because it was only loosely based on Mark Rein-Hagan's work. But as a fan of the whole vampire thing, I feel that the DVD set is top-notch...right up there with Anne Rice's and Joss Whedon's work. I highly recommend this product.
Rating: Summary: Outstanding! Review: Kindred was an highly inventive and enjoyable series that didn't quite make it out that gate back in the mid 90s. It's based on the series of books (and roleplaying game) "Vampire: The Masquerade." One of the best things about the series is the wide variety of vampire types that exist in the series. You have the rich aristocrats, the goth punks, the disfigured monsters, the flamboyant Anne Rice artistic types. The whole gamut. I was disappointed that it didn't last. But I was delighted to find out that it was made into a DVD collection!
Rating: Summary: Very Delicious!, A Vampire can be Prince Charming! Review: Ahh! Yes there is such a thing as a romantic vampire movie!, besides Bram Stockers Dracula. I want to fall in love all over again with Julian Luna (Mark Frankel). Julian is Prince of the city, set in modern day San Fransico, leader of 5 vampire clans. The Kindred draws you into their world, with suspense, intrigue, and romance, leaving you spellbound!, wanting more. I especialy love the whole saga of Julian's slow courtship of Caitlan (Kelly Rutherford) a newpaper reporter. Their love finally ignites into firey passion in the last episode. I have been dying to get my hands on a copy of the show for years now. When I saw it on DVD I grabed it in my hands and bought it instanly! I really wish the show had lasted years instead of the few airings that appeared on FOX between May-June 1996. However my heart was absolutely broken to find out that only a few months after the show aired Mark Frankel was killed in a motercycle accident in London. Rest in peace, you are missed.
Rating: Summary: I miss this show Review: i remember when the show first came on, i was hooked, only of it to be on a short while. i found the Kindred the Embraced dvd's at Best Buy and picked them up. All of my friends (except for one) had never even heard of the show, and it didn't make any sense for me to try to explain it to them. Anywho. Love the DVD's and wonder if there will be any kind of redo for the show. With the hot young unknown stars out there i am sure the show would be as great a success as it was destined to be when it first came out. Rest in Peace Mark Frankel....you are sorely missed!
Rating: Summary: Quite good for T.V. Review: I think the show as a whole was quite good for T.V. Yes there were one or two episodes, I didn't care for. Many people think the series was canceled, because the show was not good enough to be a success. However there reason it was never renewed, was the untimely death of Mark Frankel i.e. Julian Luna. He was killed in a motorcycle accident in London shortly after he finished these six episodes. If you will notice when you watch the movies. They are dedicated to his memory.
Rating: Summary: Aims for two crowds, finds neither. Review: Aaron Spelling, Mark Rein-Hagen. The two should be mutually exclusive. I loved the original Vampire: The Masquerade RPG which formed the basis of this show. It's dark. It's gothic. Not "facial piercings and black make me Goth!" gothic, but "take an ordinary person, put them in extraordinary circumstances, and watch their decline from human to monster" gothic. HOW does "Beverly Hills, 90210" come to mind, here???? I mean, I can put up with poor acting. This is a little out-there to attract serious talent. Watered down setting? Sure, if the writers decide that they need to lose a clan or two in the translation to TV, I can tollerate that. But making it into a poor soap opera is unforgivable. I kept watching, hoping it'd pull through and come out well. I was sorely disappointed. There were times when I was impressed, when I could see that Mark finally got his way and said, "THIS is the flavor I'm shooting for" and didn't get stomped on. For those moments, I add a star.
Rating: Summary: Great set of Videos Review: These movies are based on the role-playing game (RPG) Vampire: The Masquerade by White Wolf. If you're a role-player, these movies are even more fun to watch than if you're not. Either way, the main characters are interesting and well-acted for the most part. The plot lines are pretty predictable, but they are well-done. The series does a very good job of make-up and special effects.
