Summary: not your ordinary vampire movie...
Review: This is a movie youll either love or hate. john carpenter does an excellent job at setting a good tone and delivers it in a hard edged gritty style. the script lacked some of the punch and feeling of the book and it didn't develop the characters very well,it also doesnt have the gothic flair of the typical hollywood vampire film but it did have a modern attitude of a no no holds barred, tense look at a very interesting theme the mood is great and the music good also the special effects are first rate. Also the western style camera work gives it a feeling reminiscent of some of the classic gunfight movies such as high noon, the good the bad and the ugly to name a few. I found it a very likable movie in the same vein as "dusk till dawn" and movies like that. it could have been a little more developed but overall it was a very enjoyable movie. the novel it was based on is a lot better but what movie ever lives up to the book. if your looking for a very enjoyable movie thats not your typical guy in silk running around acting like count dracula this is a very good movie. if on the other hand lots of martial arts action is your thing rent "blade"

Summary: Excellent start , bad finishing
Review: I haven't seen a vampire movie which starts and goes very well like this. But the end is very surprising for Carpenter fans. It should be more attractive and Valek ( Master Vampire ) shouldn't die very easily as to compare to his strength.

Summary: Ouch, my poor eyes!
Review: This was by far the worst Vampire move ever made. I am surprised that John Carpenter would be so broke as to put his name within 1000 miles of this film.

Summary: Vampires sucked.
Review: John carpenter owes me 4 bucks. There were NO special effects. Just some stuntwork. The trailer is the best part. The vampires can't fly, they are only as fast as humans, and only ONE of them posseses superhuman strenth. The main vampire has a whole 2 lines in the WHOLE stinkin movie. And those lines were just 3 words long. If yo uthink im lyeing find out for yourself. The action is kind of boreing. And when he stabs the vampires with steaks they STILL dont die until they are dragged into sunlight.... man this was a lame movie. If you want a cool vampire movie.. Buy blade.

Summary: weak story and annoying characters
Review: I was hoping for a lot more. James Wood was so unlikable that I was rooting for the vampires. Wesley Snipes presented a much more balanced hard-ass character in Blade. If Woods and Baldwin's characters weren't such jerks to everyone, I'd characterize their treatment of Sheryl Lee as misogyny; instead I'll just call it offensive.

Summary: ahhhh .. Decapatation & Vampires what more can you want?

Summary: The best Vampire movie I have ever seen.
Review: The start of the movie made the vampires look helpless against the slayers. Until Valek, the original master vampire, kills almost every slayer on the team at the SunGod motel. Valek was an unstoppable killing machine, this made the movie very interesting and fun to watch. It had a lot of blood and gore in the movie which also made it a great film. The only weakness in the movie was that Valek was killed. That would of never happened if Valek was real. Valek would of guessed the Jack Crow would try to stick him with the handle of the Black Cross. The only reason he died is because he never killed Jack Crow when he had the chance because he needed him in his exorism retual. The movie was awesome and Valek shouldn't of died, FINAL!!! (Even though he blew up) John Carpenter should have him come back in the sequal entitled: John Carpenter's Vampires II Valek returns

or something like that.

Summary: Cheesy but decent at times
Review: This movie had somewhat dull and cheesy dialog,a terrible villain,A stereotypical anti-hero,tough as nails, smart ass and just small name actors with the exception of James Woods. An example of cheesy and just plain stupid:Valek(the main baddie) kidnaps a Father and takes him to a wash, makes him show him a location on a paperbag map.Complete with a campfire!!! and decapitates the father? See what I mean?

Summary: Sexy and violent!
Review: Valek is by far the sexiest vampire to come along in ages. It's about time a vampire lost the "poor me, I'm soooo lonely and doomed" m.o. and truly used his intelligence and power. Though this film could use a better editing hand and despite the fact that Valek gets too few lines, the scene of the reverse exorcism where Valek is kneeling in prayer makes this film worth the price of admission. I saw it three times in it's too short theater run and I'm really hoping the VHS comes down in price ASAP!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A Kick-Ass Vampire Film!
Review: Didn't want to see this in a theatre. A friend dragged me to it and I was really surprised at how much I enjoyed it.

James Woods is great as is Sheryl Lee. Intentionally and gleefully offensive on all levels. So beware.

Never boring and the action is really well-staged.

Not as good as NEAR DARK but well done.
