Summary: Not bad if nothing else is on TV
Review: Jake Busey made a good attempt at playing psycho "Jack", but unable to capture the essence that Rutger Hauer portrayed in the original. It is a descent movie to watch when nothing else is on, but not of the same quality as the first. It had it's moments, of which the final showdown between Busey and Wuhrer was my favorite scene. Curiously, C. Thomas Howell revived his character from the original, only to be killed off early, leaving Kari Wuhrer to fend on her own. The better choice would have been to let Howell's character survive and continue the psychotic survival game with Busey. This wouldn't be a bad movie to rent but I wouldn't purchase it.

Summary: Decent flick
Review: Just finished watching The Hitcher II on DVD. I give it *** out of five
stars.Good homage to the original. What I liked about it: Kari Wuhrer - always solid. She almost made me like Sliders. Almost. Jake Busey - I was afraid he would give the same over-the-top performance as
in The Frighteners. Instead he was very subdued. He's no Rutger Hauer but he
came close to some of his daddy's more subdued roles. It didn't try to be more than it was. Just a homage, not really a sequel to
the great original film. Didn't over reach itself. What I didn't like about it: C. Thomas Howell - had a really poorly written role. I didn't mind them
turning the story over to Kari, but expected more maturety and self
confidence out of Howell's role after the way he had grown in the first
film. To have him scarred was fine but to have him afraid was out of
character.

Review: Oh GEE...I can't imagine WHY this movie went straight to DVD. Really pathetic, lacks everything that made the first so good. Go for a walk instead of watching this.

5 star = fantastic; must own it and share it with others THE STORY: Jim Halsey in an effort to face his nightmares from the first movie, travels back to Texas with his girlfriend. MY FEEDBACK:
1) C. Thomas' acting was the worst I've ever seen him and I've sat through some of his straight to cable/video B movies 2) Busey is just a likeable bad guy 3) Wuhuer is attractive and does a better acting job that the previous two 4) The cops are portrayed as hillbilly idiots. Too much of a stereotype that it felt like the writer just got lazy. 5) The killing scense weren't creative or suspensful. Better watch Friday the 13th part 85 if you want to see killing. 6) First 15 min and last 15 were the best part of the movie. Nice plot twists. OVERALL: Not the worst I've seen but definitely not even worth renting. If it comes on TV late at night and you are having insomnia...watch this and you'll be back to sleep in no time.

Summary: Cheapjack sequel to a classic thriller.
Review: The original 1986 "THE HITCHER" was a taut, horrific road movie. This film is a follow up in name only, and a pedestrian straight-to-DVD attempt to cash in on the reputation of the first film. A dull and tedious retread of the original story has the older kid from the first film being chased across Texas yet again by an unexplained Hitchhiker. The poor writing really shows in that all horror bits are just rip-offs of the sequences in the first film. Only C. Thomas Howell, who presumably needed the paycheck, returns in this one. Doing a "HITCHER" movie without Rutger Hauer is like doing an "ALIEN" film without Ripley. Instead of wasting your money on this junk, rent the terrific special edition of original "THE HITCHER" that just came out in Europe.

Summary: The Sequel That's All Thumbs
Review: The original Hitcher was released in 1986, to limited play in theaters, but over time and thanks to cable, gained new life. It was a taut psychological thriller that effectively creeped me out. Now comes the direct to home video/cable sequel, The Hitcher 2 - I've Been Waiting, that tries to recapture the spirit of the original. In the first film Rutger Hauer played a hitchhiker, picked up by a teen driving across country, who he then frames for a series of brutal killings. The rest of the film is great game of cat and mouse. For the sequel, Jim Halsey, (Played once more by C. Thomas Howell) is now a cop, still haunted by his past. In order to seek help from an old friend, Jim and his girlfriend Maggie (Kari Wuhrer) must ride out across the southwest. The nightmare begins again, when against Jim's better judgment, they stop to help a lone figure stranded on the side of the road. The Hitcher, (now played by a grinning Jake Busey) terrorizes the pair of travelers once more. Director Louis Morneau and his writers play off anyone's memories of the first film by just redoing the best parts of that movie. Howell is good when the film begins but is only taken so far and then taken out of it. Busey tries too hard to capture Hauer's take...but it just ends up a poor imitation instead.. It's implied that Busey may be the same character Hauer played--but never fully explained one way or another. All of these things combined are painfull to watch and make me wonder why the sequel was made at all. It's a shame and just elevates the original film even more. No extras are included on the DVD, which is probably a good thing, given the final film. I wouldn't admit I worked on the movie either. Avoid this and rent/buy the original instead

Summary: Lousy sequel to the original
Review: This straight to video fim cannot compare to the 1st-which was a classic with Roger Hauer-Jake Bussey (son of Gary Bussey) is just like his father-a typical B movie actor with limited range and acting ability. He was not at all scary-he was just too predictable. The movie did not explain the connection between Busey and Hauer (from the original) - and I thought that was a major part missing-C Thomas Howell is a great B movie actor and is fit for movies like this but---he was killed off way too early in this film and from that time on the film kind of went down hill after that. Rent it-bring it back to the store and forget it. I would like to get a hold of the special edition of the Hitcher that the reviewer from LA spoke of.

Summary: Floundering and unnecessary sequel to a classic
Review: Upon first look at the Hitcher 2, your first question will simply be, why? Why was this direct to video sequel to an 80's horror/suspense classic even green lighted? Who knows, but it shouldn't have been. Despite some relatively good stretches, for the most part the Hitcher 2, which retreads on the plot of the original, is a routine and predictable pot boiler. An older C. Thomas Howell returns as Jim, who is now a troubled cop trying to put his past behind him and go away for a little R&R with his girlfriend (Kari Wuhrer). Eventually, they come across a hitcher (Jake Busey) whom they pick up, and well, you know where this is going. Busey is good as a murdering psychopath who may or may not be Rutger Hauer's character from the original film, but Howell looks so bored in his brief return as Jim, and Wuhrer's acting abilities are wasted leaving her as eye candy (which isn't such a bad thing). The police force is presented here as ignorant hillbillies, a stereotype which the original Hitcher avoided, and the acting isn't anything to write home about either. Predictable until it's end, which actually does offer a few nice surprises, the Hitcher 2 is something which should have never been. Fans of the original will want to see this, but all others should avoid.
