Rating: Summary: The ultimate revenge movie!!! Review: This is the harrowing story of a novice female writer who spends some time in the country to work on a novel. All goes well until she is attacked and raped ( repeatably) by four bored hicks. Believing her to dead, they continue with their everyday lives as if nothing happened. Only she did'nt die and she's ready for revenge. The murders that follow are brutal, and deservably so, especially the castration in the bathtub! Over all a rather sadistic film that wont be to everyone's liking, but I quite liked it!!!
Rating: Summary: I Spit on Your Grave-The Worst movie ever made. Review: Camille Keaton plays a writer who moves to the country, to finish a new book. Soon after moving, she is abducted by four men (one is retarded) and gang raped. After she apparently escapes, she is attacked and raped again, and again, and again. When the rapist's blunder, and decide to send the retarded man to kill her, and he chicken's out, we are now left to see the second half of this horrible trash, her revenge on the four men. What is so disturbing about this film, is that is considered by many to be a cult classic. Okay: why didnt Keaton just call the police, she is left for dead, and dosen't decide upon revenge, until after she see's two of the men week's later. In one scene she seemingly kill's one of the men, with an axe to the back, even at a glance, the average viewer can see that the scene shot, was done by someone hitting a plaster type substance, with the axe. Trying hard to come off as a feminist wake up calling, I Spit On Your Grave, simply fall's on it's terrible cover story, which is (soft core-trash).Want a good rape revenge flic? Try (Ms.45)
Rating: Summary: Make your own judgment. Review: This one, along with Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, is one of the most provocative cinematic experiences I have undergone. Revile it for its crudity and flinch at its relentless violence, but you'd have to admit this film succeeds all the way in provoking some kind of response from its audience. Personally I find I Spit on Your Grave much less exploitative than it could have been. Firstly, take into account that the entire story is filmed from a neutral perspective while privileging the point of view of Jennifer. Secondly, note its subtle but deeply angered treatment at how a good-hearted, friendly woman is destroyed, reborn as a sadistic avenger lacking in heart and painfully unaware of what she's become. The final shot is simple brilliance, a more apt observation on Jennifer's character change and saying much more than a direct, moralizing title card could have (eg. Howard Hawks' Scarface). Finally, this film's most commendable (and perhaps contentious) point is its treatment of the men, the perpetrators of the original crime. Although animalistic in their brutality and at times grotesquely macho, the men's overall portrayal does not relegate them to pure villainy. We see moments of vulnerability, humanity (Stanley's relationship to Johnny is especially fascinating, thanks to Aron Tabor's multilayered performance) and even sympathy. None of which excuses them from their crime, as the film watches their humiliation and destruction with as unflinching an eye as it had Jennifer's suffering at their hands. This is essential viewing for anybody interested in feminism in film, and the rape-revenge genre. (Both The Accused and the lesser-known French drama L'Amour Viole/The Rape of Love borrowed liberally from I Spit on Your Grave's stance on male bonding and gang rape.) People interested in analyzing this film can also refer to Carol Clover's Men, Women and Chain Saws, which contains one of the few fair-minded assessments of this film untainted by the controversy of the film's social context. Once you're prepared for the violence and extreme human behaviour in this film, you'll find much to think about.
Rating: Summary: THIS IS THE COOLEST FILM Review: I had been trying to get this film for a long time and when i finally did, i thought it was a cool movie. I only recommend this film to horror/gore/revenge film lovers. I myself am a fan of horror/gore movies and i think it is great.
Rating: Summary: Read about it! Review: Hey, read my discussion of this film (and others like it) in Men, Women, and Chain Saws (Chapter Three: "Getting Even") Meir Zarchi says it boosted sales and rentals appreciably. --Carol J. Clover
Rating: Summary: DON'T COUNT THIS ONE OUT!!! Review: Violence aside, this film is quite well made and very mature. There is no black comedy here like we get in many other films of this genre. The acting is decent, especially from one of the lead actors named Eron Tabor. The film leaves no giant message or lessons, but it takes itself seriously...as I said, no comedy or black humor. If you do not like this genre of film, do not watch. On the contrary, if you do enjoy mature well acted films with very violent events portrayed, this movie is well worth the cost...and, it is a neat late-night movie that you can pop into your DVD player and just unwind with. Rating: Summary: Nasty but AWESOME! Review: I Spit on your Grave is probably one of the sickest films I've seen in awhile. Early in the film you get to hate the men so that makes the ending easier to watch. OUCH! I'm afraid of bubbles now! BUY THIS ONE PEOPLE!
