Summary: A remarkable vision
Review: Sleepy Hollow is a beautiful, beautiful horror film. It is a pretty good horror film except for the various points of comic relief that plague the movie. Johnny Depp's character is excentric at finding the headless horseman but he is too much of a clutz to take seriously. This humor hurts the films in parts where it should be scary, making you wonder if you should laugh or scream.

The Art Direction simply puts any complaints I have about this film to shame. It is wonderful. Director Tim Burton has created the ultimate halloween type atmosphere. I couldn't think of anyone better to direct this film.

The DVD has a 30 min documentary, photos, trailers, and a commentary. A well put-together DVD.

Although cheesy at times, this is an very good film with a strong story and EXCEPTIONAL art direction. This is where director Tim Burton shines once again.

Summary: A Superb DVD for a Superb Movie
Review: First of all, I think it is a shame people were led to believe that this was supposed to be a horror movie. It isn't. It's just a fun, exciting film by a director who stands out among his peers with a remarkably individual take on flim-making. It's a smart, funny, energetic movie that kept my eyes glued to the action through four sittings in a theater, and recently two more on DVD. Which brings me to the DVD itself. The film itself is flawlessly transferred into DVD format. The sound and picture are beautiful and crystal clear. One of DVD's greatest assets is the extras that are often available. This one has no shortage. There is an interview with cast and crew, as well as a "Making Of" documentary, and both trailers. The optional french language track is fun to listen to, but the real treat is the director commentary. Tim takes great pleasure in ragging good-naturedly on his own film, and also gives wonderful insight into the process. He was always amusing, and he reveres his actors very much. Most Burton fans know that Tim is an actor's director, and that really shows through. His cast is made up from the quality performers of the American and Brittish stage. The five town elders could have been boring side characters, but they were brought to colorful realization by superb performers with artfully charismatic faces. It's a great movie, well worth putting down money for. I reccomend it to any Burton fan, or anyone who just enjoys watching a good flick. Loved it.

Summary: Thought it should be better..
Review: Well, i was really excited to see this when it came out on DVD and it is beautiful to watch as others mention but the storytelling was flat and unsuspenseful. It could have been much, much better but i felt that it was unravelling more like an Agatha Christie novel than a more visceral, Modern re-telling of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

Summary: Blew me away!
Review: I don't think I have actually ever seen anyone give this bad marks. How can you with over-excellent special effects, art direction, story, direction, costumes and casting! It is impossible to dislike!

For your information Sleepy Hollow is my 2nd favourite movie and is becoming very close to been my favourite no. 1.

I am anything but a Johnny Depp fan, but he deserves an Academy Award nominaation for his role as Ichabod Crane, a small-town counstable who has been sent to investigate the decapiting murders of the town of Sleepy Hollow!

You'll scream, you'll laugh, you'll have fun! Don't miss "Sleepy Hollow" - the best film of 1999!

Summary: A modern masterpiece!
Review: Since I wasn't able to see this film in theaters, I was counting the days until this movie came out on VHS. When I rented it, I was astounded! This film is an instant classic, highlighted by phenomeonal acting from Johnny Depp, Christana Ricci, and Michael Gough. I couldn't have imagined a better Ichabod Crane than Johnny Depp. Tim Burton has brought this literary masterpiece to life in a thrilling and suspenseful film. Highly recommended!

Summary: Hold on to your heads!
Review: When Tim Burton's name is on a movie, you know you're in for something else. As is the case with Sleepy Hollow.

This might seem like a horror movie, but it's actually more like morbid satire. With his usual sense of visuals, Burton tells the story of the haunted town of Sleepy Hollow with great expertise and lots of subtle humour. All actors do terriffic jobs. Christina Ricci is wonderful as always, and I enjoyed all the near-cameo appearances by actors such as Marin Landau. And then there's Johnny Depp. The man carries the whole movie on his shoulders in his absolutely outstanding performance as the insecure and yet brilliant constable Ichabod Crane. Depp displays countless subtle facial expressions that really makes his character come to life. And everything else, from his voice to the way he moves is beyond words. One of the best performances I've ever seen! That's why I award this movie five stars. The script itself doesn't really deserve more than four.

Be advised, though. If you want to see a really scary horror movie, this is not for you. The same goes if you happen to think that decapitations and humour don't belong together.

Burton keeps surprising me. Sleepy Hollow might not be his greatest movie yet, but it's certainly the funniest. And Johnny Depp is still developing his talent. This is the third Burton film Depp has starred in, and I hope it won't be the last.

Summary: Stylist darkness
Review: Tim Burton has done it again and created a moody masterpiece. Depp is delightful as the delicate and scarred Icabod and Ricci is deliciously radiant as young Miss Von Tassel. I enjoyed the beautiful historical recreations, but be warned. The gore is in effects and many beheading are depicted. A rewarding experience.

Summary: Visually Stunning, but Leaves Me Flat
Review: I feel about Sleepy Hollow just as I do many of Tim Burton's movies. The cinematography is there, the costumes are there, the music is there, the action and pacing are there--but Burton gives me nothing that makes me care one way or another about these characters.

Great characterization is, to me, what separates the truly great movies from those that are merely mechanically proficient. It's like listening to a virtuoso guitarist who does not have any soul or feeling in his music. You can marvel at his technical proficiency, and you have to respect the dedication and hours of practice, but if the music doesn't move you, what's the point?

This is what I felt like after seeing Sleepy Hollow. Burton gave me nothing that made me care whether any of the characters lived or died. The characters are merely props to move the story along. I'm not saying every character has to be likable, but rather the director/writer/actor must make me care one way or the other. I will say that an exception to this rule was Mars Attacks, which was a ridiculous comedy farce that I loved--character is not so much of an issue in that type of a movie. Given that characterization is Burton's weak point, Mars Attacks was a great type of movie for Burton because of the lack of a requirement for characterization.

That said, I know that there are lots of people who love Tim Burton's movies, and I have a great deal of respect for Burton's work, but if you are the type of person, like me, who requires great characters to pull you into a movie, Sleepy Hollow might not be for you. If you've liked lots of Burton's other movies, though, then you'll most likely love this one too. It certainly is well executed.

Summary: Not your parents Sleepy Hollow but it's a magical retelling.
Review: It's not your parents Sleepy Hollow and it's even geared twords a younger audience by making the film , more complex a bigger story line the films dark and gothic look makes Sleepy Hollow look more poetic then it's predeccesors your caught up in world of intruge and nightmareish visuals obviously Tim Burton loves this style and wich it's exactly right Sleepy Hollow is sposed to be a dark gothically spooky place and the story of Icabad Crane and the Headless Horseman is captured just exactly right you are caught up in a world of mystery and intruige.

But you are mesmorized from the time you put this movie in you DVD player to the time you take it out , incredible visual effects and CGI for the Headless Horseman.Fantastic effects eerie visuals and a fun movie to watch Tim Burton has done it again this time on a classic and now Sleepy Hollow will never die with this version it's and awsome DVD with alot of options and can keep you very busy a stunning epic film that is not afraid to tell this story graphically.

Review: I don't care what anyone says this was one goooooood movie. First, there are good actors all the way through. Especially the horse! CUTE! I loved how the horsemans teeth were filed to points because it made him look remarkably pirhanna like. I had an excellent time watching this at the theatre because it keeps you on the edge of your seat. I thought wimpy Ichobod was great! Me n my friends were laughing our heads off! De-Cap-I-Tate-Ed! HEE HEE! We were trying so hard to guess the ending but we were off by a mile. Overall it's a great movie with wonderful costumes, GREAT acting and a surprise villain. It deserves more than 5 stars!
