Rating: Summary: A Horrible, Horrible Movie Review: Sleepaway Camp was another ... of the horror craze that Friday The 13th started. It's a routine and horrible slashfest. The sequels, which went towards black comedy, are awful. But they are fun and entertaining and, at times, hilarious. There is nothing good about this one though.
Rating: Summary: A note on the commentary track... Review: GREAT FLICK!!!!! But there is only one commentary track for all three contributors (and I use that term loosely, as another viewer pointed out). It has a lot of funny little bits by the star and director, but the scenes that I wanted to hear about the most were ignored by the director (even when asked about them by the moderator). Disappointing commentary, but a great Summer Camp horror flick that I am pleased and proud to have in my collection. Okay, Anchor Bay, let's see STREET TRASH, MY BLOODY VALENTINE, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME, or even RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Unhappy campers - happy watchers Review: Just sit down by campfire and listen...The wind in the trees speaks another story from the golden eighties. We shall come to Camp Arawak, where the shadow of accidentfrom the past is still alive. And Angela, sweet girl,is not so innocent as she looks...From the old good times comes another horror movie, not the best, but still very good.Of course, especially the shocking end you will never forget.Robert Hiltzik breaking with it one of the last taboo in horrors/innocence of childrens/.
Rating: Summary: SHOCKER!!! Review: Wow, what a great surprise, thanks Amazon for making this available. Having nearly worn out my copy of the VHS version I am happy to see that one of the quirkiest and best films of its genre is now out on DVD. Everyone loves this film and judging by all of the new websites dedicated to SC, new audiences are drawn to it daily. The story is simple, a girl (Angela) goes to camp, many kids are mean to her and they begin to die, one by one. The cast is your typical mix of young, cute, obnoxious boys and girls. The killings are highly imaginative and the look and sound solid for a film from the early eighties. Everyone suspects that Angela's foul mouthed brother Ricky is the killer, but are they in for a MAJOR Surprise as the true killer is revealed at the end!
Rating: Summary: Horror Classic Review: I first saw this movie when I was about 12, and pretty much just thought it was kinda gross and scary. After seeing it again about 6 months ago, at the age of 19, I started to pick up on all the really weird gender bending issues that set this movie apart from typical horror. There are several homosexual undertones, from Angela's father and his gay lover, to Angela's aunt, who seems a little manly (I could have sworn the director was trying some kind of Hitchcock vertigo thing with this one). And of course the finale, which tops it all off. What also makes this movie unique is the fact that only one killing actually involves blood (in the commentary director Robert Hiltzik explains he found blood to be gratuitous). As for the DVD, it looks great, and sounds great. The commentary is pretty good, Felissa Rose does a good job pointing out all the trivia. Robert Hiltzik on the other hand, was pretty elusive about everything, which was pretty annoying. The trailer is hysterical, typical 1980's.
Rating: Summary: Best Movie of All Time Review: Bad acting + Thick New Yawk accents + cheap sets + silly dialogue + the most shocking surprise ending since The Sixth Sense = one of the most hilariously entertaining movies of all time. Thank you so much Anchor Bay for rereleasing this movie...I hadn't seen it in years. OK on to the movie. Sleepaway Camp starts out with a father taking his two young children out boating one sunny afternoon. Suddenly another boat hits the family killing the father and one of the children. Years later, we see it is Angela who survived the accident and is now living with her aunt(who seems like she's on some drugs) and her foul mouthed, charming cousin Ricky. Ricky and Angela head off to summer camp, where a campers start getting murdered. Is the killer Ricky? Angela? Their friend Paul? or that B$tc! Judy?Sleepaway Camp shouldn't be taken seriously, and is one of my favorite movies of all time.
Rating: Summary: Standard Horror Movie Review: After hearing a lot of things about this movie on the internet, I went out and rented it. I was highly disappointed with this movie. "Sleepaway Camp" is virtually a rip-off of Friday the 13th. Angela and her cousin Ricky go to camp. Once there, Angela is harrassed non-stop for the entire run of the movie, mostly by the self-centered Judy and the counseler Meg. Then, predictable enough, people start dying. And we're talking low grade deaths. A guy is drowned in a lake, a woman is hacked up with a knife and a group of kids are diced up with a hatchet. The only and I mean only original death is that thing with the curling iron. You know that had to hurt. Then let's not forget "the shock ending". Can someone PLEASE tell me what is so shocking about this ending? I must have missed something while I was keeled over from laughing. "Sleepaway Camp" is just another slasher movie with very few original things to offer. Why not see something that IS original? Like the original "Halloween" or the original "Psycho".
Rating: Summary: A Cheesy Horror Classic Review: I didn't expect anything great when I bought this movie. I expected a run of the mill slasher movie. Boy, was I in for a shock! If there's one thing this movie's NOT, it's run of the mill. It's quite possibly the quirkiest horror film I have ever seen. The characters are delightfully strange and the plot is quite unique, despite the generic setting of the film. But what really makes this film worth it is the ending... the BEST ENDING in horror history, no doubt about it. Highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: hilarious Review: this is a great movie. not really scary, but it's actually very, very good. all horror fans should watch this. it's about these kids who go to camp, they're getting killed...who did it? im not gonna reveal anything, BUT SEE THE ENDING!! IT'S THE BEST ENDING OF A MOVIE EVER.....EVEN IF YOU HATE HORROR MOVIES...SEE THE ENDING, YOU'LL BE SOOO HAPPY YOU DID! So enjoy....
