Summary: For The Musical Score Alone!
Review: A classic bewildering tale of suspense and intrigue! I had to wait years before I first saw this on cable television, and now having seen it many times over since and being in the incredible age of DVD-ROMS I can at last enjoy one of the best horror films on my Desktop while working. My purchase was based mainly on the incredible musical score however with Erasure covering a sublime version of "Magic Moments". Also I'm a huge Scott Bakula Fan and for the life of me (in my dreams) would just go crazy if Clive Barker were to make a sequel. If you haven't seen it, rent it, pop some popcorn, chill the A&W and invite friends over. Good the first time, gets better every time.

Summary: Clive Barker has done it again.
Review: A top thriller with a good cast.Would definitely like to see Mr. Bakula in more movies like this. Had some definitely good special effects without going overboard. Especially liked the score to the film as a good score always adds a certain eerieness to the movie itself. All actors for the parts they played made you either like or dislike them. Highly recommended for the person who likes this sort of genre in a movie.

Review: A tres typical "horror" movie. Not my thing. Unless you enjoy weirdness to the n'th degree, skip this. I still can't believe Bakula agreed to act in this one.

Summary: Dweet of Illusions!!!
Review: A wonderful movie with spectacular dialouge and effects. One of the best lines written came from this movie, "I was born to murder the world." The story is amazing, but it's Cliver Barker so what do you expect. The commentary track is also informative and very cool deleted scenes are included. If you are a fan of this movie you NEED to buy it on DVD. Obviously everything is better, but you finally get a 5.1 mix, commentary, deleted scenes, WIDESCREEN, and an isolated music score. I am very pleased with this DVD and would recommend it to any Clive Barker fan. That's all I have to say about that.

Summary: Amazing movie
Review: As before, Clive Barker's imaginative dreams conjured up another horrific epic. Let me start by admitting I love Barker's work. As a little boy I once saw Hellraiser and I got hooked by it's intelligence. Barker doesn't as much try to gross you out as he tries to grip into fears hidden deeper in our subconscious. This movie is definitely totally different from previous movies but the master's touch is recognisable nonetheless. What I like most about the movie is that it doesn't seem to have one main character. You cannot tell if the movie is about a private eye, trying not to kill himself in another occult case, a magician who got tired of life in the spotlight, or an occult cult and their leader. This all gives interesting plot opportunities. The movie is quite graphic, but never nearly so much that it all ends up being another splatter flick. The directors commentary by Clive Barker himself was my main purchase incentive. I already owned the movie on VHS but I am happy to say that the higher quality of the DvD and it's extras proved worthy of disposing of the worn VHS I had.

Review: Awful, I hated it. It had the worst acting, special effects, direction, everything. I wanted to exterminate my television after watching this garbage. Please, I don't know why I beg movie producers and directors to stop making trash [movies]this. A cop (Bakula) tries to uncover the murder of a famous magician who is also evil. The cop falls in love with the magician's wife (Janssen) and all hell breaks loose, even in my living room. I need to watch Van Damme instead.

Review: Based on his short story "The Last Illusion", Clive Barker helmed this adaption entitled Lord of Illusions, and offers up a good amount of shocks, scares, gore, and a near excellent plot; a combination that made one of Barker's previous films, the original and classic Hellraiser, such a great horror film. Scott Bakula (TV's Quantum Leap, now he's famous for TV's Enterprise) stars as private detective Harry D'amour, and he gets involved with a bizarre case involving a magician (Kevin J. O'Connor) who years before had killed prophet and mentor Nix (played to perfection by Daniel Von Bargen). However, Nix has seemingly been resurrected, and he and his followers have plans on the destruction of the world. Just about everything about Lord of Illusions is great: the visual effects and Barker's direction and storytelling are great, but there are some plot holes and now and then some crummy acting (courtesy of the beautiful Famke Janssen), but for the most part Lord of Illusions is a great horror film from one of the great masters of horror. The film has gained quite a cult following over the years, and MGM realized this and packed the DVD with some great extras including a commentary by Barker, an isolated music score (most of the music is absolutely creepy and sets a perfect tone), and some never before seen scenes as well.

Summary: Underrated noir thriller/horror
Review: Based on his short story 'The Last Illusion' and blending hard-boiled detective action with a supernatural thriller, Clive Barker serves up an interesting allegory on the nature of magic versus illusion, and ultimately, good versus evil. The film is a hybrid of sorts between a noir thriller and straight up horror. And it was this blend that doomed the film at the box office. United Artists simply did not know how to market Lord of Illusions. However, it has slowly built up a decent cult following. With the B-Movie performances, graphic horror and a totally sinister villian in the form of a cult leader named Nix (Daniel von Bargen), it's not difficult to understand why. Thankfully, Illusions has been given a director's preferred cut release on a great looking DVD, where people can finally see this underrated genre film.

Summary: An Terrific Film With Great Make-Up Effects.
Review: Clive Barker did a good job on this film, is well directed and writting also. I seen this film in a theatre, which was fun to watch on a big screen. Then a saw a different version, include 12 minutes of additional footage, i didn`t know the different but the new scene, i saw in a Director`s Cut was The Cult Member came back to their sick sense, killing their wife, families or thier boss at work. Am looking forward on the DVD version, Include-Audio Commentary From Clive Barker, The Director`s Cut of the film and Music Track also, you don`t need to buy the Sound Track, when you got it on DVD. Grade:B+.
