Review: ...P>APRIL FOOL'S DAY still impresses with relatively high production values and decent performances, especially given the genre and budget. Deborah Foreman especially shines and it's a pity she didn't have much, much more screen time. As it stands, the enigmatic Muffy is tragically absent for most of the film. Director Fred Walton makes the most of the material but never approaches the moments of near-genius he displayed in both WHEN A STRANGER CALLS... films. Like those films, however, APRIL FOOL'S DAY suffers a bit as the storyline rambles and wanders at the exact points when it should be taut and precise and far too much screen time is devoted to inane chatter and excessive crude sexual innuendo, even for a teen slasher.For all its now-predictable twists and turns, APRIL FOOL'S DAY still fails to thoroughly entertain the veteran horror fan. Gore is almost entirely absent from the film, as is nudity, which could help to qualify it as a fun outing for younger fans of thrillers were it not for the sidebars of consistently lewd dialogue. APRIL FOOL'S DAY also suffers now that we've entered the post-SCREAM era. In 1986, no other horror film had really toyed with the slasher film conventions. Nowadays, though, it comes off as a tired exercise. And one with no payoff. The "twist" ending is a twist only for the most naive of viewers and the requisite "second surprise ending" is no surprise at all. Even a darker turn on the final scene couldn't have saved APRIL FOOL'S DAY, but it could have perhaps maintained its status as I film I'd like to remember rather than one I'd now like to forget.

Review: When the trailers first came out for April Fools Day, they were accompanied by the song "Momma Told Me Not To Come" by Three Dog Night. I wasn't sure if it was a slasher movie, a comedy, a comedy-slasher movie, or even a frat-party movie. All I knew for sure was that Deborah Foreman (Valley Girl)was in it and in the mid-80's I thought she was so hot you could have cast her in a high school driving safety video and I would have paid admission. Foreman plays Muffy, a rich college kid who invites a bunch of friends to a secluded island owned by her family for a weekend (an April Fools weekend) of fun and pranks. The island is only reachable by ferry and this is the last ferry until monday. An accident happens and the kids are shaken. Here is where the mind games start. Not many of the young people know each other. All are supposedly friends of Muffy, but most of them don't know each other directly. April fools pranks are played non-stop. Dribble glasses, collapsing chairs, and newspaper clippings about dark events. Wait a second...newspaper clippings? Is someone playing a joke, or is this real? There is the hook. Severed heads, rattlenakes, and Muffy's slow transformation from college beauty to frumpy borderline personality disorder mix evenly with dirty tricks and foolish pranks. What is real? How much danger is everyone in? There is no argument that April Fools Day was riding in on the wave of 80's slasher films, but that is where the similarity to other genre movies ends. You really have to think at this one. They really want to you ask yourself "is this all a joke?" and "could anyone have actually survived that?" I have to give some credit to the music for setting up some great tension. It adds to the feel without taking you out of the moment. If you have not seen this film but you have a friend that has, don't let them tell you any of it's dark secrets. Enjoy.

Review: This sly little film, with all of its cunning little tricks
needs at least a commentary track from someone! If these actors never achieved anything in their brief careers, at least they have this film to put on their resumes. Fred Walton and writer Danilo Bach lead the the viewer on a standard 80's slasher-fest, then pull the rug out from under everything we've just seen. April Fool's indeed. Come on Paramount, I still have hope for you even after all of your bad DVD releases, with so few extras. Please do your best this time.

Summary: One of the great holiday slasher movies
Review: Another spin off on halloween. This holiday slasher flick is about a bunch of college friends spending the weekend on a remote island at one of their friends house(the only house on the island..no ferries on the weekend...DAMM). They all start playing pranks on each other until things start to go wrong and bodies start to turn up(sort of). Very cool horror movie. A very twisted ending. Watch this movie alone in the dark. you wont be disappointed

Review: A group of College Kids (Amy Steel, jay Baker, Griffen O`Neal, Thomas F. Wilson, Ken Olandt, Leah Pinsent, Deborth Goodrich, Clayton Rohner) are invited to a mansion on a Desolate Island by a Rich Girl named Muffy St. John (Deborth Foreman), then the fun starts when they play Pracitial Jokes and then it`s turns into Murder. This entertaining comedy thriller has memorable moments of excitement and chills. Directed by Fred Walton (When a Starnger Calls) shows style and a great time with the Cast, Familiar but Very Fun. Panavision. Grade:B+.

Summary: Poor man's 'And Then There Were None' with twist.
Review: A group of college students head out for a supposedly fun filled weekend with a rich friend at her isolated summer home and get more than they bargained for when a serial killer suddenly begins bumping them off, little doll replicas of the guest turned victim disappearing after each murder as well (an in-joke to Agatha Christie's knock 'em off one by one murder mystery 'And Then There Were None', aka 'Ten Little Indians'). Just a poor man's witty slasher/mystery movie with a twist ending that, if you read the title literally, is pretty guessable, and insulting. You're better off sticking with the real thing.

Summary: Buffy or Muffy?
Review: I'll be honest, it's been years since I've last seen this. But I can recall renting it a bunch of times and enjoying it each time. Sure it's not horror at it's finest. Actually, I wouldn't even classify it as horror. More like a suspense or mystery film. But it is quite a clever and ingenius flick. The ending will surprise you, and then you'll have to watch it again once you know what's really going on. It's not deep, it's not mind boggling, and it probably won't appeal to older generations but it's fun. Definitely a good vid for a rainy weekend. Grab your bud or significant other, curl up on the couch and watch it. It's good ol' 80's fun. Gotta love the 80's...

Review: This movie totally sucked. The popcorn I was eating was more fascinating. It was stupid with a bunch of sex jokes blink-182 could top in a day. This is horror? Horribly bad attempt at trying to be funny and scary at the same time.
