Summary: Why?
Review: I generally credit myself with being able to sit through just about any movie. But this was boring! I dig bloody horror movies, but they still need to be interesting. I'll give the lead actress some recognition; she did the best with the script that was given to her.

Summary: Yes Virginia, There Really Is A Candyman...
Review: Virginia Madsen is perfect as the driven researcher, trying to find out the history of a modern, urban boogeyman called CANDYMAN. She is fearless in her obsession with him and knows no limits in getting the story. This includes searching through the crumbling catacombs of the infamous Cabrini Green housing project. This is ultimately her undoing, as the Candyman turns out to be real, and doesn't like her lack of respect. He begins to mess with her life in nasty ways, framing her for horrible crimes, while luring her deeper into a cat and mouse game with life shattering consequences. Tony Todd is Candyman. His voice is even scarier than his hooks for hands! This movie is disturbing because you don't know what extremes he'll go to, or what he'll do next. He's supernatural and not afraid to destroy a person in order to get their attention! Madsen's character goes into a downward spiral that made me cringe, and all she really did was doubt the Candyman's existence. He's one frightening guy! A gruesome masterpiece. Watch this one alone in the dark...

Summary: they tried to make art but made something different
Review: You have to like a movie that rips off from the artiest movie of them all, Koyannasqatsi (my video guidebook says Phillip Glass did the music and you can tell if you know "Koy..."). Its a cheesily pretentious fun movie, but its not very scary or eeire. It proves that Clive Barker really doesn't know how to scare anyone, but his movies are still ok... way better than Jason X !

Summary: not so good
Review: its very boring,it aint as good as i thought it would have been.
the best part of it is definitely how it ends.the public light a pile of wood on fire to kill the candyman but helen is in there aswell.hellen gets killed and then her X-husband goes upto the mirror to repeat her name 5 times then hellen comes to kill him.
its not so realistic but its better than hellraiser 4 and upwards. ive tried to call the candyman and in the film they call his name 5 time then turn the lights out then he comes to kill you. the legend is quite interesting but the film is pretty boring, and disappointing.i bought it because it looked good and at first it was ok but wen you watch it more than once it gets sort of boring.

Summary: Teenage fav, but reserved for that age bracket.
Review: Tony Todd is a great actor. There is my one good thing to say about this film. Since the DVD offers nothing spectacular all you can talk about is the movie itself. There are next to no features. Despite the hype, I know I'm gonna get drilled for this one, Candyman isn't a very good movie. The words "intelligent" and "horror movie" seldom share the same sentence. It's like the two words are at war with each other. This movie can be called "classic horror" in the respect it holds to the grand tradition of horror being poorly thought out and an excuse to weave a poor storyline around violence and gore. The character of Candyman is strongly born out of the Bloody Mary urban legends and given a polished politically correct melanin increase. He has a hook and an army of bees to assist his terrorizing of the rundown urban community that is the focus of this film. This first film doesn't give his character any depth and later films we are almost glad they didn't. Candyman just isn't very scary. Malevolent spirit in a mirror sounds like a good idea. It prys upon people's fear of mirrors. This has been a popular literary well to draw from because it is such a popular phobia, but Candyman just does it very poorly.

Summary: One of the better horror films to come out of the 90's
Review: Based on Clive Barker's short story "The Forbidden"; Candyman is a surprisingly taut, scary, and refreshing horror film and one of the better horror films to come out of the 90's. Believed to be an urban legend (you say his name five times in front of a mirror and he is supposed to appear), a researcher (Virginia Madsen) soon learns that there is some truth to the legend when she investigates a murder. Director Bernard Rose manages to keep most of the violence off screen and keep the suspense mounting (with the help of the excellent and chilling score by Philip Glass) without the story lagging (something many horror films of the early through late nineties had a problem doing) and for the most part Candyman does justice to Barker's story thanks to all I mentioned above plus the performances of Madsen and genre favorite Tony Todd as the hook handed killer. All in all, Candyman is a more than solid horror film that is definitely worth checking out.

Summary: Clive Barker- The man who gave you hellraiser, is back!
Review: The producer Clive Barker, the man who chilled you to the bone with Hellraiser has returned with another tale. CANDYMAN! The urban legend about a colored man who was called "candyman" who was hated in a little town, was killed by getting stung by bees, the people rubbed honey all over his body to attract them, and the kids called him candyman. The tale is known that if you dare say his name 5 times in a mirror he shall come to you and kill you with his hook. But the tale is all around the city, but a woman who teaches kids does not believe the story especially saying his name 5 times in a mirror, her students tell her not to becuase candyman will really come, oh what a surprise! She invites her boyfriend over for dinner and Candyman arrives too, while she was washing her hands, then candyman kills her boyfriend and she begind to believe the tale! FEAR CANDYMAN!!!!!
