Summary: Surprisingly Good For Straight To Video
Review: It took me over a year to watch this video after I bought it. The "direct to video" thing scared me off. I am a huge hellraiser fan; a Clive Barker fan in fact. I really enjoy the worlds he creates, and what other people have been able to do with his vision.

My favorite works of his have always been the Nightbreed and Hellraiser series. Back in the late 80's, Clive licensed out the creative right for Hellraiser to Epic Comics, and several up and coming writers (Mike Mignola, Neil Gaiman, etc.) would write fantastic short stories based on the Hellraiser rhelms. These stories would always have a demented twist or sense of irony along the lines of Twilight Zone or Creepshow.

That is what "Hellraiser: Inferno" reminds me of. A really good short story. An episode or Tales From the Darkside or Twilight Zone. I'll warn you now, you get only one or two minutes of Pinhead or any other cenobites; so if that's what you're after, you're bound to be disappointed. The Hellraiser story has always been about the box, and the effect it has on those who find it...or who it finds :)

I don't really get the "direct to video" sense of cheapness from this film. The film quality is fine, the acting in good (the main character is played by Craig Scheffer, who also played Boone in "Nightbreed"!), and the effects are gory enough for a Hellraiser movie. It was probably on a budget, but they worked well within those constraints to produce a pretty good movie.

Summary: Well I absolutley loved it
Review: I have sat in front of the tv as long as color came to air.I am happy to say that i have grown up with hellraiser over the years and to my knowledge the 5th chapter to the hellraiser legacy is by far certinally one of the best.

GOLD medal going to the original HELLRAISER
SILVER medal to the great sequal HELLBOUND H2
BRONZE and in 3rd place (in no shock to most)H5 INFERNO..

the only 3 u will ever need without the disapointment.

certanly clive barker was scared to take up the challenge of making a 5th film due to his poor efforts with hell on earth and bloodline,(i mean common pin head in space ??)
"i guess i can say that mr barke will remain in his own version of hell."

Summary: A horrible movie not even directed by the original director
Review: This movie is horrible, the legacy of the whole hellraiser series is left behind int his movie, everytime someone opens the box the cenobites have to be sent back to hell or else they remain on earth, this movie never shows you what happens after the box is opened, instead something stupid happens, and suddenly pinhead is just interested with one person for no reason at all, my advice, whoever directed this movie, you should stop right now...

Summary: Pinhead is back to being the lead cenobite like he should!
Review: What is to be said about the fifth installment of Hellraiser?Simply that Pinhead is back to how he was in the first and second movies. The third movie made Pinhead into this Iconic Horror movie slasher with all this one-liners.Pinhead to me was only suppose to be a backdrop he was meant to be mysterious and suspicious. He seemed more frightning when he was only shown vividly. So in this I commend Hellraiser:Inferno!

Summary: A Fresh and Interesting detour
Review: Let me say that I enjoyed this film. Pinhead plays an important role in this movie as the ultimate judge of Joseph, a corrupt detective. The concept of the engineer is hightened in this film, yet as Joseph's partner ironically points out "There is no engineer, there's just you." In other words, Joseph is living in his own personal hell, he is just does not know it yet.He is in charge of creating his own hell for himself.

The story of this movie and how many of the lines forshadow upcoming events is quite interesting to see. It all sort ties into our main character, as a detective, is an expert at solving puzzles, yet his own life soon becomes the most difficult puzzle yet. This story intrigued me and kept me involved the whole way through. Films 1 and 2 had Pinhead and the response to the box. "You opened the box we came" In the third and fourth its like okay they are always here now but when are they going to leave...oh we cannot because pinhead is a celebrity now. The cenobites do indeed "tear him apart" but in a different way. Joseph is unable to trust the one thing he thought he could always control, his mind!

Here in Inferno all connections to previous installments are severed. Yes you have the box; however, something has changed. The cenobites do not step into his world, yet the main character steps into their world. This sort of feels like what might have happened to Frank if we could have seen into his personal hell once the cenobites take him under before his eventual escape. The main character, Joseph, spends the rest of the movie in hell, but does not realize it and without giving too much away, the ending is definitely a mind and eye opener for Joseph.

The violence and gore is effective and not overdone. Nothing has matched the stylistic touches of the first two films. In spirit, I believe this movie does the most to recapture some the ideas yet the feeling is significantly different. Inferno is a Hellraiser, but barely and it is certainly no Pinhead flick. Rather, it is more of a slight turn off the road. Whether or not you decide to take this detour is totally up to you; however, I am glad I did!

Summary: Its good, but is it Hellraiser?
Review: After seeing the mixed blessings ... , I decided I would watch the film for myself. The storyline is good, but if, like others have said, you take out the 5 odd minutes of Pinhead, then this wouldn't necessarily be a Hellraiser movie. Although Pinhead didn't have a large role in the first 2 movies, the other characters held it together well. The same can't really be said here.
If you're a diehard fan of the saga, then you may want to consider this a 3 or 2 star, as the Hellraiser theme is weak. But as a horror movie, it is a 4 star, because the story is intelligent and effective, but the characters are not as well acted as in other horror movies.

Summary: ENGINEERING A CLASSIC!
Review: The original HELLRAISER movie was truly something to marvel at: it had horror, gore, story and originality. Unfortunately, like most horror movie sequels, all HELLRAISER movies to date go from bad (Hellbound, Hell On Earth) to the utterly awful (Bloodline) - so it comes as a surprise that this, the fifth HELLRAISER movie, is so good. Working on Clive Barker's premise that everyone in hell lives their own personal hell, here we get to see just that as a corrupt cop is shown just how sinful his life has been. As his world falls apart around him, he comes to realise that it really is not such a nice place. Where this movie succeeds is that it actually has a plot. The characters are layered and have meaning, the story is involving and moves at a steady pace, never slowing down, never confusing, and the Cenobites have gone from S&M horror to totally creepy; complete with lizard-like tongues! What so many Hellraiser fans and Clive Barker - the creator of Hellraiser - have against this movie is beyond me. It is intelligently written, beautifully directed and has a story. The only reason for such negative comments can be that many people believe horror should be gory, with monsters and screaming girls. If that's what you want, then go elsewhere, HELLRAISER: INFERNO is intelligent horror for intelligent people, without so much as a screaming, half-naked blonde or cliched one-liner in sight. Put simply: this movie is a work of genius!

Summary: empty
Review: so after bloodline, i'm left wondering how they are going to resurrect pinhead this time. Like all horror franchises, at some point we must abandon previous plotlines and just pretend the other films do not exist. Hence we have inferno. I suppose this was meant to be somewhat of a new beginning or departure for the series but it does not deliver the goods. Reminds me of Coke and New Coke. We all know what happened to New Coke. The DVD format at least makes the film look nice visually. Im not saying Inferno does not have its moments. It does. Theres one scene where a character is flogged and tortured while his buddy watches from a window across the street. This is classic cenobite punishment. However, these moments cannot make up for the sense that something is missing here. The lack of cenobite mytholgy here is disheartening. This film could have been a whole lot better if it had some soul. As it is, its simply average.

Summary: Intriging Hellraiser movie but no Classic
Review: Hellraiser: Inferno is a good film but that's about it. The plot is confusing at times "The Engineer" is what got me confused at times. Pinhead's appearence is very limited about 2-3mins and its toward the end. The film is mainly helped out by some great acting especially Craig Sheffer who plays the corrupt cop Joesph and some other B movie cast members. The SFX are ok even for 2 million dollar movie budget (IMDb info). The story is ok but like i said the plot is to confused at all times. However its a good movie but this should deserve more than it should. The DVD is not the best but its good as well its a couple of good features: 1)Interview with Doug Bradley & 2) Four short clips of Makeup Effect Artist Gary J. Tunicliffe explaining "The Secrets Of Hellraiser Revealed".

Summary: Stick a fork in Hellraiser!
Review: Junk. Pure junk. Don't even insult your intelligence by seeing this steaming pile of dump. I love Clive Barker. He has nothing to do with this junk. The plot is stupid. Pinhead makes a cameo that lasts about five minutes tops. This one might just kill the Hellraiser dynasty. I liked all of the previous Hellraisers, including Bloodline, but this one made me want to commit suicide. (...)
