Review: Alien spores drift into Earth's atmosphere and begin to produce replications of the populace. As more and more humans are replaced, those who remain gradually become aware that something very strange is going on. Director Philip Kaufmann and screenwriter W.D. Richter are able to attain such a high pitch of paranoiac suspense because we are never allowed to see or know more than the central characters do. The scope of the invasion is unveiled gradually. The pacing of a story like this is of the utmost importance and Kaufmann makes nary a misstep--we go from a world in which everything is routine to a nightarish reality in which no one can be trusted.

Summary: THE scary movie.
Review: This movie is not only the scariest PG rated movie, it the scariest movie of ALL. This has freaky scenes (as opposed to GORE! GORE! GORE!) that will leave you with nightmares. Just rent this movie at least. Note: Look for a cameos of Kevin McCarthy, who played the main character in the original Invasion of the Body Snatchers, as a man running away from the alien duplicates, and Robert Duvall, as a priest on a swing.

Summary: Wrong Aspect ratio
Review: This version "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" is easily the best twentieth century paranoia movie ever made. It is magnificently directed by Phillip Kaufman, impeccably acted and brilliantly scripted. It is also visually stunning, using every frame to create a deep and brooding sense of unease that lasts through multiple watchings.True to their reputation, MGM have seen fit to release this film in the WRONG ASPECT RATIO. Instead of this film being released in 235.1 (very widescreen) MGM have released it as 185.1 (not very widescreen) This means that impeccably composed shots are uglily cut at the edges unbalancing the look of the entire film and the vision of the supremely talented people who made it. Frankly, this release is nothing short of a butchery of a fine film and should be avoided like the plague. Grond99

Summary: The best movie everrrr!
Review: If you like scarey and original movie classics, then you'll love this one. The suspence keeps adding on from the first frame of the movie to last frame. The story is easy to follow and the actors are believable. I loved this movie the movie the first time I saw it and I still love it. Get this movie on DVD!

Review: This movie is brilliantly crafted, thematically profound, and will scare the [stuff] out of you. Kaufman fell off his game in the Nineties, in my opinion, but nothing can ever diminish his accomplishment with this classic.

Summary: Well done remake
Review: "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" is an excellent remake of the 1956 classic. This updated version is slightly more violent and gory, but it retains the mystery and suspense of the original. The musical score is weird, but adds to the tension. It's hard to find a weakness in this movie; everybody does a good job, especially Veronica Cartwright as the petrified Mrs. Bellicec.

Review: That is the point in the movie when you just know it's going to be great. First I would like to answer the question asked by a previous reviewer (mithras93), yes that is Robert Duvall dressed like a priest on the swing in the opening of the movie. I don't know what that meant. Anyway, this movie is THE scary movie. Forget all of that Freddie, Jason, Scream, Blair Witch junk! That is nothing compared to this movie. Granted the time period makes it a little hard to get into the movie, at first. But just sit back and pay attention. Pretty soon you won't notice the turtlenecks and shag carpet. It will be all about THE POD PEOPLE!!!! AAAGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! Seriously, I love "scary" movies. I just never am able to get really scared. Isn't that the point. Usually I just end up laughing or turning my head at the gore. Well, this movie had me freaking out!!! The best part is that the gore factor is at the all time low. They don't fling body parts all over the place. My recommendation is that this movie be broadcast every Halloween so everyone can get a real scare! Buy this DVD. The menu is awesome!!!!!

Review: I love the original IOFBS, but this 1978 classic blows that one out of the water. Sutherland and Adams are awesome as the humans on the run. Dr. Spock has a brief role as a psychiatrist. I like how this film utilizes modern psychology But the best thing about this film is the noise that the aliens make. Completely creepy.

Summary: Widescreen image is compromised
Review: Five stars to the movie itself, but -- as someone else suggests -- the widescreen image has been compromised. At one point director Kaufman comments on a scene shot in Donald Sutherland's office and how you can see buildings outside in San Francisco through the window on the right. All I can see on my TV is about 1" of what's outside! Some of the opening credits are close to running off the screen on the left as well. For me this movie is worth it for the explanation of a joke told by Donald Sutherland when he is driving through downtown San Francisco with Brooke Adams. Sutherland never finishes the joke, but Kaufman finally does -- solving something which has been driving me nuts for years!

Review: Now see on DVD. A remake of the Classic 50's sci-fi "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" (1956) ASIN: 0782009980. And it is scarier. Senator Joseph McCarthy's era is over; so you can not blame this movie on him anymore. You have the feeling that at any time you will become a pod-estrian.
