Summary: Mediocre films, Excellent DVD
Review: It is so funny upon thinking about it that Silent Night, Deadly Night has gained such a reputation as being a film that is so gory, so offensive, that it was banned in many places for years. Honestly, the only reason the film was banned and the only reason parents had problems with the films was the fact that the TV commercials were making little kids terrified of Santa. This movie isn't any more gory or violent than it's holiday-themed predecessors such as Friday the 13th and Halloween. It's just that fact that it deals with such a "sacred subject" as Santa that upsets people.

Frankly both of these movies aren't even really that great. Anchor Bay has released the first film unrated with extra gore spliced in, making it the most complete edition ever released. I can honestly say that I did not find any of the added footage any more offensive or disturbing than the original. The fact that these films (especially the first one) take themselves so seriously is the most offensive thing of all.

Anchor Bay has released these films on a two-sided DVD and each movie has it's own small amount of special features, including trailers, interviews, and a commentary track. The video quality is decent on both films. The "uncut" footage that was spliced into the first film from a different print looks much rougher and more washed out than the rest of the film, however I did not find it too distracting. The mono audio is sufficient for what it is. No technical problems really.

If you are looking for a good holiday movie, buy "It's a Wonderful Life." If that's not available, get "Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol." If Christmas cheer is what you are after, these are perfect. If you want to see a psycho in a Santa suit hack people up, get the Silent Night Deadly Night double feature. Just don't expect it to instill the Christmas spirit into your family.

Summary: Christmas Eve is the scariest damn night of the year!
Review: Mother of God. Where do I even begin? These movies are not good. At all. Though you may find yourself oddly entertained like I was by the first movie, where a boy who sees his parents killed by "Santa Claus" grows up to become a psycho killer on Xmas eve years later. This is basically the plot; He puts on a Santa suit and runs around screaming "Punish!", killing off random people who are breaking all the cliched horror rules. Example scene: After murdering a topless young teen and her boyfriend, "Santa" meets the younger sister and he asks her if she's been good (demented Santa voice-"Are you suuure?"). She says yes, (not even once noticing he has a bloody axe in his hand by the way), and he gives her a box-cutter knife as a gift and leaves her there.

Many people protested this movie when it first came out simply because it depicted Santa as a killer, but not because it was a piece of crap. Yes, I'm saying it's a bad movie and yes, I'm admitting I kinda like it in all its dementedness. The second film, however is even worse. Basically the first 45 mintues or so is flashbacks, which show so much of the 1st movie that you wouldn't of had to even watch it. The second half of it is pointless and stupid, but what do you expect, really? The second movie involves (after the looooooong flashbacks) the brother of the first killer who (surprise!) goes on a killing spree. Hooray. If you must rent this 'cause you're in a weird mood, go ahead. But skip the 2nd film and just watch the trailer of it.

Summary: Part one is okay, Part two is a complete rip-off
Review: Silent Night Deadly Night Part 1-
This movie is decent. It is not the best horror movie of all time but it is not completely horrible. It is very predictable, but at least there is a lot of action right at the beginning of the movie. I would give this part 3 stars.

Silent Night Deadly Night Part 2-
This has to be one of the worst movies I have ever seen. I would say 3/4 of the movie is actually the flashback to part one. The movie is not that long to begin with and they end up showing you all of part one. You don't even need to watch part one. The acting is completely horrible. The only redeeming quality is that there are a few funny parts, so I did get to laugh.
Unfortunately you have to buy these two together, I would rent part one but leave part two right in the store!!

Summary: Weak film not worth all the hype
Review: Silent Night Deadly Night really caused a ruckous when it was originally released, but remember the golden rule, there is no such thing as bad publicity. All the bad hype it was getting actually drew more people to the film. It worked on me, I admit. I had to see the film that caused so much commotion. I ended up really disappointed. Although not a bad concept for a horror film, it's just executed poorly. Poor directing, editing, acting. This film might have turned out alright if it has some actual talent behind the camera (such as John Carpenter or Wes Craven). Even though the film isn't all that good, Anchor Bay does a great job bringing it to DVD. This time it is FULLY uncut for the first time. Sadly the cut portions that were added back in the film are of poorer picture quality than of the original film, but Anchor Bay did the best they could to get the cut scenes to match the original material. What can I say about Silent Night Deadly Night Part 2, it is just terrible. At least the original SNDN had an original story, the second film is 45 minutes of flashbacks from the first film and 40 minutes of new material. Talk about a cheap trick to get people into the theaters. The director even admits it in the commontary! No wonder they shoved it on the same disc as SNDN1, because there is no way they could sell it seperatly. I still can't believe there were even 3 more sequels! Horror fans who are curious, rent this film first. If you like the film for whatever reason, you won't be disappointed by this DVD release.

Summary: Silent Night Deadly Night / Silent Night Deadly Night Part 2
Review: Silent Night, Deadly Night

Silent Night, Deadly Night was just how I expected it to be.The soundtrack is cheesy yet effective at times. The acting is definetly not Oscar material but it's a horror movie so you can't really blame it.The characters are pretty cool; ecspecially Billy
(The Main Character). The dialogue is also fairly good. Finally the plot is exceptionally well thought out and written. It goes like this; A little boy witnesses the murder of his parents on Christmas Eve and now around Christmas he gets paranoid and has flashbacks. He is now around 18 and is ready to kill all the naughty boys and girls.I really enjoyed many parts of the movie. Many of the death scenes were creative.(SPOILERS)The arrow shooting, the one were the girl is shoved on the deer's horns, the decapitation with the boys are sleigh riding.I really think this is an above average 80's horror flick.I can see some reasons why people wanted to ban it from theaters, but come on there are much worse things on the silver screen than a killer santa.Make sure to check this one out around the holiday season.(7/10)

Silent Night, Deadly Night 2

Silent Night, Deadly Night - Pt. 2 is a toss up. It is hard to rate this movie. The first 40 minutes is basically flashbacks. The rest is kinda silly and ridiculous.Mother Superior's face has some how gotten all moldy and screwed up and they expect us to believe it is due to a stroke.Ricky is all old now and the movie is is just 3 years older than the predeccesor. The characters aren't really remorable; except for Ricky. The dialogue is stupid and dumb. The plot is fairly interesting though.Ricky has inherited the killing spree. He is now out to seek revenge on Mother Superior.I liked the character Ricky; he was extremely stupid at times or just funny.I also hated some of the killing scenes and how they showed some of the first movie in this one; it just seemed weird.I enjoyed how they told a little about Ricky's life after Saint Mary's school;though.Only watch this one if your a fan of the series.(5/10)

Though Part 2 isn't much more dignified than its predecessor, at the very least its isolated pleasures have a culminating effect."

Summary: Worth a watch
Review: The first one was pretty good. A boy witnesses something so horrible then gets sent to an orphanage where some insane nun punishes "sins" of innocent silly kids, yet she believes child abuse is perfectly acceptable. The boy grows up, becomes crazy, you've heard it. It was interesting and also fun to see how FAKE it all was. Santa gutting a girl on a mounted deer antlers? Yeah, like it could really support the weight of a human body.
The first movie was good but the second was absolutely unwatchable. The lead actor was terrible. Unconvincing, he acts like he doesn't like the doctor evaluating him, and he doesn't want to be there, yet he willingly chats on and on about everything, adding his smartypants facial expressions. FAKE!! Plus most of the movie was clips from Part 1, so it was a cheat.

Summary: cmon.........a horror classic
Review: This film is awesome. I love it. When first released in 1984 it caused considerable controversy and was yanked from cinemas, nowadays i cant even find it in video stores. It has been banned in multiple places, due to the depictation of our beloved Santa Claus as a serial killer. Really that was so not neccesary as the fact that the movie is rated R means young children would not be able to view the film anyway, seriously people should get over it. Alot of people say the film is just crap and cheap, but i recon its really interesting and good, and the fact that it has a huge cult following show that im not alone in thinking this. Billy Chapman is a young kid riding with his parents of Xmas eve, they are visiting Billys catatonic grandfather. As Billys parents (nursing younger brother Ricky in their arms) discuss the Grandpas condition with the docter, Billy is left alone with the old man, suddenly Granpa spring to life and delivers Billy a chilling message "Xmas night is the scariest damn night of the year, you see Santa Claus, you better run............for your life!"
Billy is now pertrified of Santa and when the family run into a physco dressed as Santa on the ride home (now nightime) his nightmare comes true. Santa brutally murders Billys parents as he watches............
A few years later Billy and younger brother Ricky who both escaped the horrific night are in an orphanage run by nuns. Mainly Mother Superior, the head nun who is very strict on her upbringing of the children. We witness some of Mother Superiors cruel acts to bring Billy into line and then cut forward 10 years where Billy has grown into a HOT young man who is getting a job at the local toy store. From first apperance Billy seems like a normal, nice guy. We do learn that Billy is still traumatized by the events of what happened that night, and also he is still terrifyed of Santa. Come Christmas when Billy is asked to dress up as the one person he loathes, Santa Claus, he snaps. In a chilling scene Billy just completely snaps and embarks on a physcotic rampage to punish the 'naughty'. I really enjoyed this film and think that Robert Brian Wilson (Billy) did a great job, only being 16 when he played the role, he was excellent. I reccomend this film if you're a horror fan.

Summary: scary
Review: this movie is quite scary. i have the dvd of it, thanks anchor bay for releasing such a great dvd. anyway, dude this movie is messed up. the scariest part is in the beginning, when the kid's parents get killed. and the music in the very beginning, when the wreath is coming at you and you hear "santa's watching, santa's waiting, christmas eve is slowly fading" in that little kid's voice, it is so creepy. and there are many good death scenes, i won't give them away. it is hard to find a good christmas horror movie, but i will save you time by telling you, check out black christmas and this movie, forget the rest. you will be pissed off if you watch christmas evil, as a matter of fact, avoid troma movies at all costs, they are bast*rds and deserve to die, they disgrace the horror genre. anyway, check this movie out, replace "a muppet's christmas carol" or a miracle on 34th street" and watch this instead. one more thing, take some free advice. DO NOT watch this with your parents or any other adult. watch it by yourself in a dark room like i do, it makes it more scary anyway

Summary: Ugh!
Review: What an awful, minging film! I'll be honest about wanting to skip Part 2 entirely after realizing that Silent Night Deadly is utter schlock of the LOWEST form. Jeez, I've never known filmmaking to be so bad. Not that I would use the word 'filmmaking' to accurately describe this pitiful nonsense.

Another word I would not use is 'CINEMATOGRAPHY' to describe the series of still photographs that practically make up the whole of the direction.

The musical score (yeah right) sounds like a mad cat walking over a dated 80's synthesizer. The one good thing about being deaf would be not being able to hear this film.

This is an unashamed Friday the 13th rip-off set at Xmas with a Santa instead of a Jason. And you know what? The only thing that scares me is how bad it is. And to think that it spawned 4 sequels!!!

Getting actually murdered by Santa is more fun than this nauseating cinematic abortion.
