Summary: Egad, That's Bad!
Review: One of the many great novels that should never be faithfully retold in movie form, this latest incarnation of "Frankenstein" is painful to watch. While I am greatful to Kenneth Branaugh for getting into such good shape for his many shirtless monster-making laboratory scenes, I was disappointed that those whould be the highlight of the film. Though technically well done and visually stunning, yadda yadda yadda, the movie stinks. Casting 5'7" Robert DeNiro to play a 7' monstrosity was neatly overcome by either having him sit in a high chair or wear a really long coat with nothing around to use for scale. The serous discussions on the mystery of life were a bit too serious and as riveting as a post-it note. Let's just hope that Mr. Coppola has gotten this taste of disgracing masterworks of gothic fiction out of his system before he massacres "The Phantom of the Opera". Be affraid, be very affraid.

Summary: This is a tragic attempt.
Review: Although this is apparently the closest version to the classic novel, this movie was definitely made for Hollywood. The music drowns out the megre dialogue, and the characters are totally changed. Since when is the sea captain a hostile american? You totally lose the emotion of Victor Frankenstein, and the guilt he feels as being the cause of so many deaths. Also we lose the sympathy we feel for the monster that we gain in the book. The scene in which the monster is created, is over-dramatized. What takes only a couple of paragraphs in the book, is dwelled upon for half an hour in the movie. It is just another chance for Kenneth to take his shirt off. I couldn't help but laugh. His acting is extremely bad, he over-acts. Especially when he crys...come on Kenneth, sqeeze another tear out! Actually everything about this movie is over the top. I cringed when I watched it. The added scene where he brings Elizabeth back to life, is tragic. She looks like the baby-head in Toy Story. Was this meant to be a spoof? Because it would make a good one. Branagh's motto seems to be: "When in doubt, blow something up." Give it a miss.

Review: I just saw this movie and I thought it was great. "Mary Shelly's Frankenstein" was well acted and well directed. Robert Deniro did a very good job acting as Frankenstein's monster. Kenneth Branagh did a great job of directing and acting in the movie. This movie kept my attention the whole time. I highly recommend it.

Summary: The movie was incredibly unfaithful to Mary Shelley's versio
Review: So the monster really looked like Shelley envisioned, but all of the feminist critiques of society were shamefully left out. Elizabeth is suddenly a strong woman willing to leave Victor when he stalls in marrying her. The DeLancy's are not found in this movie version. And Victor and Elizabeth choose to marry each other, instead of the way Shelley envisioned it, where the mother asks them to marry as she lies on her deathbed. There are many other inconsistancies between this version that claims her name and Shelley's novel. I'm all for changing stories to create new ones, but don't claim something that isn't there.
