Summary: Good for what it is, godawful for what it isn't
Review: Don't let the "Wes Craven Presents" fool you, you won't find much innovation in Dracula 2000 that bears that director's mark. Patrick Lussier directs with a stylish flair, but the action and fighting scenes (clearly taken from The Matrix) are directed very poorly, as are the edits, and what we end up with is a very mixed bag. However, Dracula 2000 isn't without it's highpoints: the re-creation of Dracula's (Gerard Butler) origin and Van Helsing's (Christopher Plummer) struggle against him are great ideas that are nearly developed to perfection, but fall all too short. Butler and Plummer are great in their respective roles, Butler especially as the ever carasmatic Dracula (I laughed so hard when he saw the Monster Magnet music video and called it genius), and the rest of the cast, including Jonny Lee Miller, Justine Waddell, Omar Epps, Jennifer Esposito, Jeri Ryan, Vitamin C, Danny Masterson, and Sean Patrick Thomas do they're best, but in the end Dracula 2000 is an excercise in futility, but entertaining nonetheless. Look for Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman in a small cameo.

Summary: Wrong 'Dracula 2000'
Review: This movie was just wrong. Everything was bad about it, except for Christopher Plummer's performance and Jennifer Esposito (bonita!). A group of criminals break into Van Helsing's vault to resurrect Dracula. That's the movie. I can't remember anything else that happened in this misguided movie with no direction. ... Vitamin C was nude. Why? Another reason what made the movie dirty.

Summary: So-so update enlivened by strong (and attractive) cast....
Review: A high-tech group of thieves infiltrates a vault in a London Antiques shop, thinking it hides a fortune, but ends up uncovering (and reviving) Dracula's remains. After victimizing the entire group while on a trans-Atlantic flight, Dracula ends up in New Orleans during Mardi Gras. His new mission: pursue his last living descendant, Mary Van Helsing. It's up to her father and his assistant to thwart Drac's plans...This is a decent updating of the Dracula legend. The direction, unfortunately, isn't always as energetic as one would want, and there are a few cheesy elements here and there. But overall, I feel this film succeeds more than it fails, due in large part to its cast: Gerard Butler (who will soon be in Michael Crichton's TIMELINE and TOMB RAIDER 2) is simply terrific as Dracula. He brings a quiet sensuality to the role, as does Justine Waddell to her role of Mary(she looks like a young Linda Thorson, and I hope she goes on to bigger things). Jonny Lee Miller plays the "White Knight" out to save Mary, and does so solidly. They round out the most attractive triangle I've seen in awhile. Rounding out the gorgeous and talented cast in smaller, but no less interesting, roles are Jennifer Esposito, Colleen Fitzpatrick, Omar Epps, Jeri Ryan, and Christopher Plummer. Bottom line: Decent flick, with a cast that is serious eye candy, and seriously talented....

Summary: Dracula for the teen crowd, meaning it (sigh) [disappoints].
Review: Dracula 2000 is, like most Dimension offerings, aimed entirely at the teenage crowd. There are your typical "hot" young actors who, in theory, should be rising stars, but I rarely ever hear much about these performers after I see them in movies like these. But do teen-based horror films have to [disappoint]? No, but filmmakers generally seem to think that people of this age group (that includes me, I'm 18) have short attention spans and require flashy, MTV-style camerawork to hold our interest. Plot-wise...ah, what does this movie care about plot. Apparently, Abraham Van Helsing (Christopher Plummer) is keeping Dracula in a high-tech vault, complete with booby traps and such. Some (very) young thieves manage to break into this highly guarded vault, taking the coffin with them, thinking there's something valuable inside. Yep, it's Dracula and from there on he goes to New Orleans in search of his "soulmate." Dracula 2000 actually begins quite well, with a suspenseful opening in which most of the cast we've been introduced to up to that point are killed off. Can't say I've seen that in any recent film lately. But the film just falls apart from there, with so many mistakes I don't even know where to begin. First, there's Patrick Lussier's direction. In what should have been an action-filled gorefest a la From Dusk Till Dawn, we instead get sporadic fight scenes that are haphazardly directed. Quick cuts, flashy editing, jerky slow-motion, and even tilted camera angles are employed to make us think, "wow, this is so cool!" Scene transitions are simply awful, going from simple scenes with sudden hallucinations and flashbacks that grow immediately tiresome. Vampires appear, say some sultry dialogue, then just vanish into thin air. Dracula turns into a wolf, then back to himself, then wolf, then back to himself and so on and so forth in another one of those badly edited scenes that's there for the "cool" factor. The story, interesting at first, just gets lame, with the typical Dracula quest for his female companion. For once, I'd like a Dracula film where the titular vampire is more ambitious than that. Then there's the movie's big plot twist, revealing the true identity of Dracula. I'm sure some will be shocked, amazed, thrilled. Me, I was shaking my head in disbelief at such a hilarious notion, and the way this twist is presented makes it even harder to swallow. The special effects are pretty cheesy, with some of the cleanest-looking decapitations I've ever seen. The CGI bats are unconvincing, and the mist that accompanies Dracula's entrance almost had me thinking I was watching a stage production. Word to filmmakers: mist generally isn't scary. Don't use it unless it's vital to the plot. Acting's a messy mix, with Jonny Lee Miller faring the best if only because he doesn't have to act like a sultry vampire or pout a lot of ranting dialogue. The cast is really quite large, so perhaps the most important are Justine Waddell as the heroine and Gerard Butler as Dracula. Waddell's okay, and while Butler gets in a couple of okay moments, this guy just doesn't look creepy enough for the part. Jennifer Esposito and Jeri Ryan are on hand to show some cleavage, and Vitamin C flashes her breasts. Christopher Plummer delivers an amusing accent and that's about all there is in terms of acting. Dracula 2000's a mess, the script is all over the map, the direction is wildly out of sync, and even the score is obtrusive and hard to listen to. Undemanding vampire fans might enjoy, but then again, I was in an undemanding mood, too.

Summary: Bloodsucking Fun
Review: Dracula, Dracula ... what are we going to do with you, Dracula? I can't imagine a harder task than revisioning the Prince of Darkness. Check any database, and you'll find that there have been literally hundreds of celluloid versions of any tales of the vampire -- both for the small and silver screen. But I guess when you're destined to live forever, some filmmaker is going to come along with a new spin on the undead. DRACULA 2000 has bite, but misses its mark with too many predictable turns ... however, it's one pleasant surprise is that, unlike other attempts to reinvigorate the Count, this film pays homage to its roots by incorporating the age old Dracula vs. Von Helsing struggle, elevating it to the level of Holmes vs. Moriarity, God vs. Satan. Some very clever and well-equipped art thieves break into what they believe is a vault filled with priceless artifacts ... only to be sorely disappointed in finding largely run-of-the-mill antiques. However, a booby-trapped room yields a coffin that they believe must be a ruse: what better place, after all, to hide your valuables where no one would look? So, they manage to steal the coffin, head for the US via airplane, and ... well, I don't want to give it all away. Suffice it to say, they didn't name the film DRACULA 2000 because it starred Barney, the Dinosaur. As it turns out, Von Helsing's daughter happens to be living and attending college in New Orleans, and, for reasons I won't disclose to save the viewer the smart surprise, the Prince of Darkness is drawn to her. However, once they get together, the plot succumbs to predictability, gore, and poor acting. Still, DRACULA 2000 is worth a view. There are enough surprise to keep one guessing that perhaps Buffy isn't the only vampire slayer out there, but keep your fingers crossed that DRACULA 2001 isn't being prepped for shooting.

Summary: how to explain it...
Review: The only words that I can think of are "bad" and "stupid". This movie really had nothing to it at all. I'll give the Judas thing being original...but even that was stupid. Why would he have a bad Transylvanian accent? I saw this movie as a waste of time and a wanna-be-Dracula-movie. Not scary, nor even that creative through most of it.

It's not scary, it's not funny, it's not strange, it's not effective, it has no plot, and the acting it's terrible.
Jennifer Esposito saves the film with a regular acting.
I feel ashame with this peace of garbage.

Summary: Great DVD, good movie
Review: A lot of people seem to have a problem with this movie, I'm not sure why. Maybe the cast is too young for them or something. I enjoyed it very much. There is a nice mixture of action and plot. Some biblical intrigue and a bit of exploitive nudity. Now the DVD is pretty stacked. You got your director's commentary, trailers for multiple films, behind the scenes, deleted scenes, and audition videos. The Dolby Digital 5.1 sound is booming and banging it's little heart out. And of course, you get it in Animorphic widescreen, the only way to view a movie. So here is a quick summary: Decent plot, good sction, hot girls, stacked DVD. What more do you want? Movie: 7/10
