Summary: Weird!
Review: I had some free DVD rental coupons to use before the end of 2000, so I rented this one. It was a bit strange. Like Being John Malkovich, the story line showed great imagination but I found myself a little bored. The acting was good and the bonus materials were interesting, but it isn't one I will purchase. I agree with another review which states that you will either like it or hate it. Just don't drink and watch!

Summary: anyone else freaked out?
Review: I am! Whoa-what's going on in this movie? It's Selena meets Trent Reznor meets Pinhead!

The acting really isn't all that good. the plot is so-so. What is the attraction? Well, lopez if she's your girl and a lot of abstract art and ideas. This movie is a trip into the surreal world and mind of a schizophrenic.

This movie is a little too trippy for me. I kept waiting for the Hellraiser cube to show up.

Summary: I beg you not to see this
Review: This is one of the few movies that I think actually deserves one star. I was bored one nigt in the summer and the cell had sounded pretty good in the adds so I decided to see it. Biggest waste of two hours and 5 dollars ever! I could see how the director tried to make it sort a matrix type of cool near the end but the director failed miserably at this. Don't scar your dvd player with this movie, it's the best advice I can give you. In other words please don't see it and it would be even worse of you to buy it.

Summary: ex-CELL-lent!
Review: First off, I thought that the movie was well done. The story and actors worked well and to top it off the special effects were great (I'm really into computer graphics). As a film this DVD is a great thriller and deserves five stars, but because the special features like the empathy test and such don't quite meet my standards of enjoyable extras. Don't get me wrong the empathy test was a unique and pleasant feature. It's just that the second time around isn't half as fun as the first and so on. An upside to the special features is a demo of HOME WORLD ( a computer game) for those who have a DVD ROM.

VERDICT: 4.5 cause it wasn't packed with enjoyable extras although th film itself is a 5.

Summary: Don't watch it if all you want is logic
Review: The title of my review is a warning for all those scientific freaks out there who in order to enjoy a movie must absolutely see that everything perfectly and logically fits everything else. I am one of those freaks myself, but I decided that I wouldn't pay much attention to that side of things in this movie. More than anything else this movie is art, a 2 hour long display of art (and a fine one at that), or like some other ppl said, a 2 hour long music video. The story does have some coherence, and I dont think I have to explain the whole plot in here since you can find it anywhere else... Instead I will just write down a few things to help you know if you will like this movie.

You will (most certainly) enjoy this movie if:

-You like to test out your...home theater with some good audio, and this movie has some sweet audio effects and music, not quite as good as those seen in The Matrix, but then again, don't expect bunch of shootings or lasers sequences, since the general mood of the movie is quiet.

-You like good quality video, and this movie is very crisp and the colors are very nice all around, they use very rich colors during all the film, and some computer generated effects are very nice too, the film is seen as some kind of strange dream.

-You like freaky and gory stuff, and I can't stretch this enough, since the movie has some very disturbing imagery and scenes, and so it has blood and its dark and not at all suited for a close minded person. (its not some zombie gore fest either, so dont take it to the extreme...)

-As for the topic, its not as much as totally shallow, and if u pour yourself in you can actually enjoy a lot of the plot by letting your imagination try to understand whats going on in the mind of a serial killer.

The DVD is loaded with some long features that should keep you entertained for a while after you've seen the movie.

Summary: VISUALLY STUNNING!
Review: "The Cell" is one of the most incredible films I've seen in years. The colors, special effects, and soundtrack definitely take the front seat in this thriller, although Jennifer Lopez is a class act and a sight to behold.I would highly recommend this film.

Summary: The Cell isn't even worth the time spent reviewing it
Review: This movie is terrible. The concept could have been better explored without the grotesque, violent theme. It almost isn't even worth the time to review...

Review: Here we got a dvd with Jennifer Lopez. Its a strange movie. That's for sure. In this movie you follow jennifer lopez helping mentally insane people by a machine. By a machine? yesss there is a matrix side of this movie. She enters the peoples mind with a machine, how original? Well a serial killer is busy with? yes killing people.... but just when the feds want to catch him he falls into a coma. But there is still a girl trapped by the serial killer on a not known place.. This is where our jennifer comes and she travels in the killers sick mind. You find this movie great or you hate it. The dvd is good.

Summary: Your worst nightmare come true
Review: To say that "The Cell" is not a pleasant movie would be a gross understatement. It is a twisted and nightmarish examination of the inner workings of the mind of a psychopath. The story is a standard race against time by the police to save the psycho's next victim, which is just an excuse to make a demented mind torquing horror flick.

The device for delivering this disturbing fantasy is novel. Technology allows therapist Catherine Deane (Jennifer Lopez) to enter the mind of a monster who conveniently goes comatose while his next victim is on autosnuff in a tank that is programmed to fill with water before the movie ends. Her mission is to transport herself into his sick mind and get his confidence so she can find out where the girl is hidden.

Once inside, writer Mark Protosevich and former music video director Tarsem Singh (directing his first feature film) have carte blanche to let their imaginations run wild, no longer limited by the mundane forces of the physical world. They pull out all the stops and deliver an ingenious and gruesome adventure that is garishly photographed and deeply disconcerting to the most placid of viewers.

Singh gets high marks for his innovative perspectives in bringing the wry dream world to life. He has a very good eye and there are some beautiful shots, especially the desert scenes. Clearly, his music video experience broadened his creative boundaries, which was a plus in shooting a film without any.

Jennifer Lopez is a good actress who has let her publicity exploits eclipse her acting ability. She was in this film more for her looks and outrageous sexiness than her acting, though she did a good job considering her role. She gave it her best shot at creating a sympathetic character, but unfortunately, the effort was lost amid the gore and sensationalism. Her love of outlandish garb came in handy in this film. Vincent Donofrio was marvelous as the beast. He appeared convincingly disturbed, and he was imposing as the monster in the dream scenes.

This film is more form than substance. The story was weak but the horror was strong. I rated it a 7/10 on the strength of the imaginative direction and photography. Horror and Lopez lovers add another 1 or 2 points. This film is very violent and gory and is not for the squeamish.

Summary: Call this " Lopez in a whacked out Wonderland"
Review: Probably the best way to descibe this flick is that it is a warped, disturbing story of a social worker, played by Jennifer Lopez, who must venture into a serial killer's mind in order to find the location of his next would-be victim. The visuals are nothing short of stunning, yet very disturbing in this sci-fi thriller. The plot is slight, but it is the visuals that will draw your attention here. Lopez does a solid job in a film that is NOT for everyone. The DVD extras add a lot in helping one understand this unique film. Recommended if you like your sci-fi thrillers on the bleak side.
