Summary: still a scary good time
Review: Much has been debated about the "true events" thisfilm was based on. I have to admit, when I first saw THE AMITYVILLE HORROR, it really freaked me out, especially since I was unaware at the time of the "hoax" rumors. Still, I thought it was scary.

In seeing the film again, I have to say it hasn't matured particularly well. There are still many scenes which give me goosebumps (hello, those glowing red eyes in the window and the demon voice telling Rod Steiger to "GET OUT! "), but I now find the film to be very slow moving and some of the dialogue to be silly.

On the plus side, Margot Kidder STILL makes for a wonderful heroine (check her out in BLACK CHRISTMAS too!)and the climax is still one of my all time favorite, energy charged escapes. The blood pouring down the walls and stairs... Margot's face turning old and wrinkled... the "eye" windows shattering... it all still makes for some spooky good fun if you're willing to endure the "down times."... END

Summary: Amityville
Review: This is a classic haunted house film. It doesn't contains something really scares or somthing makes this film interesting for everybody, but for persons who likes the amityville story it's very good. I really liked it but it disappoints me sometimes because of the poor effects. Don't buy it unless you'r an amityville fan.

Summary: Horror A load of Rubbish!
Review: Having viewed this film as a kid and subsequent viewing's many year's later over-all it cop's alot of undue-flak. Firstly though it grow's a little cheesier with time Amityville Horror was directed fine by Stuart Rosenberg, cinemaphotography and acting by James Brolin,Margot Kidder and their children good, though brilliant as he is Rod Steiger is way over the top and down-right embarasing as the Lutz family\priest in this. Musical-score by Lalo Schiffrin also errily-atmospheric I think maybe even nominated for an oscar or something similar at the time of original-release.

In any case it was for it's time I believe the 2nd highest-grossing movie for it's year of release and most of us believed this so-titled based on a true-story which as most by now know was HOAX,hoax, and more of the same. Doesn't stand-up over time as a classical-scare in my opinion but other-horror-fan's love-it,actress Margot Kidder(then Superman's Lois Lane)has trashed connection with it saying she did it for monetary reason's only saying she never belived in the Lutz story and that she thought it was a pile of rubbish, that Jim Brolin was too sweet and a better PR man than she to dump on-it and with that I agree the content certainly is but as film it's entertaingly late 70's fiction. So check out an oldie not as bad as some made presently, however not frightening by today's standard's,but then who is anymore? Nostalgic for those who grew-up on Fangoria & Famous Monster's magazine's. Still not all that bad,has a few errie-moement's. Let-down is it was'nt as then claimed based on a true-story which was the the hook for making it then somewhat scary. Decide for yourself!

Summary: A Classic Haunted House Story
Review: I remember reading the book-which as always is better than the film-but overall this is a classic supernatural thriller. It was big in its day and still holds up pretty well.

A recently married couple (George and Kathleen Lutz) and their three children buy a huge house in Amityville, New York. It was only a year ago when a 20 year old man murdered his family in that same house with a shotgun. However, this does not stop Kathleen or George from occupying it. Everything seems fine at first. The new family moves in and is soon besieged by bumps in the night, endless flies, pig eyes and creepy happenings.

Turn off all the lights and enjoy it!

Summary: Oh Please...
Review: In this "chiller" about a family who move into a haunted house (that's basically the entire plot), the only thing that's scary is how bad it is! While it does have a few good scenes, it really doesn't generate too many chills. The so/so effects are sometimes laughable and the acting isn't that good at all. You won't be missing out on much if you skip this one.

Summary: Get OUT!
Review: Nearly 21 years after its release, this film still gives me the CREEPS! The music alone makes me shiver when I hear it! The question of whether or not it is a true story remains doubtful, but the fact that a man murdered his parents and siblings in the house on a rainy night still disturbs me. I do believe in the existence of some type of supernatural vibrations, and I can't watch this movie without shuddering every time the clock turns to 3:15 a.m. when the murders occured. I've read everyone's comments, and I agree with some of the film's shortcomings. But I still feel a sense of unease when I watch this in my parent's house, and find myself nervous about going near the windows after dark because of what is lurking outside. It may or may not scare you, but the film is worth a look!

Summary: A Classic
Review: The movie keeps you interested throughout. The part when they find the gateway to hell in their basement is the best. This movie will keep your mind going and wondering what the frightening end will be.

Summary: Real or not great movie
Review: I'm a big fan of horror movies and since I do believe in ghosts and haunted houses and things like that I read the book and watched the movie and like everyone else thought the story was real untill I read the Amityville Conspericey book. Well I thought about it and figured if the story was false I THOUGHT SO WHAT WHO CARES! I sure don't care I sure as hell am not going to lose any sleep over it. I admit I was alittle disappointed that it was not true but I got over it. I feel it was one heck of a story and since I was young when it first came out it sure scared me and as I got older it quickly became one of my personnal top 5 favorites. I now have every book that has come out on Amityville and all the movies. So if you like horror movies I highly recommened this moive.

Summary: Darned Scarey
Review: This is one of the better haunted house tales made in the 70's. I wouldn't bother with the sequels. Kidder and Brolin are cute newlyweds who try to hang on to their sanity as they begin to realize that their new house is evil. The incidents start out as curious and frustrating, growing more demonic as the movie progresses. Steiger as the priest has a no-so-subtle encounter when he first visits the house. His performance is over the top and a treat to watch. The 70's pacing might be too slow for today's audiences. The story was supposed based on fact, but in later years we find that the whole thing was a hoax. When I first saw it at the theatres (and thought there was some truth to it), it seemed a lot more frightening. It is still a good example of effective story-telling.
