Summary: Misery, Annie, and Mister Man!!!
Review: A hugely entertaining film. Kathy Bates and James Caan gave phenomenal performances, both were
consistently into their character through out the movie. Some people can relate to Annie's
(Bates) obsession and fanaticism, well at least to some level since Annie's case is
in the extreme. I personally can relate how a certain book or movie or music can affect a certain
person's life that you tend to do sometimes ridiculous stuffs. Well picture all of that In Annie's
character but turn it to its extreme.

Although the relationship of Bates and Caan weren't developed to the fullest, the strength
of the film is when they are together. Who could forget the scene where Bates hit Caan's feet
with a axe or something,
the actual scene wasn't shown but you still cant help but close your eyes knowing what
Bates was doing. Plus of course the climactic finale of the movie.

I hugely recommend this film, fun to watch with your friends when you've got nothing to do.
But you could also watch it alone, that way no noisy laughs from your friends. LOL :)

Summary: Got any Novril?
Review: This was the first of Stephen King's novels that I ever read, and I thought it was EXCELLENT, but I didn't become his number one fan! This was one of the few films which proved that a film adaptation of a novel can be good.
Kathy Bates was superb as Annie Wilkes, she was able to be the devoted, adoring fan one minute. And the sadistic obsessed fan the next minute.
This was meant to be a cautionary tale of the perils of fame and fortune, but it is also a tale of cat and mouse mind games. Fabulous film.

Summary: YOUR NUMBER ONE FAN!!!
Review: I have always loved this horror-thriller classic starring James Caan as the popular romance novelist, Paul Sheldon, and Kathy Bates as his nurse and self-proclaimed "number one fan", Annie Wilkes. After saving him from a near-fatal car wreck, he awakes in her home and soon realizes that she is a psychopathic nurse. Paul also realizes that she is keeping him a prisoner in her isolated house. Annie wants Paul to write a new Misery Chastain novel just for her or she'll get nasty! The scene with a sledge hammer is not for the faint-hearted. The performances & plot are very convincing, and Kathy Bates even won the best actress oscar for her amazing realistic performance. Not nearly as gruesome and nasty as the Stephen King novel but still very
enjoyable nontheless. Rated R for violence & profanity.

Summary: Kathy Bates is Amazing!!!
Review: This is some movie. It makes you think about the quiet little lady across the street. Could she be less innocent than you think? Misery tells all about this subject, in a very horrifying way. Paul Sheldon is a famous writer who always finishes his novels at the same hotel, with the same wine and the same cigarette. When he drives off one day he gets caught in a freak snow storm. His car sways and goes over the side of the road and into a ditch behind some trees. The car is tipped over but yet he's still alive. Then a woman finds him and brings him home.
He wakes up in the house of a nice woman named Annie Wilkes. She has nursed him back to health and is his number one fan. When she gets a copy of his latest book and finds that the main character dies in the end she goes crazy. Now the real Annie has come out. He is in a race for his life by Annie who has now gone completely mad. The gore in this film isn't the thing that gets under your skin. What does are the scenes where Paul is so close to getting out but then he's stuck back where he started from.
If you want to see a great movie with a perfect storyline then see this movie today. I think this film should be rated R for some violence, including grapic abuse and brief language.

Summary: formulaic... predictable.... but still good
Review: I saw this movie at a college theatre so the admission was free and since I had spare time to burn, I went in. Maybe I'm too cynical, but the plot mirrors that of The Butterfly Collector, except it is a psychotic woman doing the abducting instead of a psychotic man, and the abductee is a James Caan instead of a college girl. Read Butterfly Collector and you'll realize that Stephen King basically ripped it off, changed a few details, and gave it a happy ending. However, the film does do a good job at suspense so its not too bad. I gave it a 4 because it's not a bad film, but just saying...

Summary: WOW!
Review: The most realistic horror movie I have every seen. Excellent Acting, Superb Directing, Good everything. Bates deserved the Oscar for this film. I read the book and in this rare case the movie was better then the book. Stephen King is a genus for thinking this story up. my fourth favorite movie of all times. Highly recommended.

Summary: Stephen King scares again!
Review: Maybe this is an alter-reality that a lot of writers are afraid of. Being one, I could imagine myself in Paul Sheldon's shoes, that alone leads to a glancing thought of professional change. The movie, though timid compared to the novel, stands up with Mr. King's best work. Kathy Bates (Dolores Clairborne)makes Annie Wilkes a frightening reality and James Caan (Alien Nation) brings out his best performance in years in a deeply disturbed film. You can't help walking away from the film with shivers.

Summary: 'MANTOVANI, MADNESS and a little spam......."
Review: Kind of the violent side of "The Collector" with the roles reversed. It's the well-deserved OSCAR for this landmark performance by Kathy Bates, as author James Caan's Gracious Saint [the lady with the lamp?] after a near fatal auto accident in the middle of a blizzard!

Plenty of dark humor and near perfect dialogue. Direction kudos to Rob Reiner! The old farmhouse is just a few steps away from "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", [one more or less expects a distant Ed Geinish-Psycho-inspired relative to drop by - fortunately not! This Stephen King creation lives alone on the farm with her livestock and "those" records, and the delightful culinary creations [the special meatloaf] give or take a few syringes, just in case ....

The bed-ridden celebrity is her vision of Heaven! Then things sour slightly, and the necessary restraing [also "re-training"] of the "visitor" is required [total amputation in the novel I seem to recall].

There is a happy ending - of some sorts.

Close cousins? "Whatever happened to Baby Jane?", "The Fan", the chilling "Collector", even "In the realm of the Senses"...........[too edgy though].

Summary: One Powerful and Frightening Thriller! (4.5 stars)
Review: Based on the horrifying novel by Stephen King, "Misery" is a disturbing and frightening thriller that will leave you feeling numb and breathless by the time that the end credits start to roll. Filmed very similar to Hitchcock films, the movie starts slow and seems innocent, until you start to realize that you're in for a very rough ride.

The story is this: Paul is a very successful writer of the "Misery" novels. After finishing writing a novel that was solely for himself, he gets caught up in a terrible snowstorm and gets into a serious car accident. He surely would've died if it had not been for his number one fan, Annie, rescuing him from his car and nursing him back to health while his fractured legs heal. Just when he thinks he's the luckiest guy in the world, he slowly starts to learn that Annie just might not be that much of a wonderful person, especially when it comes to a point where she's literally holding him hostage in her house in the middle of nowhere. Paul used to write for a living... now, he must write to save his life!

The directing and screenplay of this film was very well done. I have not read the book, so I can't really comment if the movie stays true to the book. I also really liked the music in it, which reminded me of "Psycho." Kathy Bates is truly remarkable at playing a psychotic fan with nothing to lose. As you see her more and more in the movie, you feel her slowly slipping into insanity that will scare the hell out of you. Although this movie is not gratuitously violent, when the violent scenes do happen they are very intense and almost hard to watch, so be warned. Be prepared to see something very gruesome and painful... I won't give away the part, but chances are you already know what happens from some of the parodies of this movie.

All in all, this was a great thriller that kept me at the edge of my seat the whole time. Since this is sort of a old movie, there are no "eye-popping" or "jaw-dropping" extras on the DVD. There are some, like the trailer and teaser, but not much else, so keep that in mind. If you're a Stephen King fan, or you just like a good thriller that never lets go, "Misery" will do just the job for you.

Summary: I'm in Misery !!!!
Review: I never knew Kathy Bates could play such a crazy part . When she does that with his feet (hobbling) ,I can feel the pain right along with with Paul (James Caan). This has to be one of Kathy Bates finest movies and she does an outstanding prefomance . It doesn't matter how many times I see it I still cover my eyes when she takes the sledge hammer to him .
