Summary: Intense, disturbing, and perfectly done...
Review: Of all the Stephen King stories adapted into movies, this is perhaps the best. Where many of King's books portray implied or internal terror which is difficult to convey on screen ("It" and "The Shining" come to mind), Carrie shows very real, and very visual terror. At odds with her hyper-religious mother and outcast from her high school classmates, Carrie's coming of age includes the onset of telekinetic powers. Carrie's struggle for acceptance ultimately erupts in a grisly display of rage, with a truly distrubing finale.

The majority of the frightening scenes of this movie come from the heavy religious over tones, and especially from Piper Laurie's performance as Carrie's mother. With her piercing eyes and deranged religious enthusiasm, Piper Laurie nearly steals the movie from the comparably subdued Spacek. As well, De Palma does an excellent job of pacing the movie to allow for character and suspense development.

With this combination of strong acting and directing, along with the excellent adaptation of Stephen King's novel, Carrie is intense, disturbing, and perfectly done.

Summary: Jesus!
Review: The most scary thing in this masterpiece is, undoubtly, the Jesus Christ figurine which appears in just two secuences: Enough to haunt you forever. On a second thougth, "scary" is not the best word to describe it: "Grim" could be better suited. The horrifying transformation it suffers just before the house goes up in flames, is really worth the entire movie: If you pay attention, you will notice it ends resembling Carrie's only date: Tommy; being a witness to Carrie's final destruction.

I was a teenager when the movie first released, and the entire high school motif quite appeals to me. One of my dearest moments is the final scene: Every one of my dates ended weeping in my arms!

Summary: Still Effective After All These Years
Review: I recently saw the movie "Carrie" on cable and I finally realized why it still holds up today. It's not because of Piper Laurie's over-the-top turn as the mother (so much scenery chewing the dialogue is drowned out) or William Katt's gradual succumbing to the title character's charm or even the incomparable Sissy Spacek's ability to deliver volumes of emotions with just a simple look. It's the quiet moments that I like: the look on Katt's face in the classroom when Spacek declares her(quiet)admiration for his poem, the visitation of Laurie to Amy Irving's mother to read scripture, the scene at the prom table between Betty Buckley and Spacek etc. All of these add up to so much more than the typical teen heartbreak high/horror high fright flick and show why this movie remains so effective nearly 25 years after its theatrical release.

Summary: Unique, yet entertaining
Review: CARRIE was a great movie! Although this was more of a teen movie, it's still better than some we see today. This one doesn't have a masked killer or sharks to knock off people, it's simply a girl with a rare disease. Sissy Spacek did a wonderful job in her role. This film is a little slow, but the explosive ending at the prom is worth the wait :)

Summary: A Teen Film With A Difference
Review: If you dislike the teen genre, because of its over-idealistic portraits of school life and growing up, littered with assorted stereotypes, then this is the film for you. I've seen a number of de Palma's films, and while I applaud his visual and technical skills, his " homages " to Alfred Hitchcock, who as far as I'm concerned is the best director the industry has produced, can be infuriating. The film has an auspicious opening, what with the vast number of naked teenagers. I can't help but feel this was exploitative. The scene where Carrie has her period in the shower is painful for the viewer to watch ( did anyone see the shower head as a phallic symbol ? ). Sissy Spacek is wonderful as thye troubled teen, embarassed and repelled by her awakening sexuality. This is no wonder considering her mother's religious obsessions. It's probably good that Carrie does not have a happy ending, otherwise what would distinguish it from other teen flicks? The music was very reminiscent of Bernard Herrman, especially during the scene where Piper Laurie stabs Carrie ( very Psycho ). It would be harsh to say that Carrie is a Hitchcock rip-off, because it works very well on it's own merits. The sequel will hopefully be terrible, because it sounds a bad idea. The most impressive thing though is the film's ability to shock. I'd read about the famous ending, the hand emerging from the grave, and it still scared the hell out of me. All in all, very good. A shame Mr de Palma's career has taken the commercial and mainstream path in recent years however. Hopefully he'll learn from Mission to Mars and especially Bonfire of the Vanities, that he isn't a commercial director. Instead he is a very controversial, dynamic, and provocative indie helmer. I hope he re-thinks his carrer pattern.

Summary: Master of Horror
Review: Although it's been a few years since I've seen this, I can still remember the thrill of seeing Carrie avenge her self pride by showering her classmates with her telekinetic powers and rage. It's a great movie if you're into horror and telekinsis. :)

Summary: An absolute horror classic!
Review: Carrie is one of the most enjoyable horrors around. The movie mixes terror with emotion in a way that ultimately keeps you gripped until the end. And the end finale is breath-taking. Excellent movie!

Summary: Carrie- WOW!
Review: This film was great! It scared the hell out of me and i had more swear words coming out of my mouth while viewing it than i care to mention! Carrie is an amazing and complex character, one you can like, pity and hate all at the same time. Spacek is a wonderful actress too. I recommend this film to anyone, but don't expect to get a decent nights sleep after watching it...YOU WONT!
