Summary: Unfairly overrated bloody picture - no imagination
Review: "Friday the 13th", it's John Carpenter's classic "Halloween" in the country, or more precisely in a vacation camp for teenagers. It's easier to shoot a little horror film in a desert place than in Los Angeles (yes, actually, "Halloween" was shot in Los Angeles). You take a group of young, horny characters searching for some chilling and strong emotions, coming (on purpose?) in a desert, isolated, frightening, cursed place with a past and reputation, closed by the authorities because of some tragic events which occured in this very place, many years before. This is stupid and very, too predictible. You're at once able to guess that in the end all the characters will die... except one woman, like in some classic American horror movies released a little time before ("Halloween", "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" or "Alien"...).

Take the whole plot of "Halloween" (a group of young people, a lonesome, hiding serial killer with a mask - here the one of an ice-hockey player, which isn't difficult to find -, a forest to set a so-called 'atmosphere' - in "Halloween", Michael Myers uses the trees and other thick plants in order to stay out of sight -, and a stupid opened ending - 'So he's still over there!'), put much more blood and violence in it ('gore' scenes like decapitations, cut throats...) and you got a picture (a copy, but still a picture), not good at all but able to get the same financial success as "Halloween"'s. This is really the essential, the main thing, no matter the quality, the actors and the makers (if we know everything about Carpenter, we don't know nothing about Sean S. Cunningham and we don't care about the screenwriter); when you leave the theater or stop the tape recorder, you don't have the feeling that you just watched an unforgettable film. Because "Friday the 13th" is no good, it's ridiculous. I won't tell about the too many sequels (nine so far), the ones as silly as the others, made only for a commercial purpose.

In 1996, Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson made exactly the same thing with "Scream" (& sequels), taking the plot and putting it on a campus, with a cast of young actors looking like top-models and a result as bad as in this one.

Summary: Scary
Review: This is just plain freakin scary. No it isn't a Halloween rip-off. The first Friday the 13th and 1st Halloween have nothing in common. Halloween was scarier, but this one has more kills. A really scary movie!

Summary: A horror classic
Review: Friday the 13th is a good movie, although it probably would be better if it hadn't been followed by nine mediocre-to-bad sequels. By itself, however, the first installment of the franchise is pretty original. There are some good gory offings for the splatter fans out there and the infamous twist ending is still cool even by today's standards. The DVD picture quality is alright, however the sound would have benefited greatly from a 5.1 surround remixing. There are also no special features to speak of except a really bad trailer. Interviews with the now unknown cast (except Kevin Bacon, of course) would have been interesting at least, if not deleted scenes or something. I'm sure Paramount will come to their senses one of these days. They've been showing some improvement with the more recent Friday movies at least! :)

Summary: This is Great
Review: No this isn't as scary as Halloween or Nightmare on Elm Street, but before the ridiculous sequels came out and made him a joke, this was considered the 17th scariest movie of all time! This movie isn't full off all the old slasher jokes. The ones after this one did. This was original! Some reviewers complained about the bunch of kids going up to the woods even though hey heard about it's history. Please people, to them that was an urban legend and you know good and well that gets people to visit there! This film also had logic. The kids did try to call the police, they did stay in doors, plus none of them knew somebody was getting killed. They couldn't run any where because it was dark and they didn't know what was cahsing them. That means this film did have a plot and it made sense. Give it up. This film had more logic and sense then Nightmare on Elm Street, YOU KNOW THE PART WERE THE GIRL HEARS A MYSTERIOUS VOICE SAYING COME TO ME, AND THEN GOES OUT AND SEES WHO IT IS. You call this stupid. I guess you get the idea. This film scared people back when it came out, and would still have it's respect today if it wern't for the awful sequels that made him a joke. Alot of the negative reviews came from the people that though it was ripping off Halloween. It isn't. Most of the sequels do, but let's face it Halloween riped off Psycho and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Carpenter himself said it. Unlike halloween wich had a guy who couldn't be killed in it! This is much more realistic than Halloween. Kind of a reverse Ed Gein thing going on here. This is excellent full of cheap thrills, shocks, and authentic "get under your skin and stay there" scares. The only one worth seeing. Use your imagination and put yourself in the peoples shoes for the ultimate experience!

Review: No this isn't as scary as Halloween or Nightmare on Elm Street, but before the ridiculous sequels came out and made him a joke, everyone thought this film was scary. This movie isn't full off all the old slasher jokes. The ones after this one did. This was original! Now other ones after this created all the stereotypes, that some people (don't know why) thought this film was full of them. It wasn't. You get a the terror of the unseen for a good part of the film. The characters do have sex, but that's not unormal nowadays. This also had some psychological elements, and suggested horror in it. Yes some acting is bad, but some is pretty good. This is the only one to see. Die hard Jason fans don't like this one much, and you'll probably figure out why when you see it. Some reviewers complained about the bunch of kids going up to the woods even though hey heard about it's history. Please people, to them that was an urban legend and you know good and well that gets people to visit there! Besides know body believes in urban legends and even kids and young adults do things like this. I'm sure they thought it was just superstition. That means this film did have a plot, a simple and strait forward plot, but a plot none the less. It also made sense. Jason is like a [mentally challenged] Norman Bates in my opinion. This was also based loosely on an insident that occured in New Jersey. This is just as or even more realistic than Halloween. Kind of a reverse Ed Gein thing going on here. It is dark and you get the feeling of being trapped because they can't see who is killing them and for most of the movie, don't even know people are getting killed. This is excellent full of cheap thrills, shocks, and authentic "get under your skin and stay there" scares. The only one worth seeing. Use your imagination and put yourself in the peoples shoes for the ultimate experience!

Summary: Welcome to Crystal Lake!
Review: The Crystal Lake Camp is about to be re-opened years after a double murder took place at the camp site. The local residents believe the camp ground is haunted and possessed by a lethal curse, and they therefore avoid it at all costs. Despite the local folklore, some young camp leaders decide to take a job there and help get the camp ready for the opening that is scheduled within two weeks. This is a dire decision, since the local legend has some validity and the curse is about to take its course. The audience is left with a rather gory and scary film, which creates a feeling of paranoia along with the feeling of being watched.

Summary: Why don't they make them like this anymore?
Review: This movie has a classic vibe to it, the lighting, the perfect grammar, the scary music, the classy clothing, everything about this movie is so good. I love Paramount's DVD of the movie, it looks and sounds great! This is a classic that i will always keep in my dvd shelf. Mrs. Vorhees is very original and creepy. This movie somehow reminds me very much of the shining mixed with Halloween. See this classic now, they don't make scary movies like these anymore.

Review: I really like this movie. It's very entertaining. I would probably still get scared if I watched this at night. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys classic horror movies. It's really scary since it's in the woods.

Summary: JASON!
Review: This is the ONLY GOOD FRIDAY!... This one has some good scares in it. Better than Nightmare on Elm Street, but not better than Halloween. If you are thinking about buying it, also think about purchasing anoher slasher like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Nightmare on Elm Street, Psycho (1961), or Halooween, just to name a few.
