Rating: Summary: dog soilders Review: I loved this movie, its a shame a few more pounds wasn`t poured into the budget, but I think its the British (very dry) humor that carries this film. I was also very pleased that so many Americans enjoyed this film, and its nice to see a British film that isn`t in the line of Howards end or other dreary Merchant Ivory productions. ...

Rating: Summary: PREADATOR meets THE HOWLING meets EVIL DEAD meets JAWS Review: I must say I had heard great things but when I heard that this movie was debuting on the Sci-Fi channel I though how good could it be. Wow, was I in for a treat! DOG SOLDIERS is a mix of several classic horror films rolled into one delicious piece of frightful cinema. The film centers around a squad of British soldiers on a training mission in the Scottish wilderness who find a wounded Special Forces captain and the carnage of what used to be his team. As they encounter a female Ranger named Megan they soon find out that werewolves have been running rampant in the region. Soon enough, the ammunition runs low, the body count rises and the blood flows as the plot thickens. DOG SOLDIERS has a little bit of everything. It's gory, funny, and most importantly it knows never to take itself too seriously. Much like EVIL DEAD or even better yet, PREADATOR, the film is loaded with cheesey one liners and bloody action sequences. Sometimes you may even find yourself laughing during the films most gruesome scenes and director Neil Marshall has done this on purpose! The film boasts a great cast of British actors who deliver a script that is far better than the average horror film. A great mix of JAWS, PREADATOR, EVIL DEAD, AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, FROM DUSK 'TIL DAWN, ALIEN and PLATOON, yes, PLATOON. A must see. Check it out!
Rating: Summary: Best horror film in ages Review: I was lucky enough to get to see this at the cinema, and talk with the director+script writer. I'm a fan of the horror genre and this was one of the best films I've EVER seen. It lays the tension and suspense on in spades, superbly balanced with a black humour that is refreshing and frequently genuinely hilarious. WATCH IT!!! (Just not alone. +with all the lights on).
Rating: Summary: AN HONEST ACCOUNT Review: DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THE LOW BUDGET TAG OR THE LACK OF A LIST ACTORS. THIS FILM IS A NON STOP ROLLERCOASTER, YES THE PLOT MAY SOUND THIRD RATE. HOWEVER THE ACTION AND WELL WRITTEN HUMOUR IS SOMETHING THAT A LOT OF TODAYS EXPENSIVE FILMS WOULD DIE TO HAVE. IF YOU MISSED THIS FILM AT THE CINEMA SHAME ON YOU, SUPPORT BRITISH CINEMA RATHER THAN THE DULL EYE CANDY THAT HOLLYWOOD DISHES OUT. DO YOURSELF A FAVOUR AND RENT OR BUY THIS ON DVD OR VIDEO, YOU'LL BE GLAD YOU DID.
Rating: Summary: Finally a good Werewolf movie!! Review: If you have been totally [messed] over by the terrible Howling series of sequals to the most excellant werewolf movie at the time, "Howling" then friends your time has come. "Dog Soldiers" is at the top of my werewolf list with "Howling" & "American Werewolf in London". Tons of gratuitous gore, lots of fire power, you get to see the werewolves continually and the werewolves are great! I saw the edited TV version on Sci-Fi and ordered this puppy the next day. Cant wait to see what they edited out. Think "ALIENS" with hair!
Rating: Summary: A worthy follow-up and homage to American Werewolf in London Review: This is perfect popcorn entertainment for horror movie fans. On a seemingly low budget (without the use of any visual effects), the film perfectly blends ultra-gore with spontaneous moments of all-out comedy to great effect. The tension builds up very quickly in the first 20 or 30 mintues, then suddenly grabs everyone's attention with a level of gore so over the top that is surely intended for laughs as well as shocks. The film plays well as a rollercoaster ride, with sudden moments of tension, jumps and lots of laughs (due to the surprisingly well-written and very funny script). This genre of horror film plays exactly like the mood of American Werewolf aiming to scare (which it does successfully), but to entertain at the same time (through some hilarious lines and over-the-top gory effects). I'd guess the budget to be around 2 or 3 million pounds, maybe more. But it certainly deserves a wide release in America to reward it with the profits it deserves. Definitely buy the DVD for a great night-in with friends who enjoy horror movies.

Rating: Summary: Just when you think werewolves are passe ... Review: Just when you think werewolves have been done to death (pun intended), along comes Dog Soldiers to remind everyone that there can always be a new take on a tired subject. The action begins with a squad of British soldiers participating in war games. The first night out, the body of a large animal drops from the sky onto their campfire. Then things get weird. The photography is artistically done. The performances are topnotch and the action is nearly nonstop. The soldiers aren't stupid and they fight the monsters the best they can. Yes, there are cliches and tongue-in-cheek dialogue, but done so well you will still be on the edge of your seat. A little less blood and gore might have been nice. But even the squeamish will have a hard time looking away. Anyone who loves monster flicks, particularly old black and white, will love this movie. The film makers incorporated some of the best of films such as the original "The Thing", "From Dusk 'til Dawn," and other quality films. This is horror done well.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Low-Budget Action/Horror Review: Hey, this is a B-movie from the UK about a bunch of soldiers in the woods fighting off a pack of werewolves. A lot of people are going to avoid it just because of what it is. I just want to say that if you're the kind of person to whom the the premise sounds watchable, the movie will probably exceed your expectations. A couple professional touches lift this little flick way above the low-budget pack. First, the pacing is lickety-split; everything the viewer learns about what's happening, and who it's happening to, occurs while the action is rolling right along. Second, the actors are into their roles and perform with gusto. Their script is blunt and profane, avoiding 'Tarantino-wannabe" hipness and coming across pretty much like what a bunch of freaked out young soldiers might actually sound like. Third, the action is slick and thrilling. It's great to see budget constraints overcome by sheer imagination, as in the rip-snorting climax, which is over-the-top explosive despite the fact that it takes place entirely inside a small country house. Don't fall prey to the intolerance many modern genre fans have toward low budget films! It's the imagination that counts, and 'Dog Soldiers' has all it needs.
