Summary: Stephen King's Pet Semetary - Follows the book, but flawed
Review: After recently viewing this movie I found that Pet Semetary both, at times exceeded my expectations, but at others it seemed to lack some polish. At its heart, the idea for this movie is truly origional and has a trumendous amount of potential for horror, especially coming from the mind and guidence of Stephen King himself.
I will first start out with what was done in this movie to exceed my expectations. The acting of the character Judd Crandall was spectacular and very believable, as he took some of the scenes in the movie that could have been viewed by some as silly, from lack of a better word, and made them serious and real, despite their impossibility.
In addition, the fact that this movie follows Stephen King's novel is a plus, therefore showing the true genius that went into the novel that started it all.
On the negative side, the story did feel a little rushed, and the acting of Mr. and Mrs. Creed could have been better, in particular their reaction to their dead some returning, yet overall some scenes, like the "dirty little secret" scene has saved poor ratings and actually, if watched with an open mind, could actually be quite frightening.

Summary: Only movie that has ever scared me.
Review: I'd suggest passing on this one if you get scared easily. It's very very scary. And I don't say that about many movies. However, the story is very good. If you're a fan of Stephen King or the horror movie genre, you should check this movie out. It is very good.

Summary: You have to read the book
Review: Pet Sematary really can't stand alone. With the exception of the wonderful Fred Gwynn as neighbor Jud every actor is miscast. Too much plot is cut out of the movie and it suffers because of it. In the book you understand why poor obsessed Louis Creed does the things he does. In the movie you won't. When Louis buries baby Gage in the Indian burial ground it makes no sense. Judging from the unpleasantness with the cat, you'd think he'd no better but he doesn't. After Gage kills his mother Louis then buries Rachel and is killed by her. The movie just lacks too much heart to make me care about it.

Summary: Frightening... yet funny in a way
Review: This is one of the best movies of our time. It is about a man, named Louis Creed, who is a doctor, who has a bumper sticker that reads "HAVE YOU HUGGED YOUR M.D. TODAY?"(Oh jeez). But anyway, he is a man who befriends a neighbor, named Jud, that reveals to him the secret of the mysterious path. It leads to the Pet Sematary; a place where children bury their once-loved. After Louis's daughter's cat dies, Jud further reveals secrets of the Pet Sematary as they near it. Beyond the Pet Sematary is an old indian burial ground, thought to bring loved ones back. Cool. But, what that old coot failed to prepare Louis for was the fact that whatever was buried there came back EVIL (someone hold me). Louis did not find this out in time, and he made a huge mistake... and I am not talking about that cat!
Oh, I feel I must explain the humor. As scary of a plot as it is, I noticed certain things in the movie that made me laugh. Definately the bumper sticker, the rat in the bathtub, and a certain scene where Louis is raking. He rakes a tiny pile, then quits. Look at the ground; there's still leaves everywhere!
Bottom line: 5 stars, awesome cast, awesome plot, awesome movie. Long live Dale Midkiff!

Summary: Incredibly lame
Review: Having read Stephen King's novel twice, I decided it might be fun to watch the movie and see if they'd done a good job adapting this enthralling masterpiece. I should have known better...fortunately, the film hasn't managed to ruin my enjoyment of the book (which it could have). I don't understand how people can rate this movie so highly, even those who haven't read the book and so aren't influenced by the original story. But even judged on its own terms, the movie is so unbelievably lame it's almost comical. The characters are completely unconvincing, and there is no real suspense in the whole film. The script leaves out so much vital stuff that the story loses all its potency and just becomes laughable. If you only see the movie you will surely ask yourself, "What the hell was Louis Creed thinking, bringing his son and wife back from the dead? He was warned, wasn't he?" But if you read the book, you DO understand.
Don't bother seeing this. It's no good - compared to the book or otherwise.

Summary: A very disturbing and sad yarn from King.
Review: Two reviewers here said it perfectly with a few words.

1)Read the book and you'll appreciate this film more. This film might have some disturbing and sad parts(ie:Louis injecting undead Gage scene), but let me tell you, the book is tenfold. It is bar none, one of the best books I've ever read(in general), and by far: Steven King's best.

2)Very miscasted, Jud's character was the only one that had the right actor, but Dale Midkiff gave a good performance too, as Louis.

3)This is one of those horror movies that makes you think how terrible movies are today. Don't get me wrong-Stir of Echoes-GREAT MOVIE, but it's another one of the modern horror films in which directors think it is necessary to use camera tricks to scare people. Camera tricks weren't used back in the day to deliver the goods, and Pet Sematary is a great example of that!

Summary: Horror at it's best.

Summary: Stephen King...nuff said.
Review: Great adaptation of an even better book.

Summary: Not as effective as it was in 1989
Review: This was good back in 1989, but now it's far from disturbing. Granted, there are some scenes which are very sad still to this day (ie. when the boy gets hit by the truck), but overall the movie is too far-fetched for my liking. It's actually quite boring to watch second time around. It's one of those DVD's that perhaps can be left out of your treasured collection. I don't think any of Steven King's movies have stood the test of time.
