Summary: Funky old movie, ain't it
Review: The House on Haunted Hill is the most underrated movie of all time. This and Hollow Man are the creepiest movies I've ever seen. I didn't want to see this movie because I thought it was going to be like the scareless Haunting, which I suppose why it didn't make a lot of money. But when I did, I loved it. Geoffry Rush was surprisingly scary as Stephen Price, SNL's Chris Kataan was funny as the owner of the house who knows that he's dead, and Famke Jannsen was convincely psychotic as Price's Wife. The only flaw of this masterpiece was the unscary use of CGI towards the end. The psycology of the guests was very realistic. It told you that under the pressure and stress these people are under, they become just as dangerous as whatever's causing the trouble.

Summary: Better than I had expected
Review: Not knowing much about this movie, except for the basic premise - 5 strangers are invited to spend 1 night in a haunted house, if they succeed, 1 million dollars to each of them. If anyone leaves (or gets killed) before the next morning, the winner/s get to split the 5 million.The wife of an amusement park owner decides to have her birthday party at the house on haunted hill, which incidently was an insane asylum in it's day where the patients killed the sadistic staff. Her husband rewrites the guest list with only 5 names, however the 5 who turn up to the house are not the 5 anyone expected. What happens then is a lot of special effects - with the help of one of the employees from the amusement park and even more supernatural stuff. Later on you discover how these people were chosen and by who whilst they all remain locked inside. Was it the wife, the park owner or someone/thing more sinister? One by one they start to disappear. An interesting twist occurs around the middle of the movie. There were also quite a lot of familiar faces such as Spike from the "Buffy" series who has a cameo role at the beginning of the movie and Famke Jansen who seems who play a varied list of characters in her movies. Seen more recently as Dr Jean Grey in "X-men". What seemed strange was the fact that the guest list included all these attractive people. I guess this just makes the film more watchable, although I wasn't expecting the two main leads to be so likable. Just how many will make it through the night alive? Will they be able to find a way out before the evil catches them all and even if they do make it will they be able to escape with the money in tact? I guess you'll just have to wait and see...

Summary: Special Effects take over this movie!Watch the original!
Review: This remake is sadly just a big movie for special effects overkill!It's so much like "The Haunting " it's laughable!But if you must buy this movie do it on DVD! at least on DVD , we get commentary from the director,delated scenes(some of which I made the movie!), a compare and contrast between this "House" and the orginal with Vincent Price! But I prefer the orginal with it chessy effects and a great story about a wife plotting to kill her husband(in the original at least her plan backfires!)Do yourself a favor and skip this special effects overkill movie and watch the original instead!But if you have a DVD player by all means buy this movie and watch the special features in the DVD(it will make the remake made a litter more sense!)

Summary: Creepy and Fun, but Lame Ending
Review: Bloodthirsty ghosts running amock in a crumbling old insane asylum? Sign me up! Right from the start, you know you're in for some over-the-top, gorey fun. There are some extremely creepy moments, like whenever the sadistic doctor's jittery ghost appears on the closed-circuit TVs. Who cares that the towering hospital seems only to be have three floors, or that every evil nurse just happens to be a busty beauty? The filmmakers and the cast were evidently having a lot of fun, so just go along for the ride. The movie's chief flaw, I think, is that it's as unsuccessful as every other movie has been when it tries to give shape and form to the concept of "evil." The CGI guys throw everything but the kitchen sink into a formless, inky blob at the climax, trying to dazzle us with a mass of pure, menacing evil. The doctor and his giant knife were ten times scarier than this writhing, smokey mess. Remember the laughable finale of another recent remake, "The Haunting," with its big gooey blob of evil? Same problem here, but the DVD is still a hoot.

Summary: Pretty good!
Review: A group of strangers meet up and try to survive in a former mental hospital where some very interesting "treatments" were held. This movie is kind of strange, but if you get used to it, it is pretty cool. Also, if you're into heavy metal, Marylin Manson's version of "Sweet Dreams" makes a cool addition to the soundtrack!

Summary: Goes from fairly bad to worse....
Review: This is the first one star rating I have given and it is well deserved. Much of this movie makes no sense and the ending is so bad that my friend thought I was possessed because I was rolling my eyes in disgust so much. The plot revolves around Mr. Price who owns an amusement park empire. He and his reviling wife (played by a fetching, yet cold Famke Janssen) hate each other but throw this party at an insane asylum. He rips up her party list and creates a new one, only to have that one changed by a "mysterious force". The house on Haunted Hill you see, is haunted. Long ago, a crazy psychiatrist (see how important background checks are?) did some live human experiments, causing a riot, then a fire, then the deaths of all but 5 of the residents. These loonies, since they're crazy, can't go to heaven because Heaven, I guess, is like California (only for the beautiful people). So their now evil (and still loony) spirits are in the house and have taken it over. So now these 5 beautiful people (or fairly average looking if this is set in California) are in the house with the house owner, Mr. Price and his wife. Mr. Price offers $1 million to anyone who can survive the night (is SURVIVOR a spinoff of this movie?). There are major plotholes and so many things don't make sense. Like, WHY DO THESE PEOPLE HAVE TO GO DOWN INTO THE CREEPY BASEMENT ON THEIR OWN ALL THE TIME? Every character is a piece of cardboard and have even less personalities. All we know about almost all these people are their names and job title. We never really find out WHY THEY WOULD ACCEPT AN INVITATION TO THE HOUSE OF A PERSON THEY HAVE NEVER MET? Other plotholes, points of stupidity and other dumb things: 1. If the house invited them, then why did they all get limo rides to the house? Who made up their invitation cards? 2. Why did that ghost save Eddie Baker at the end of the movie, but let's everyone else die? 3. How did Dr. Blackburn get invited, even though he was not invited by the house or Mr. Price? 4. How come all the guns have real ammo but one suddenly does not? How could Mr. Price control that? 5. If this house is so severly haunted and the owner knew about it, why didn't Watson Pritchett call the Ghostbusters? Even though the last one was in jest, this movie has so many flaws, so many unanswered questions, so many unexplained happenings that it just can't be believed. I wonder if producer Joel Silver even read the script? The movie does have it's thrills in the beginning and the double crosses had some measure of promise, but by the time the "evil" is release, the movie goes from a spook-fest to an over-the-top EFX festival like that other really bad horror movie, "The Haunting". If they opened a Webster's Dictionary and looked up the definition of "subtlety", they might of had a far superior movie. The "evil" was the big joke of the movie according to me and my friends. It was just so....generic. If you have just too much money to waste, you can either go out and by this on DVD, but I prefer that you give it to charity instead (at least you can get a tax deduction on that). If you are a Taye Diggs, Famke Janssen or Geoffrey Rush Fan, try watching Go!, Rounders or Shine instead. You've been warned...only fans of truly bad movies need attend this waste of good actors in a stink-fest movie....

Summary: Excellent horror flick
Review: I have enjoyed the original house on haunted hill with Vincent Price for years and I was therefore very reluctant to see this remake. Most remakes generally cannot do justice to the original film, but this film was spectacular! It really had some scary parts not just the run of the mill grafic violent scenes and stupid dialog that so many of todays scary movies have.

Summary: Much better than The Haunting!
Review: Very rarely does a horror movie suceed on so many levels. The acting is top notch, but that is to be expected from the experienced cast. Geoffrey Rush and Famke Jannsen were perfectly cast as the creepy billionaire and his wife who can barely stand to be in the same room as him, let alone love him. However, it is Chris Kattan who steals the show, with his performance as the eccentric owner of the House on Haunted Hill. The dialogue flows very well for the most part, which is quite a switch from that of The Haunting. Another high point of this frightening flick is the soundtrack. While you wouldn't think this is important, Don Davis builds suspense quite well with his score of the film. The only problem with Haunted Hill is its special effects, or lack thereof. The ending sequence seems to use up all of the films' special effects budget. However, this small flaw can be overlooked. The best thing about the film is that it builds genuine suspense rather than false scares. So in conclusion, if you're looking for a different scary movie not involving someone screaming because they know an urban legend about someone who knows what they did last summer, then definitely give House on Haunted Hill a look. It's well worth the money.

Summary: Great remake!
Review: This remake actually makes more sense than the original (not that the original wasn't great) and I really liked it alot. It really creeped me out, though, and I would not recommend it to everyone. The beggining scene is the most graphic scene in the movie. It was great movie!
