Rating: Summary: One of the most enjoyable movies to come along in a while. Review: I found Event Horizon a combination of what starts out as a classic Sci-Fi movie and suddenly and dramatically you find yourself in a classic Horror movie, then back and then they merge into one, unbelieveablely fantastic edge of the seat, white knuckle thriller. I have enjoyed it several times. Well worth the price!
Rating: Summary: Very poor Review: "How can we update the old haunted house/demonic possession/gory death/gotta get out of here storyline and convince people to buy tickets?" "I know - let's make the house a spaceship and the usual paranormal whacko ripe for possession is the guy that built the spaceship" "Cool - let's do it and if we title it Event Horizon, we can label it science fiction"Very poor reworking of the standard horror movie involving haunting/possession with a near criminal mis-labeling as science fiction. The only saving grace is the special effects...
Rating: Summary: This movie scared me to death---that's good! Review: I watched this with my husband and we were both covering our eyes at some points. That is a good horror movie! I love horror movies and I have seen just about all of the popular ones ---old and new. This one did the trick for me. I agree with another reviewer----I am sick of "I Know What You did Last Summer" type movies. This was original and literally kept you on the edge of your seat! I was TERRIFIED!!!!
Rating: Summary: An excellent Movie with a possible lesson Review: I know a lot of people gave "Event Horizon" a bad review, but I really liked the movie. It is an edge-of -your-seat, SF/Terror movie that kept you wondering what was around the next bend. Yes, it was rather gory at parts, but, looking at the overall storyline, if it wasn't that gory it would have made no sense! The special effects were wonderful, and the acting was great. I found the story line to be efficiantly brought about, as well as understandable. I also thought it contained a bit of a lesson- don't mess with black holes, you never know where you'll end up!
Rating: Summary: Great Movie Review: This movie is one of my favorites. After watching it I could not go to sleep. I stayed up all night in my room just thinking about it!
Rating: Summary: Pretty darn good! Review: I thought Event Horizon was a unique blend of sci-fi and horror. I do not know what is up with all these one star reviews... But it was very suspenseful and there were more than a few surprises...It definitely kept my attention throughout. The plot was quite good and I thought the explanation of folding space was cool. It made me think.
Rating: Summary: Scariest sci-fi horror thriller ever Review: Event Horizon is a truly scary thriller that was overshadowed by a typical, bad slasher flick called I Know What You Did Last Summer. Event Horizon successfully blends elements from other horror and sci-fi films such as The Shining, Alien, and Dune. The movie is about a deep space research vessel called the Event Horizon that creates an artificial black hole and disappears in it along with her crew for seven years. It reappears mysteriously over the Neptune orbit. USAC sends an eight person rescue team to the ship along with her designer, Dr. William Weir. Not long after they board the Event Horizon, their own ship, the Lewis and Clark is damaged and they must take refuge in the Event Horizon. It's then that the movie delves into true terror as the crew of the Lewis and Clark begin to believe the ship brought something alive back with it. I liked this movie more than Alien because it wasn't quite as predictable. All the performances in this movie were good, especially the British actors Sam Neil, Sean Pertwee, and Jason Isaacs. Neil plays the ship's designer, Dr. Weir, who is possessed by the ship. This is his most outstanding performance since Jurassic Park. Laurence Fishburne is almost as good as the courageous Captain Miller. He's the most likeable of the crew memebers and you know he'll try his best to help his men. This movie is also extremely bloody and gory with many scenes of people being cut apart and dying gruesome deaths. Despite all that, the movie delivers chills and shocks that many other horror movies released this decade couldn't. The only other more recent horror films of this caliber are Phantoms, Candyman, and Fallen. I'm also confused why critics said the events on board the ship were never explained. Maybe it's just me, but the explanation was stated a few times. It's brief, but there isn't more to be added to it.
Rating: Summary: It Got Me! Review: I like SF and have seen a lot of it. I don't like horror as much, but can appreciate a good horror flick. This movie is a great combination of both genres and I will recommend it. I think it's a sign of a good to great movie when emotions run to the extreme among viewers. Don't watch it if you are easily upset by the "fear of the unknown" factor that can be easily avoided in our everyday existence.
Rating: Summary: Not as bad as I thought it would be Review: I guess I am getting old. I used to love movies with gore! I would go see anything that was scary. Now days, I avoid them. But, I was brave, and I picked up Event Horizon. I am a big Sci-Fi fan. Even Horizon pulled me in. I found the story to be very interesting and the gore didn't bothe me as much as the idea that this ship might have gone to hell and back. It was scary and I enjoyed it. The ending scenes were a bit of a let down, kind of like Sphere, but I enjoyed the final scene. Not as bad as some people say, but then again, I loved LOST IN SPACE and I felt Batman and Robin wasn't that bad. Go figure!
