Review: This is the simplest movie ever! The kids wake up, get lost, go to bed and get scared, wake up and get lost some more. You go into the theatre expecting such a mind blowingly scary film that you are almost creaming your pants already...when you come out, you are so let down that people have believed the film was so good. It is not a bad film, but it is not what you would expect...it's definitely a new take on the genre and will change how films are made... The hype was just hype and did not meet the film at least half way...clever marketing and publicity have made the film what it is...nothing more. Rent the film and save yourselves a few pennies...however, the ending was quite good...

Summary: BRILLIANT FILM MAKING!!
Review: I went to see Blair Witch in the movies having known too much information about the whole controversery surrounding it. and was still scared witless!!! and i was more scared after the movie when i was lying in bed , i couldn't sleep just thinking about it! This is probably the most intelligent horror movie of all times, it's more hitchcockian than craven or king... it has a brain and didn't have to use gore to sell it. at least not to the people that got this movie. alot of people just weren't paying attention and didn't understand the ending. one person i talked to actually thought there would be a sequel. DUH!!! This movie is perfect just the way it is. This is one for intelligent, open minded movie goers... skip it if you thirst blood and gore.. this is a psychological thriller.

Review: i couldent sleep the frist night i seen it. i had to sleep in the liveing room wiht my mom cause i though that the thing that got the people down to the basement would get my mom to come down and then kill her.everyone say it anit scary but it is.

Review: It was not worth the time and effort the movie maker put in to it. The movie really never showed who or what took the three people and it really wasn't scary at all. Scream was better than the Blair Witch.

Review: Well, yea it was a clevar way to film a movie i'll give them that, but why the hell did everyone think it was so scary? I actually found myself bored in a couple of parts. overall, it could have been better than everyone made it out to be.

Summary: Why all the hostility?
Review: If you liked The Blair Witch Project, I congratulate you. You obviously possess an incredible imagination and intellect. But you must understand that many people did not care for it. It was not a genre-defining or life-defining event. It was a movie, nothing more. The reviews I have read by people who love this movie do nothing more than spew the same bile as the insipid characters in this piece of garbage. I didn't realize that a hack film could inspire so much psychoanalysis.

Summary: Proving that IL&M does not make the movie
Review: In a word...WOW! This movie is easily one of the best of the year, and possibly one of the best in its genre for all-time. It may, however, present problems for some people. I have seen negative reviews (of the movie) and negative reviews (about the people that do not like this film.) The vast majority of people that did not like BWP seem to complain that the movie was just not scary enough, or did not understand the hype around it. Some of the people that did enjoy the film seem to take personal offense that others could not take the same experience away from BWP that they did, and just cannot figure out why anyone would not find it to be scary. The blame with not finding the fear involved in the film lies not with the people who saw the movie and could not get scared, but rather with hollywood. As special effects have progressed, the ability to create more life-like monsters have also. Every creature created as of late has become so realistic that even the once necessary "spooky shadows" that would have helped hide the creatures (see Alien/ Aliens), leaving some detail to our imagination (and also hiding imperfections in what was the current technology.) Nowadays, the monsters can be shown in full daylight (see The Mummy) without worry. See what I'm getting at? Imagination. What was once an intrical part of the genre has become unnecessary to the point that when a movie forces us to use it, we become disappointed. Like a good horror novel, if you were to ask 100 different people to describe the monster (or witch, in this case) you very well may end up with 100 different opinions. This is a great movie (a modern masterpiece?) not only because of the imagination issue, but also because of the characterization and the use of a first person perspective throughout the film. You feel for the characters because their relationships amongst one another is real. (The actors were left out in the woods depending on each other with very little direction from the directors.) You can feel their terror, because when they were scared, they were scared. (The "attacks" and the "surprises" were set up when they were unaware.) The use of the first person perspective really adds to bringing you in and making you a part of their experience rather than using typical Hollywood camera angles that would allow you to see what was coming before the actors got hit with it. And though the movie was not flawless, (ie: follow the river) not many movies are. (You can generally find more things wrong with other films than you can here.) A word to the wise: read all you can about the making of the film, watch the bonus featurette on the dvd (originally aired on Sci-Fi Channel) and visit the website. It adds to the movie and the overall experience. When you sit down to watch this movie, do it late at night, turn off the lights, and most importantly, watch it when you have nothing else on your mind. In order to fully enjoy the BWP, you need to allow yourself to be sucked in and be a part of it. So sit back, try to relax, and be prepared to be genuinely scared for the first time in a long time.

Summary: Overhyped....more a marketing miracle than celluloid miracle
Review: You know, I'm really beginning to believe that there aren't any decent independent films anymore, and the ones that do get hyped are mediocre at best. The "Blair Witch Project" is more a triumph of marketing than filmmaking. So what if the web-site had 2 million hits, the movie isn't that great. The film spends to much time focusing on the arguments between the the three main characters, who by the way aren't that interesting to begin with. They seem like your stereotypical college filmmaker types. At one point I was hoping that whatever was out in the woods would make it quick, so I didn't have to listen to them anymore. Also, for a movie that has such a short running time, it seemed like I was in there forever. I even got up at one point to the dismay of my friends and went out and had a smoke. O.K., another scene where they are screaming at each other...gimme a break. Remember just because something is low budget, does not necessarily make it superior to a film with a bigger budget. And vice versa You know, I really wanted to like this film, even though when a film gets the amount of hype like this one, I get a sinking feeling that it will not live up to it. Isn't it funny how many people criticize mainstream Hollywood films by saying they use marketing to sucker people into seeing bad movies. Well, in the case of "The Blair Witch Project" I guess independent filmmakers can be just as guilty of milking the hype-machine for all it's worth. I'm not saying it's wrong to make money and have people see your film, it just seems that the mediocre films always end up cashing in.
