Summary: Watch out for the Tooth Fairy !
Review: Granted this was one of those scary movies where you know what is coming next,.. FOR SOME PARTS. This is a pretty good thriller,. Maybe not a top one for those diehards but for the average it is great. And how many people would come up with a story about a Fairytale creature who kills ? I was hesitant about certain parts where I was thinking,. Time to get up and go I dont want to see this part..

Summary: Its better than they are saying
Review: I cannot believe a lot people did not like this, I was hesitant about renting it after reading the average review for it, but I must say it was way better! great horror flick. I did not give it 5 stars though, because there is better horror movies than this (and about 10 million that are worse). My only other beef is it good have had more violence, needed more gore!!!

Summary: Gimme a break - this horrible movie reeked of cliches
Review: How can anybody say this was a good movie?! The plot was weak, full of holes, cliches and the evil spirit was more of a laughable joke. I was expecting the evil character to cross her arms and start breakdancing to the music as the credits roll because that's how comical I found this pathetic movie to be. Every cliche is there. The puffy-eyed, pale-faced 8 year old boy who sees dead people, the stupid slew of characters that happen to find their way in the path of the evil spirit and the weakest main male character I've ever saw. No man in the real world would let an evil spirt or monster attack his mother and not defend her. The main male character in the movie was a punk all the way to the end of the movie.

Summary: Vastly overrated ghost story
Review: I eagerly watched "Darkness Falls" after reading a recommendation that it's even better than "The Ring". Sorry. No cigar. Granted, it's better than most of the dreck coming out of Hollywood that's supposed to pass for horror. But that's not saying much. The creators of "DF" seemed to say "let's take the best elements from the last two successful scarey flicks and combine them into one movie". Since "The Blair Witch Ring" would've been too obvious, I guess they settled on "Darkness Falls". Okay, I'm a jaded, middle aged horror film connoisseur, sure, but even my seventeen year old thought it was a big disappointment.

Summary: My dog, who rocks, fell asleep!
Review: I've loved horror movies since I was a kid, and I guess I've seen so many, there's really nothing new or surprising. Why do I still watch them? Maybe habit. Maybe I keep hoping I'll see something really scary. Lest I be misunderstood, I don't enjoy blood, gore, etc. (Yeah, I even remember seeing the previews of "Blood Feast," which I think started gore ad nausea, when I was in college. I've yet to see this gem, and I really don't care to subject myself to it.)

So on the positive side "Darkness Falls" spares us blood and guts, though I wonder why a few four-letter words had to be uttered. I'm not Paul Prude at the Puritan Party--I advise a fraternity at the college where I teach--I simply think it's ridiculous to include certain words for a PG-13 rating.

No, I didn't find the movie scary, but "The Ring" also disappointed me. For some reason, using the Tooth Fairy as the bad girl I find amusing, but I have a warped sense of humor. I haven't read all the reviews, but "Darkness Falls" also reminded me of "The Blair Witch Project"--what a waste of the audience's time and money, though P. T. Barum would be proud. Again, we have a female witch (or fairy or whatever) roaming the woods, and at times I'm not sure what's going on.

Overall, this is not a bad movie--but it's not that good either.
It's all been done. And Kimball, my wonderful dog, dozed off. I may have done the same. . . .

Summary: It's worth seeing at least once......
Review: In the town of Darkness Falls, receiving nothing for putting a tooth under your pillow is a blessing in itself considering the alternative.

Darkness Falls once had a benevolent old woman who would give a gold coin in exchange for a child's lost baby tooth. After the disappearance of 2 town children, blamed on the woman "tooth fairy", she was wrongfully put to death and subsequently cursed the town when the 2 children were found alive and well.

The focal character is a child who, after losing a tooth in the movie's beginning, peeks at the tooth fairy creature (stemming from the curse) and is pursued and tormented to no end. It seems that the only way to avoid the terror of this creature is not to look at it directly, according to legend. Those who do look at it full in the face have a date with death.

In the essence of not being a spoiler and giving away too much plot, suffice it to say that an eventual battle ensues against this sinister entity in Darkness Falls after it repeatedly attacks town residents and causes general mayhem.

In good faith, I'll refrain from calling this movie a top notch suspense thriller but it doesn't fall flat by any means either. The plot may be called too manufactured by some or maybe underdone by others in some areas but there are a surprisingly good number of creepy scenes that make you jump. The camera work is nicely done and the special effects are worth their weight. The creature itself may be reminiscent of other horror movies to a degree but the way it is employed in the movie appears to be interesting and impressive.

Although not destined for greatness in the horror genre of films, Darkness Falls was an honest attempt at some good thrills and chills. It's not the best you'll ever see but it is probably worth renting at least once to experience a foray into the frightening and the unexpected.

Summary: Has Some Redeeming Value
Review: Our story begins in the town of Darkness Falls. Naturally all towns in New England are on the coast, all have a lighthouse, and all have unusual names. Darkness Falls has an interesting curse. Once upon a time there was a kindly old lady who gave children gifts in exchange for their baby teeth. The biggest problem with the old lady was that she was horribly disfigured from a fire and wore a mask. Of course the local townspeople suspected something kinky about the old lady, and when two children disappeared she was blamed and hung. However, before she was hung she laid a curse upon the town. At this point the story reminds me somewhat of John Carpenter's "The Fog", or the beginning of "Salem's Lot".

Once we have this history out of the way, we meet a young boy who loses his last baby tooth, and, as many of us did when we were his age, we put the tooth under our pillow hoping to have it exchanged for a gift. Unfortunately, in the town of Darkness Falls if you look at the ghost of the old lady playing the tooth fairy, she kills you in a horrible way. The boy in our story sees the old lady and manages to get away. His mother tells the boy it's all in his mind and goes to check out the noise. You need little imagination to know what comes next. Our hero is taken away to another town, and everyone in Darkness Falls thinks he's crazy and many think he killed his mother.

We fast forward 12 years to find that the young boy (our hero), has an intense fear of the dark, and never goes into the dark. He usually carries around bags of flashlights, flares, and a variety of other devices to assure he'll never be in the dark, because the dark is where the mask-wearing ghost of the old lady hides (light burns her, so she stays out of it). A woman he knew as a girl in Darkness Falls calls him for help because her brother has started to act in the same weird way that he did, and isn't it nice how he has grown out of his childhood fears. She will learn soon enough that he hasn't grown out of those fears.

Our hero comes back to Darkness Falls to do battle with the old lady, or at least we hope so. The middle portion of the movie may remind some ardent horror fans of the cat and mouse chases with the werewolf in Stephen King's movie "Silver Bullet". After a number of false starts in battling the old woman, she really gets into her killing and our hero gets into running away. In fact, I'm not sure the movie ever would have ended had the old lady not chased our hero down.

While some parts of the movie were a bit cheesy, I like the general concept. I particularly appreciated that the director did not need blood glopping all over the place to describe the various deaths. There were a few places where I jumped. There were a number of cliches, but in this day and age it is difficult to avoid all cliche.

I thought this movie was decent. Not great, but in the same general league as the recent movie "Ghost Ship", though with less creativity. I think this movie is a must-see for horror fans and those for whom horror movies are occasional indulgences. For people who are not horror fans and yet have watched many horror films, you might want to pass this one by. One mercy: The film is very short and is a quick watch.
