Summary: One of the SCARIEST movies ever!
Review: I hadn't seen The Exorcist before it's re-release at the theatre this year. Obviously to me it was "The Version You've Never Seen" but I didn't think that The Exorcist would have anything special i haven't seen before in horror films. Was I in for a shocker. Whether it comes from the movies physical aspects or mental and psychological aspects this WILL scare you. Spinning heads, spider walks, pea soup vomitting and using a crucifix... well,in a very explicit way adds up to some extremely freaky scenes. These people can act too! Linda Blair probobly still surprises the heck out of herself that this was her. WOW! You just have to see this movie! Great plot! Great acting! Great effects! What else could you want. Religious people beware! This is a definite buy for my collection! Yours should have it too!

Summary: The Scariest Movie Ever
Review: I just watch this movie Oct the 13th on a Friday(Friday the 13th), and I'll just say I almost did not get to sleep. I love scary movies and have always been a big fan, but most do not truley scary me. While watching this movie on the big screen, was so deeping bothering to me. I couldn't believe I was so scared and distured I was suffering from Heartburn! I had to plug my ears and close my eyes!! The sound effects and they words that were coming out of her mouth were terrifying!! And I am hard to scare. I know that the movie that was released had some extra footage that this DVD might not, but still it will scare you to the bone. I also want to add that the shots that were added to the Exorcist, that came out in Oct 2000, were the scarest, most disturbing things i had ever seen, I know why they weren't released with the original!! This is a great movie for any Horror Fan. I highly recommend it!!

Summary: SCARIER THAN BLAIR WITCH!
Review: I brought this movie on DVD because I really wanted to see it and hoping that I would like it and I did. But this movie gave me the chills when I first saw it. I was watching it alone on a rainy day and I enjoyed the whole movie. But what creeps me out about it is that the little girl is possessed by the devil and that is so scary! The DVD restored version is great though. It has some good extras including the theatrical trailer to Exorcist 1 and 2. But the second one doeesn't look very good. I think that this movie is the best out of all three. I would give it more than 5 stars I would give it 10. Let me give you a little warning if you see this movie for your first time you'll have many sleepless nights wandering what's in your room and you'll have a hard time sleeping from seeing this movie. This is one of those movies that might give you nightmares so watch out! When I saw the Blair Witch Project it didn't scare me that much but when I saw this movie it scared me a bunch of times. So if your scared about this movie I wouldn't see it but if you really want to see this movie go get it. I mean I think your suppose to be scared of this movie right that's what it's all about!

Summary: Disturbing
Review: Normally I don't like to use excerps from other's reviews in my own but after reading Peacebm's I felt it was neccesary. As he puts it, the Excorcist lacks the potency of horror classics like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre.

I personally have never seen what is so scary about slasher films and if your idea of a frightening movie is seeing a bunch of half naked girls being chopped into little pieces than the Excorcist probably isn't for you.

What really makes the Excorcist such a terrifying movie is that it sets an incredibly disturbing atmosphere that remains present throughout the film. It doesn't just through in alot of quick shocks but manages to actually disturb the audience on a level that few things can and make them cringe on the inside.

Summary: Doesn't live up to it's celebrated reputation.
Review: Yes, this film was amazing. The cinematography was second to none, especially the brief glimpses of demonic images. The acting was phenominal, I can't imagine many 12 year old girls dying to play the part of Regan. Linda Blair really ousted herself in a flawless performance. But where "The Excorcist" works on it's highest level is its' atmospheric prowess. Friedkin manages to maintain a sincere, calm tone throughout the entire film despite all the chaos going on. When its all said and done, it baffles to me as to why this film has been "dubbed" greatest horror movie of all time. Simply put, this film did not evoke any fright from me. Small intermittent moments of the film were creepy, but that is nothing too hard to accomplish. The film wasn't even totally original, alot of its themes were introduced in "Rosemary's Baby" in 1968. Made in 1973, The Excorcist has been countlessly praised as the greatest horror film of all time. Ironically enough, it wasn't even the best horror film to come out of 73' ! That my friends would be a little film made by a couple of college kids in the backwoods of rural Texas, "the Texas Chainsaw Massacre".

I measure horror in terms of potency, and The Excorcist has very little of it.

Summary: Scary in 1973 maybe....
Review: Ok so I went and saw the Excorcist in the theatre. So someone wanna tell me what the big deal is? The devil takes over Linda Blairs body and then proceeds to make her puke up green stuff and yell childish insults at priests. So what? I pissed on my parents carpet when I was a little kid to. The actors seem a little casual about having Satan in the next room. They hang out and sip coffee. Theres even a scene where we see Ellen Burstyn ironing something. "Gee we have the embodiment of all evil upstairs, so do you take cream in that?". Normally I would let forth a huge string of obscenities but this is the amazon.com page so I will relax on that. I'm glad I only paid matinee instead the bloated evening show cost. Like I was saying I think that the characters were a little to hoky for their own good. How do you even keep your sanity knowing that the very devil himself is in the next room much less talk on the phone. It would have been more interesting to see the mother tear her house apart and turn it into some sort of holy sanctuary in a fit of insanity. The characters just don't react the way they should in the face of pure evil. The rest of this hackjob doesn't even matter because when you have shoddy characters not a single other element can save it. Maybe the devil convinced people this movie was good.....

Summary: True Art
Review: This film adaptation of Blatty's novel is phenomenal. True art seems to be that which shakes us at the core of our being... this film does just that. Although trivialized as either Catholic propaganda or another horror flick, it is something more. It is a film bold enough to tackle theological and philosophical issues, often lacking in conventional Hollywood tripe. While it is difficult to watch at times, this is a film that WILL change you (hopefully for the better!). The BBC documentary included with the 25th Anniversary Special Edition is also interesting to watch. While I have not seen the restored theatrical release, I've heard some contextual elements (edited out of the 1973 original) were included. I guess it is like the restoration of Da Vinci's "The Last Supper"... a refinement of an already existing masterpiece.

Summary: one of the most scary movies of all time?
Review: One of the most scary movies of all time? I would not say that, but it was a fantastic movie. I mainly enjoyed it because it was a well thought out film. Dispite the movie being great, I only gave the movie 4 stars due to there being a lot of vulger material included. By this i mean some of the lines in the script were gross and pretty much not needed. I know that the girl was possesed by the devil and of course she would use such language and experessions, but the fact of the matter is that it was discusting. However it did have its parts where you jump and it's parts where you are in suspense and terrified at the same time. I loved this movie. It is a must see.

Summary: Astonishing Package
Review: This eternally shocking and sadistic masterpiece is a must-have for any DVD collection. The picture quality is clear and crisp enough to catch all the holy symbolism, the contrasting cinematography of the gorgeous desert sand and the chilly gloom of autumn Georgetown, and also the claustrophobic bedroom of possessed Regan. For anyone who was too young to experience this in a theater and was reduced to watching a hacked-up version on TV: BUY THIS NOW!!!!

Directed by true maverick William Friedkin, this film also has a great share of noteworthy performances, especially Linda Blair who was only twelve(!!) when this was made. I also have to give a hardy applause to the people responsible of picture and sound editing.

The extras in this Special Edition make it all the better when you find out the motives of making the movie with virtually everyone involved in a great BBC documentary (one debit: an annoying narrator). To get a peek at the design of make-up, the special effects tricks, the production design, talent rehersals, et al. makes you appreciate this stepping stone to a new age of horror films even more.

Summary: The 2000 version is the best compared to the 1973 version.
