Rating: Summary: A tribute to a great actor... Review: Knindred the Embraced was to be the series to catapult Mark Frankel/Julian Luna to stardom if not for his unfortunate and heartbreaking death in a motorcycle accident in England during a break in filming. To him I make a toast " The greatest talent that the world will never know" A brilliant series with brilliant actors...
Rating: Summary: a amazing show that deserved to gone on longer! Review: Kindred: The Embraced is an awesome show that captures the viewers attention. it has great writers and directing. I think the actors especially made the show memorable. It takes a new twist on vampire lore but supports its ideas and makes it believeable. The DVD is worth it because it has a never before aired episode on it. The only thing you don't like when your done is the cliffhanger that it leaves you with. This show is for any true Scifi fan and it helps the regular viewer start to get into the scifi realm. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: K:TE is great* Review: *For any who follow Vampire: The Masquerade. If you have at least a passing familiarity with the subject matter, than this collection is a wonderous work of filmfiction. Even if you don't, this tale of vampires and their struggle within their own intricate politics is intriguing to say the least! The story is basic enough so as not to confuse new veiwers, but subtle enough so that V:TM's hardcore fans will not feel left out in the cold. Also, a slight note of warning. Even though this series was shown on television, I would give it a definite PG-13 rating- it's not for everybody. But if the intricacies of vampires following their own agenda and ruling the night is your cup of tea, then step into Julian Luna's parlor, my friends.
Rating: Summary: A Must-See for Vampire fans and players alike Review: I have not yet purchased this video, but fully intend to. I have seen all of the episodes on this set, and enjoyed them immensly. As an avid player of White Wolf's Vampire game, it was interesting to see creatures like I had played come alive on screen. For those who just enjoy a good Vampire story, these have it all; from politics to love, and family feuds. Highly recommended!
Rating: Summary: X-Files meets Melrose Place Review: What happens when you combine the X-Files and Melrose Place? And add in some of the Sopranos for good measure? You get this wonderful TV series, Kindred the Embraced.I enjoyed this show very much when it aired on Fox in 1996. I had forgotten nearly all of the plots from the episodes, so watching it again DVD was almost like watching it for the first time. Well worth the money considering all eight episodes sell for the price that you'd usually pay for just one two hour movie. I thought that the series was canceled because there was a vast conspiracy to remove from the airwaves only the shows that I liked. But it turns out the real reason is that an actor who played one of the main characters died. I think some of the less than stellar reviews come from people who just don't appreciate all of the genres this series mixes together. I enjoyed watching Melrose Place, but I suspect that Melrose Place type shows aren't that interesting to a lot of the people who were into the book and the role playing game that this show was based on (I never even knew there was a role playing game until reading these reviews). On the other hand, if you liked Melrose Place, but don't like seeing lot of corpses and other X-Files type stuff, you probably also won't enjoy this series very much. The very beautiful Kelly Rutherford who is one of the main characters in this series (but who doesn't show up until the second episosde) appeared on Melrose Place the next season, as the hooker who then became Michael Mancini's wife who then became his divorced wife who looked down upon Michael because of his loose morals. The only downside of this series is that it just leaves you hanging without any sort of resolution. As one would expect from a TV series that was suddenly canceled. Also, the penultimate episode, "Bad Moon Rising," was pretty weak in my opinion. Otherwise, highly recommended for a very enjoyable six and a half hour viewing marathon.
Rating: Summary: Vampire Drama Review: First of all, the series is loosely based on a series of books AND the rpg's that are so popular. (Yes, there were actually novels that didn't involve how to convert rpg characters)I say "loosely" because although the clan names and characters are similar, the tv series has it's differences. Those that enjoy watching Buffy will enjoy watching this mini-series. It's got some action, drama and romance all mixed together. It can be a bit gruesome at times, but it is tolerable. The cliffhanger at the end still bugs me, but in all honesty, it would have been hard to continue production without Mark Frankel(?) aka Julian Luna, the main character, who had died unexpectedly in a motorcycle crash. It's a shame really, because I believe this series could have really taken off with a little more work. Nonetheless, the story is good and is a beautiful tribute to his memory.
Rating: Summary: I is dumber for watching this. Review: After being a huge fan of the White Wolf genre, this was enough for me to quit just so White Wolf would not have the money to authorize anything like this ever again. If you want to bring a story as complex as the World of Darkness to life you do not hand it over to the idiot who made 90210. Any White Wolf fan out there should cringe in horror that this was ever aired. DO NOT BUY IT, it is a waste of money. The Buffy series stayed closer to the Masqurade than this ever did. I am serious, I had to drink heavily with other WW players just to make it through..........that way I could attribute the memories to druken hallucinations and a really bad hangover.
Rating: Summary: A great show with lots of potential Review: Kindred: The Embraced is loosely based on the role-playing game Vampire: The Masquerade. The clan names, appearances of the clan members, and their associated powers remain true to the game itself. The characters and settings are dynamic and the story line of each episode remains true to the overall line of the series - "We are all around you." This series was wonderfully adapted from the game, and it's a shame that the show was brought to an untimely end by the tragic death of Mark Frankel who played Julian Luna, the "Prince of the City" and central character.
Kindred shows a great deal of potential as a series. One of its strengths is in not relying on heavy, flashy special effects. Rather it allows for the mind's ability to scare itself silly through the power of suggestion. So much potential resides within the evolving story line and dynamic characters.
I, for one, would love to see someone revive it, thought I have my doubts of that actually happening. Kindred will forever remain one of vampire fiction's cult classics.
Rating: Summary: Kindred The Embraced - Why It Was Cancelled Review: The show was awesome back when it aired. It had great potential. Unfortunately The Star Mark Frankle who played Julian, Died in a motorcycle accident and that is why it was cancelled.
Rating: Summary: Not as good as it could have been...but better than expected Review: I wanted to like this show. And I did for the first couple episodes. Once I got over the whole vampires walking around during the day thing, I was starting to get into the blossoming political intrigue of the war for supremacy between the Ventrue and the Brujah. Then all the sudden it turned into Vampire Hills 90210 with over the top love stories and cheesy storylines. Now mind you, as a Dark Shadows fan, I don't neccessarily mind cheesy, but the series starting to faintly smell of daytime soap. And daytime soap and vampires are not a good mix. But the actors themselves did a fine job considering the scripts they were given, and the series is worth a watch if you're looking for something that isn't going to tax the brain to heavily. The final episode actually gives the best glimpse of what the series COULD have been, and probably goes a long way to redeem some of the other missteps the writers took.
