Summary: Good acting with a watery story.
Review: First off I must say I was quite impressed with Johnny Depp's acting in this movie. He is a great Icabod! However the good parts of the movie basically end there. The problem with this movie is that they did not make it long enough. Instead of developing charecters and plot Tim Burton just tries to throw in some visual effects hoping it will do the trick. This is probably most evident when ((SPOILER FOR THE MOVIE! DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE MOVIE)) Icabod finds the grave site of the horseman and out of the blue says he knows it is a gate between two worlds, and after one mere glance at the body realizes that the horseman wants his head back! For someone who is supposed to play a grizzled constable that doesn't believe in the supernatural this is a pretty brave asumption! Despite the beautifuly eerie atmosphere of the film it's a dead miss. Read the book, it will be more rewarding. Instead of sticking to symbolism the movie just bombards you with neat scenes of the horseman running people down. It left me with a very unsatisfying feeling.

Summary: Depp ,Now Has Range
Review: I was expecting the same old Ledgend of Sleepy Hollow, but was very surprised to see a diffrant view or story. The effects, There ,the acting, There, the plot, and so forth. Christopher Walkins not so much as a peep but to the point with charachter. Depp makes this film believable with his newly found dialect, maybe hes been around Madonna or something. A great movie to watch on DVD purchaced at Amazon.com come's through once again with great value.

Summary: Worth your money...
Review: Highly stylish and original thriller set in the imaginary town of Sleepy Hollow. The special effects are great (as with every Tim Burton film), and the cast is perfect. Johnny Depp may be the best young actor we have, and he plays the part of Icabod Crane to hilarious perfection. Even Christina Ricci gives a solid performance as his love interest. The action sequences featuring the headless horseman come fast and furious, and make this movie well worth your money.

Summary: Sleepy Shallow ? Not !
Review: This version of Sleepy Hollow was not intended to frighten as much as it was intended to gross out or entertain. It even merits a comedy award at times. Is this bad ? By no means. Depp's semi-comical performance as the easily grossed-out and chicken Ichabod Crane is a relief (from his stint on the weak Astronaut's Wife).Christina Ricci, who played Katrina, is just as skilled; She still needs to drop her Wednesday- Addams Family dead pan facial expressions, though.

The GC effects are to be admired. This is one decapitation film where the camera never leaves the victims or does a cut away like in older films when the horseman is decapitating them; the viewer sees a clean decapitation from start to finish. The location and setting are amazing and really put the viewer back in time.

For nostalgic film buffs, there's even an English actor by the name of Ian McDiarmid who has a small role in Hollow. Why is this actor so interesting?...He's the evil and villainous Senator/Emperor Palpatine from the StarWars films !

Summary: Burton films a "Painting"
Review: We don't have many American folktales (and this one was originally from Germany) so it's about time someone made a film of one our greatest literary treasures! Burton, eccentric and edgy, has literally filmed a painting. I loved this film. It's part horror film, part detective story, and all romance! Depp does a great job as always, Christina Ricci is simply beautiful, and the scenery is enough to make you want to step out of the audience and into the fantasyland full of groping trees, pumpkins, and New England mists. This is great fun and what good storytelling is all about. Don't miss it!

Summary: A nice nod to those classic Hammer films
Review: The Good: Great sets & Costumes. Fairly inventive plot (Ichabod isn't a schoolteacher, he's a NY cop) and respectable acting. The Great: A cameo from the great Christopher Lee. Chris Walken as the Horseman. Miranda Richardson's "watch your heads" line. The Bad: The sub-plot about young Icabod. Summery: A good attempt at resurrecting the films we all loved to watch on Saturday night.

Summary: GORY
Review: whoa, I thought this movie was going to be an average film. I was wrong this movie is an excellent film, it has very good acting by both Johnny Depp and Christina Riccha. A cool plot from an old story, but really weird twists are added to it to make the movie better. Oh yeah there is a lot of blood in this movie.

Summary: A Haunting Vision...
Review: Again Burton proves that his impressionistic, dark, and completely absorbing imagination is at its peak. This is not "Beetlejuice", it is something far superior.

In the small village-shanty town Sleepy Hollow, heads are being lopped off at an unnerving rate. Ichabod Crane (Depp) is sent to investigate after his peers tire of his protests against the current judicial system. Upon his arrival he is greeted by the entire caste and immediately falls under the bewitching spell of Sleepy Hollow. Digging deeper into the madness he began's to find a trail, and following this trail could lead to his grave.

Burton remains true to the legend in many aspects. His Ichabod is cowardly and overdramatic, a role Depp may have been born for. Ricci's surreal character is alluring and well thought out, enchanting the viewer with her beauty and mystery.

And although he has very little screen time, Walken steals the show. Burton's horseman is more terrifying alive than dead when Walken's serious overbite is present.

The magic, mayhem, and complete majesty of this haunting film will ensare viewers, and although the tongue-in-cheek moments are present, they are brief to allow the thrills complete control. Definitely a welcomed change for Hollywood's usual idea of horror and a much needed return to the classic traditions.

Summary: Better than I thought it would be...
Review: Not a bad effort! That's how I qualify this release of Sleepy Hollow. I must admit that while I'm not much of a Depp fan, his portrayal was amusing in the movie. Crane was as fearful as he was brave and the combination made this flick worth watching. My rating would actually be 3.5 stars but I don't think it'll make my DVD home library though. Though not a MUST SEE, it DOES qualify as strong rental material!
